Steep Canyon Rangers are Asheville, North Carolina’s GRAMMY winners, perennial Billboard chart-toppers, and frequent collaborators of the renowned banjoist (and occasional comedian) Steve Martin.
Steep Canyon Rangers re-signed with Yep Roc Records in 2019. “It feels like coming home,” says Sharp of the partnership. “The Yep Roc family was among the first to welcome Steep Canyon Rangers when we were just pups. As we’ve grown, so have they. We’re incredibly excited for the future and all the music it holds.”
Steep Canyon Rangers released three albums in 2020, all on Yep Roc Records. The Grammy-Nominated North Carolina Songbook is a recording of their live 2019 performance at Merlefest in Wilkesboro, NC, in which they performed a selection of songs by North Carolina songwriters (Ola Belle Reed, Doc Watson, James Taylor, Ben E. King, and others). Be Still Moses - perhaps their most singular musical partnership to date - has the band teaming with Philadelphia soul legends Boyz II Men and their hometown Asheville Symphony to completely overhaul the Rangers’ original “Be Still Moses,” which was first recorded on their 2007 breakout album Lovin’ Pretty Women. The album includes re-imagined versions of Steep Canyon’s previously released original songs performed with an orchestra. Their most recent release of all original music, Arm In Arm came out in October.
Just saw them for the 3rd time…this time traveling to Wilmington, NC. from Georgia and these guys are phenomenal, to say the least. I’ve been looking for live shows to watch on UA-cam because that’s how much I love them, and as wonderful as I think Aaron Burdette is (a very accomplished musician in his own right), I sure do miss Woody Platt. Regardless though, I will continue to love these guys and see them live whenever possible. If you’ve never experienced the SCR live then PLEASE do yourselves a favor and go see them. Nicky Sanders is the GOAT. There is no one I'd rather watch fiddle! And everyone was in top form two nights ago in Irvine. Glad to have this concert on YT to ease withdrawal symptoms.
I hope this show will be available for purchase soon after tonight. It'll make for a worthy souvenir, plus a higher quality medium for ("us" 😁✌) audio nerds. Thanks for the show, SCR!

I got the chance to see SCR for the first time without knowing their music in 2019 at Fresh Grass in MA. One of the best concerts I’ve seen. They didn’t only steel the show they stole the whole weekend. I saw them again at fresh grass in 2021 and in Sellersville PA recently. This live stream is so great, just what I needed. Any chance of a CD/Vinyl release of some of your live music?
I've seen this band multiple times, Gettysburg,Ramshead in Annapolis MD,Easton MD,Graves Mountain they never fail to impress everyone
