I can't believe people paid like 500 bucks back in the 80's for a VCR player. That's insane, I guess it was only something the upper middle class and above could afford!
Well they recorded so you could record a show when you weren't home, etc, if they were just a player I don't think people would pay that much for them, my first VCR cost $700 but it had Hi-Fi sound (which cost $100 more back then).
Does ANYONE have a link or know of a video that’s like 1-3 hours or so of straight recorded tv shows/movie, complete with commercials and all? Just an entire tv programming time block from the 80’s or 90’s? I’d LOVE t o just put it on my tv and let it play for hours, TRULY experiencing a previous lifetime
Cannot believe people paid $600 for these back then. I wish I could time travel to 1984 and tell them that I found a VCR to DVD recorder for $6 at Value Village, but then I'll have to explain to them what a DVD is and convincing them to wait 13 more years until they come out in their time.
It recorded too, people bought them to record shows on TV when they weren't home so they could watch them later, so they weren't just players, people probably wouldn't have paid $700 if they just played tapes.
I COVETED one of these in '79! I have owned over twenty VCRs since 1989! I STILL have five (and LOTSA tapes)! I CANNOT say that I found "flaws" here! THESE WERE GREAT STEPS INTO THE FUTURE!
Do you have access to any Christmas commercials from the Norfolk/Hampton, Virginia area, 1979-1984? I was in a Christmas commercial for Coliseum Mall when I was in 2nd grade, and it ran for a few years. Sure would love to show my kids
I was told that these stuff were really cool, one good point was their weight, back in the days burglars needed to be very strong, like literally 'muscled man' to be able to lift these stuff, 2nd, by the time a burglar carries these thing and get away with it, the cops would already have been knocking the door.
How I so vividly remember that first commercial in this video (with the lady doing her aerobics workout) as a 13 year old back in 1983.
It was a FANTASTIC "workout"!
The good ole days of be kind rewind.. Kids will never know the struggle of rewinding.. Lol and the 2 channel knob tvs.. Lol
My grammy actually had one of those knob TVs and I always loved the design of them and I say this as a 04 kid
Born in 92...(well, by the time I was in preschool, they made VCRs that automatically records back)
I ALWAYS remember vcrs KINDLY!
Still have one hooked up to my TV
I STILL LOVE VHS! These ALWAYS worked!
We used to go to Cartwright TV! Was on Kingston Rd east of Warden. They repaired our VCR
When SERVICE was IMPORTANT!
Make sure your remote control cord is plugged in
5:00 Einstein sounds like he's from Calcutta.

$699 for a betamax, what a steal!
It gets even worse if you calculate for inflation. If that ad came out in 1980 you were paying the equivalent of $2100 in 2020 money for it.
In '78. this was THE SYMBOL of "arrived"!
When Video Recorders first came out in the early 1970s they cost $1500 which was about half a years salary for people making minimum wage back then.
...The Beta max was only 699$. Only.
a "real loss"!

The Betamax became obsolete pretty fast when VHS came out. Video stores were only renting VHS movies.
i got a toshiba b1 vcr for over 111,64 dollars it was not cheap bc of my countrys economy sucks and they give at as gambling but it still works
I love dvd and blueray disk players over vhs
The title should be: Several VCR adverts and two Betamax adverts, for not all of these adverts are for the VHS format.
VCR is a VCR, for VHS or Beta….
Uncle Junior?
699 bucks. For a video player. In the 80s. Wow.

I have to know... are you from buffalo ny? I only ask because of the one commercial on here that’s from buffalo. It’s the KML Betamax commercial
599 dollars 😕😕😕
449 what the hell
Betamax? Wow! That’s old school. I barely remember them other than an aunt having one
I sold two "Betamax" units at a JUNK STORE in '89!
Laserdisc was cheaper than magnetic cassettes.
And yet laserdisc still failed.
Damn they were expensive.
True, but QUALITY existed! THESE WORKED!
When japan was ruling electronics
I am NOT a "Japan fan", but these folks RULED in producing QUALITY electronic products!
What year were these?
