How to backstitch with Singer 66 & 99 and similar machines without backstitch levers

- Learn to backstitch using vintage or antique sew machines with no reverse. In this short video I’m using my Singer 66 vintage sewing machine but the same technique can be used with Singer 99 as well as with most other vintage and antique sewing machines that do not have reverse function.

I have a reverse on my Singer 237, but I think your darning method can be faster than using reverse!
Yes it is because our hand is closer to the presser foot lifter during sewing.
Sow how do you actually do it? Are you lifting the presser foot and pulling the fabric forward to backstitch? Im new to vintage machines, just bought a 66K in terrible condition, so have to try and restore it first, but curious how to use it for when its working 😊
Yes, I lift the presser foot very slightly so I can pull the fabric towards me to do the backstitch, and presser foot down right after to sew forward.
Can you also show how to zigzag on an older straight stitch machine? Or how can you approximate a zigzag?
