I can't read Hindi but i guessed it was about Mohammad Rafi. I saw an interview of a Western musician some years back. He said, "Mohammad Rafi had what no other singer in all the film industries across the globe didn't have". "He could sing film songs, ghazals, folk songs, devotional songs and classical songs extremely well. What set him apart was his voice modulation", he said.

But even Manna Dey Sahab had great respect for Rafi Sahab, and many times in his interviews, Manna ji had accepted that there were many songs which he felt he himself would not have been able to sing as well as Rafi Sahab and only Rafi Sahab could do justice to those songs
In fact Manna Dey was the most underrated singer of Bollywood. He got very few good compositions to render as compared to Mohd Rafi or Kishore Kumar. Even then he managed to place himself among the legends due to his sheer quality.

No sir, film politics was there from 1950. Lot of things were not like what we notice today but film and singing industry was never absolutely clean. Many a times it was the choice of either music director, producer or director and even hero and heroine. Saranga film though song was initially recorded in Rafi Sahab voice still available on record and you tube but Sardar Malik who only insisted on Mukesh was recorded by Mukesh and same song is in movie too. Even Shankar Jaykishan recorded the song in Yahudi for Dilip Kumar in the voice of Mukesh instead of Rafi Sahab though Dilip Kumar wanted it in the voice of Rafi Sahab. The music director is expected to have the best judgement of song based on tune, pitch and situation and sentiments. Others are not that exposed to music like composers but sometimes decision changes because of power of others. Singers have as such not much choice barring few. This is the reality. The decision of Ramlal was 100% correct and also supported by V. Shantaram. Mahendra Kapoor too could sing at very high pitch but there is a great difference between the melody of him and Rafi Sahab. Several other cases are not known to many where singers were replaced.
