Just bought my Neotech Trombone Grip and its a FANTASTIC piece! My newer horn has an awkward imbalance of weight and has a tendency to smash the mouthpiece into my face.... with this Neotech Trombone Grip, it gives me a lot more liberty to balance the horn differently without the tendency to smash into my face!

Wow that's awesome! I was thinking about getting it, too avoid getting tendinitis, when I get older. But I thought this would be too flimsy.... But not any more that thing is sturdy! thanks for making that vid!

The players I have worked with who have picked it up have really liked it; it’s amazingly adjustable and comfortable (to me anyway) once you find the right fit...

Great information as always, Keith. I tried one of these on my Edwards T350E, but I couldn't get it to fit properly. Maybe I was doing something wrong. Guess I'll have to try it again.

Hi Keith! I am curious about an accessory I think I remember you reviewing which was also a grip-assist. However, it wasn't a strap or a brace, but rather a plastic addition to the brace which made it wider and easier for students with small hands to reach their finger over the lead pipe. Do you remember which model this might have been? Thank you so much!

Thanks for the comment! I think what you are referring to is the Wise Grip (ua-cam.com/video/uwKOKV0eYP8/v-deo.html). This creates a more gentle curve on the bottom of the main slide brace (similar to the Williams-inspired curved brace seen in a number of modern designs) and reduces the length of grip needed. We have both the small and large models available on our website at shop.schmittmusic.com/wise-grip-trombone-hand-grip/; the listing includes a link to all models the Wise Grip fits. I hope this is helpful! If this isn't what you are thinking of or if I can help with anything else please feel free to reach out at tromboneshop@schmittmusic.com!

I have recently started playing again after 25 years. But, after about 5 minutes, my left hand goes numb. It's quiet depressing and sadly deters me from dedicating myself back to the instrument. Have any of you heard from users if this grip may help with this problem? It's gotten to the point where I'm considering other instruments, which I do not want to do. My old trombone plays just was well as it did when I first got it and I would love to rekindle that relationship.

Congrats for coming back to the trombone and sorry you are having issues! Many trombone players unfortunately have issues with their left hand grip, which has given rise to a variety of braces to help support the trombone. What kind of trombone are you playing? This will help give an idea of what braces may work best...

What I would recommend would be a hand strap, such as the Yamaha Hand Strap (shop.schmittmusic.com/yamaha-trombone-hand-grip/) or the Neotech strap (shop.schmittmusic.com/neotech-trombone-grip/), something designed to remove the stress of supporting the instrument from the fingers and help distribute the weight across the back of the hand. If a strap doesn’t help there are systems such as the Ergobone designed to completely remove the weight of the trombone from the left hand but these can be cumbersome and expensive; I would recommend trying a strap first to see if it helps. Let me know if we can be of any other assistance; thanks for watching!

When used on a bass trombone, there are two problems. The first is that the plastic assembly raises your hand above the slide assembly and makes it more difficult to reach the G trigger. Second, and more seriously, the lower portion of the neoprene strap only tucks through the plastic assembly and does not secure to itself with Velcro as does the upper adjustable portion of the strap. This allows the extra weight of the bass instrument to pull the lower portion of the strap to pull through the plastic causing the player to drop the instrument. This is a serious problem! Can anyone recommend a more stable but easy to use brace?

For bass trombone our first recommendation is the Bullet Brace (or Ax-Handle brace, same idea.). Installation is straightforward with no permanent modifications needed and many players find it comfortable and supportive. There is the possibility of damaging the main bell brace from clamping the brace on and some players feel that the brace deadens the vibration to an extent. Another popular option we see folks using is the Sheradon Get-A-Grip; no installation needed on the horn and very adjustable. Hope this helps!

It should! The Neotech system is quite versatile and I have found it to work well with most tenors and basses. The only big issue I run into is specific cases not having room to accommodate the handslide with the grip bolted on…
