In my humble, self-taught opinion this is the greatest piece of organ music not composed by Bach. Thanks for a fascinating performance which definitely sits alongside my other favourite recordings by Lisa Hummel and Thomas Ospital. All three interpretations are very different and it just goes to show how lucky we are to have such riches readily available.
There’s sadness for me listening to this. I used to play many years ago and stopped circa 1990. The fugue to this stunning work was one of last pieces I learned. Being able to play it on a great instrument is simply thrilling. I started to learn the prelude but never completed it before I stopped playing , never to return. To anyone who plays and is contemplating learning it, absolutely do it. It’s certainly a challenge but worth every second. Finally, this particular performance is predictably brilliant. I know how challenging that prelude is to learn so huge thanks Richard for this. It’s brought back so many happy memories. 🙏
I have a keyboard with two organ stops: loud and bigger😂! Our new Anglican church gathers in an old strip mall, we sing hymns, and I use the two stops. Then I listen to BS and am reminded of the beauty of these magnificent instruments. Thank you for blessing us.
Just stunning - and one of my all time favorites - especially bearing in mind the story behind this glorious dedication to a lost friend, magnificent musician and fallen hero.
I almost didn't hear this one out, but you enticed me in to a deeply meaningful musical experience. Your articulation and clarity led me right up to the music to hear things I'd missed before. The definitive performance of this work today (despite my opinion of the sample set).
Absolutely original interpretation; superb rhythmic control. Love how you used different registrations and manual contrasts to bring lines out you don't regularly hear from other players. Love your channel Richard! Bravo.
You love to play, we love to listen…and your many gifts are so very much appreciated. This Easter you have knocked it out of the park once again. THANK YOU for all of it!!
@@beautyinsound I was blessed to have seen Marie-Madeline Durufle perform this on the Ruffatti/Skinner at the Crystal (now Christ) Cathedral many years ago. It was memorable, but at the conclusion, she took the score and held her husband's work up to thunderous applause. For her, it was his music, not her performance, that was to be applauded.
Thank you Richard for the wonderful Easter week of music you have produced for us. Your playing has delighted and inspired me over the last couple of years, and I am delighted that 80,000 of us are now following your efforts! Congratulations to you and Caroline on the success of this BIS channel!
Thanks Don. It works both ways - the more feedback I receive and the higher the numbers go gives me much inspiration, which then leads inspiring others around the world. I love BIS! 😃
Such a wonderful channel you have created. Duruflé the perfect choice for a celebration - unconventional maybe, inspirational definitely. So many colours. And beautifully performed.
Lord Richard, please know that I am a dedicated follower of your interpretational skills in the art of true musicianship. More power to you and yours! Respectfully...
I really enjoy your videos. Thank you for sharing your talent. Duruflé was my "grandteacher," (like "grandfather," lol), my teacher's teacher. His music is very important to me. Bravo!
This is probably the best interpretation I've ever heard of this monumental piece. Your playing and registration choices are both wonderful. Bravo Richard!!!
Congratulations on this 80K goal! Your musical virtuosity never ceases to amaze & always w/such relaxed grace & dignity. This performance is MAGNIFICENT!
Congratulations on 80,000. And congratulations on adding this amazing piece to your repertoire, and your absolutely impeccable registration and performance of it. Thank you for sharing this journey with us. Onwards and upwards
Dear Richard, this is one of the best performance of this piece I've ever heard. It would be great to listen to other pieces by Dufurlé or by the belgian composer Flor Peeters (very similar, large symphonic style with modal structure)
Thank you for introducing me to this fascinating piece! The fugue = rainy season on the island. A question: I notice that you play from a Tablet, which appears to change pages automatically. Is it timed or does it recognize a certain note or combination of notes?

It is absolutely a wonderful piece
I'm glad you think so! I love it here :)

Thanks Margaret I definitely DO love to play, and I think of no where else I’d be rather playing than on BIS for the community of nearly 80,300! 😊
Bravo! This piece is a work of genius. Just beautiful.
Wonderful interpretation! Marie-Madeline Durufle would applaud you!
Thank you. This is definitely the sort of piece I should take for a ‘lesson’ who knows far more about this music that I do.

BIG congratulations on the recording as well as the 80.000. Huge milestone and very well deserved because of your impressive work ethic!
Thanks Philip - you’ll be there one day! It just takes a huge amount of grinding and perseverance, but it’s worth the effort 👍🏻
@@beautyinsound Thanks Richard although I don’t think I will reach 80.000. Hopefully 1000 soon!
Such a wonderful channel you have created. Duruflé the perfect choice for a celebration - unconventional maybe, inspirational definitely. So many colours. And beautifully performed.
It wasn’t an intentional choice, but my learning of it just happened to coincide with our 80k goal 👍🏻

Thanks very much, and thanks for being part of the BIS club!

@@beautyinsound ABSOLUTELY you are! AND God giveth the growth...100 fold! (paraphrase)
Congratulation to 80 000 subscribers. That is a huge number. Keep doing your great organ videos. I like them a lot.
Absolutely lovely performance. I appreciate your more restrained tempos too; still exciting but almost ‘reverent’.
What a magnificent interpretation of this grandiose work.
Beautiful! Congrats to you and Caroline for reaching 80k on BiS.
Congratulations! My favorite UA-cam channel.
Thank you for this superb performance. Congratulations on reaching 80K subscribers to BiS on YT!
Absolutely brilliant!

Terrific playing 😀😀
Excellent performance!
Congratulations! Wonderful recording!
BRAVO! BRAVISSIMO!
Congratulations on reaching 8- 000. Hope it will continue to rise. You put a lot of work into your recordings.
Fabulous playing, Richard - not an easy play by any means!
Cheers John. It’s been a bucket list piece for a long time. It’s fabulous! Do you play it?
@@beautyinsound I do, but not for a while! It was the piece that got me my extended 3rd year at the Abbey - I've never played it that well since!
Bravo! BRAVO!
That was wonderful! 💖💖
Onward to 100k!!!!!
Bring it on in 2023! Huge celebrations for that milestone I think! 🎉🎉🎉
Absolutely wonderful!!!!
Congratulations on hitting 80000.
Woohoooo!! 🎉
# 1 Favorite Organ Piece ? Ha. I bet that you say that to all of the consoles.
Dear Richard, this is one of the best performance of this piece I've ever heard. It would be great to listen to other pieces by Dufurlé or by the belgian composer Flor Peeters (very similar, large symphonic style with modal structure)
Thank you very much Stefano!
Congratulations Richard and Caroline on the 80k BiS YT subscribers. Happy Easter.
Huzzah! On to 100K :-)
11:34 such precision... i know the sextuplets are marked stacatto, ive played this, and have heard Durufle play this, but NEVER with such accuracy!
Thank you!
New shoes, or polished the old pair?
It’s amazing what a bit of polish can do!
One of the greatest organ works not written by Bach.
Congratulations on the milestone! So what will you play when you reach 100,000? :-)
Oh blimey! I don't know... we'll have a mega BIS celebration for that one! I hope that it'll be a 2023 goal :)
Thank you for introducing me to this fascinating piece! The fugue = rainy season on the island.
A question: I notice that you play from a Tablet, which appears to change pages automatically. Is it timed or does it recognize a certain note or combination of notes?
Hi Richard! How does your app turn pages?
Hi Jonathan! Here is a video Richard made about page turning using the app ForScore: ua-cam.com/video/3Acgt6Q6bCY/v-deo.html
