Thank-you very much for this tip, I've been working on my Haas since the last 4 years and this is the first time that I've opened settings and modify something and the result is very impressive by doing this I'm gonna save a lot of time :) I had encountered some problem by using G99 and luckily I was safe from a horrible crash I will write this experience on G99 tip video .
Running a VF-6SS I have not noticed any real time savings above 3x retracts, as the spindle and Z axis servo don't have the acceleration necessary to really ramp out like, say a Brother does. I have left ours at 3x retract and been just fine. I can see how a smaller machine with a lighter head can utilize this better, though. Also our HFO training instructor has stated that it's possible to break taps by setting the retract higher than the spindle can function (IE a 9x retract when the tap is set to 1500 RPM).
I mostly program on old heidehnain controllers that barely have any special features, those haas videos gave me the idea to create those special settings in sub programs used as custom canned cycles, shame that the old vf3 that sit in the corner of my workplace doesn't run that much
Nice tip. To increase machining speed Thank youi have one suggestion for you. Sir You can Add this J setting in Your VPS Programming so user can set the retract values right from the VPS Page when they creating the Taping Cycles. Thank you 😊
Buen día, tengo una pregunta habrá algún setting, cuando barreno se puede disminuir la velocidad del rapido de la máquina, esto es con brocas muy largas?
Oscar - We can turn on Setting 10 LIMIT RAPID AT 50%. This will slow down all rapid moves. To slow down Rapids on just one drilling operation, we would have to program all of the moves with a G01, so we could control the feedrates with an F-Code. We always have the Feed and Spindle Override buttons, but I know that isn’t what you were asking about. I hope this helps. - Mark, Haas Tip-of-the-day
Ariel - Nope, the J value is optional. The machine will use the value in Setting 130, unless you use a J value on the tapping line, then it will use your J (temporarily) instead. Thanks for the comment. - Mark, Haas Tip-of-the-day
Antonio - We made a video on G68 Rotation. You can watch it at: ua-cam.com/video/5j8GJGqLztU/v-deo.html Thanks for the comment. - Mark, Haas Tip-of-the-day
+PetSize gaming Agreed, setting 198 is great! We have a map of available Setting 198 background colors on the Haas DIY site: diy.haascnc.com/reference-docs/background-color-reference-table. Now you can match your screen to your favorite team's colors! Enjoy.
my suggestion for turning on 133 wasn't a troll comment and meant sincerely. Because if for some reason you have to create a peck tapping operation you would need this on. If you decided you needed to tap your holes deeper you can run the same code and not screw up the threads. I would just leave it on all the time, it can't hurt.
+MrMetalShaper The sad part is Haas decided not to make a simple peck tapping macro by adding a Q and/or P value, and instead require long drawn-out code additions.

Haas support is absolutely the finest in the industry.

I tried this for a while but I found it kills your taps. 2x at the most.
Thanks for the real world feedback!
I haven got this setting in my ST30Y. Whats can i do?
Why 4 !? && 120 ? Are those precise numbers ? Or just an example
Fantastic!
Does this trick work on a Haas lathe with ridged tapping?
Depends on how many Ruffles (R) you feed the machine..)

You should turn on setting 133 :-)

+atomkinder67 I agree. it would be nice if they could create a peck tap code.
I don't understand why they are putting the programmer's load onto the machine operator. A faster retract rate is set during programming.
