Have you heard of a product called "Un-do"? I used it to get photos out of my old magnetic albums and it worked like a charm. You would think the liquid would destroy the pictures, but it didn't! I've also used it to get stickers off the back of cardstock. It worked perfectly. For it to work, I had to get the paper good and wet. Un-do dried fast, and there was no watermark. Truly amazing!

I've used Un-do before on things. I've always hesitated to use it on photos though.

Thanks, Jane. It's always nice to hear of another product that works! I'll have to try it out.

@@gmagpa808 I couldn't hardly believe it either, but since a good number of the photos in my magnetic albums I took when I was in grade school, and were a bit blurry, I started with one of those, then went to another blurry one, etc. I was impressed! Have you heard of Archiver's? It was a chain of stores that sold scrapbooking stuff, they went out of business. But anyway, I was in my usual Archiver's store one day, and one of the clerks was liberally putting Un-do on a sheet of cardstock to get the tag off. I questioned it, he said he'd come and find me once he got the tag off. He got the tag off with no watermark or anything. I'm a believer. Oh, if you still have some Un-do left, it works great to get gummy adhesive off your scissors, tweezers, work area, etc. I just put some on a paper towel and start wiping.

And I thought I was the only one to scan and discard my "cut and paste" albums. Downsizing is important at my age and our children DO NOT want to even look through, much less decide about/keep the physical albums. Thanks for your helpful advice.

Even I don't want to keep all the physical albums! LOL! I, too, am working on downsizing while still preserving the family stories and photos in various ways-mostly digital.

creative memories also has a neat little "multi-purpose tool" that helps with this. it has a spatula on one end that is perfect for sliding under pictures/stickers to remove them!

I've used that, too! Most of the time it works, but sometimes I put lots (and lots) of adhesive sticker tabs or tape runner on the backs of my photos. In those cases, I'd need a bigger tool, like Linda's knife. Well, maybe...I am notorious for cutting myself with a knife. I may have to use a version where I try a bit of all three methods: The multi-purpose tool, the knife (carefully...) and dental floss. After that, I turn to another product called UnDu.

How nice to know that! I didn't realize until recently Creative Memories was still around, but they certainly are!

After scanning in my albums, I have also successfully used a product called "UnDu" for years and years. The liquid doesn't harm my photos at all. I know that makes many people nervous and I totally get it, but it's been at least 20 years that I have been doing this and my photos are still ok. I always used to put a multitude of sticky tabs on the backs of my photos so that they would not fall out of any albums for the next 125 years (!!) because my grandfather's album, dated back to 1905, had all sorts of photos falling out of it; I didn't want my albums to have that problem, so I overdid it, LOL. It would not be unusual that I put twelve sticky tabs on a photo, plus some tape runner, where you only put four sticky tabs. I will try the knife method, though, but my hands shake a lot so that's a bit scary. Maybe a thin plastic tool? However, if all other methods fail, when I can't get them unstuck any other way I pull out the UnDu. Maybe I'm the only one.

You're the second person who has recommended UnDo, so I'll have to check it out! Had to laugh about all the sticky tabs and taper runner! Oh, my!

I tried knives. I tried dental floss. Both time consuming. Then I got the bright idea to simply take the pages out (some had to be cut, and microwave them! 10 seconds. Put in 3 pages at a time. The photos peal right off!

Interesting! What kind of photo album was it? Was this one of the albums with little ribs of wax that bond to the photos or something else?

You make it look so easy! I have tried dental floss and it didn't work for me either.

It really is that easy with the knife! For some photos on the old sticky pages it takes more work but not that much.

What abt the gum behind the photo?

    • @FamilyHistoryHero
      @FamilyHistoryHero  11 місяців тому

If you're talking about the gum left on the album page, that's something I don't worry about because my goal is to remove all the photos from the photo album-especially when it's an older magnetic album that isn't photo-safe.

The knife didn't work for me. :(

Someone I know had trouble with the knife as well but had good success using his wife's 6" cake lifter. He removed severely stuck photos from seven albums without damage so you might give that a try.
