  • The Cariñosa is a Philippine folk dance of Hispanic origin that originated on Panay Island. It depicts a flirtatious courtship dance between a man and woman through hiding and seeking movements. While rivaling the tinikling, it is considered a national dance of the Philippines. The dance was introduced by Spanish colonizers and reflects Spanish influences like the bolero or waltz. Typical costumes include Maria Clara gowns and barong tagalog with accessories like fans and handkerchiefs. Accompanying music often includes string instruments like the rondalla, bandurrias, and guitars.
