Impressive that it is clear with no voltage…all available electrochromic film that I know of needs voltage to remain clear…a constant battery drain for a parked car, for example. I’ve been searching for film that is clear until voltage is applied…it is a shame it takes so long to achieve darkness though.
This video shows organic electrochromic technology. In a nutshell, it is a special polymer between 2 conductive glasses. When voltage is applied, the polymer is colored. Yes, we can speed up the electrochromic device, but not by much. When accelerated, the toning speed can be achieved up to 2 minutes. Electrochromic technology is not fast, this is its feature. We are currently working on speed. In our laboratory we have achieved speeds of 30-40 seconds at any temperature.

This is so cool! I know it's not immediate, but man just a few minutes to go from clear to pitch black. That's crazy!
You can make it immediate by adding something to discharge extra power from a transformer. I used a beeper
