One of the main issues for new leaders especially is to learn to trust their team. They're so used to doing all the day-to-day tasks themselves, then when they land a leadership position, these are the tasks they should be delegating to others. Often they don't trust people can do the job as well as they can. They fear that it could be done poorly, reflecting badly on them as a leader. So many people end up doing everything themselves. I find that trusting your team is one of the key issues leaders need to address when starting with a new team.

Great video series Christine. I'm based in Malaysia and I conduct cross-cultural training and coaching here. I have used a couple of your videos in our sessions to generate conversation on a particular topic and having a presenter who looks like she could live next door is a great additional benefit. I would like just to add my 2 cents on the trust video though. Basically, this 3 aspect approach works well in the Anglo cultural context, but within most Asian cultures, asking people to own their mistakes is not an easy thing to do and may create more interpersonal issues. We find that Dr. Charles H. Green's trust equation works really well with our participants and their teams. His equation includes some similarities to the one you used i your video. However, it also includes "intimacy" or relationships basically. This is an absolute essential element to building trust in most East Asian cultures. Just thought I would throw that in there for viewers who work with global teams.

How do you encourage emotional wellness at work even when working remotely? Maybe you could do a video on this. Thanks

Hi Chrissy, great question! We did an episode on emotions at work, when levels of fear and anxiety were running especially high. Please let me know if this helps: ua-cam.com/video/Tqczp0By38U/v-deo.html -Christine

    Hey Christine!
    I love your videos!
    Trust is a great topic.
I highly suggest reading “Unleashed: The Unapologetic Leader's Guide to Empowering Everyone Around You” by Frances Frei and Anne Morris. They have a brilliant chapter on trust. Pure gold!
    Keep posting your videos!

Great video! Would love to see a "case study like" video illustrating some concrete examples of how some of the content described in the video can be applied.

Hi Christine. Great video. Are there any HBR tools or excercises that we can download to help intergenerational teams trust each other? Thanks!

I’m interested in videos that explore how to establish your credibility as a first-time manager. Any advice related to being a first-time manager and gaining the trust and support of your direct reports. Thank you!

Hi Christine, thank you for the content! How do you see that one can promote proximity and retention, with new people coming in while working remotely? (specially when one can't even keep track of who's left and who's new).

LOL! Greedy people with no sense of honor or justice here to tell me about trust. Some people, (Me) live or die based on whom they trust. Trust is like a delicate glass: easily broken, once broken, irreparable. You don't trust me? Great! Welcome to mutuality...

Only through litigation can trust be gained.
    So…
    Trust.
That I will sue the ever loving cat urine out of the company for placing me in a precarious position between the county on a charge or the prison yard for playing with me when I came to do a job and go.
    We grown folks.
    Right?
