  • The Minnesota Timberwolves have been historically good on defense, fueled by their league-best rim protection... but Zion Williamson had other ideas.

    Nobody can stop Zion if he actually cares and plays aggressively. He just needs to play the same way every game. Him and Ingram together have enough star power to make New Orleans a serious contender

      Zion has one good game and they're title contenders😆... I swear this is how Pels fans been talking for past 3 years...
      That same game the opposing team was missing it's best player and fouled out their next best player on questionable calls, while their best defensive player was also out half the game in foul trouble for questionable calls... Pels won't get 40 FT's and every call every game.

    Zion is an excellent player and an all time finisher. The annoying thing is that he'd be so much better if he actually took care of his body. All these clips in these vids are of an out of shape Zion. If he's this good now , imagine if he had more speed , cardio etc. I hope he figures it out man

    Sad that the conversation about Zion is pessimistic, but I think it's completely justified given his injury history at such a young age and the other red flags (weight, lack of effort). Onus is on him to prove everyone wrong and live up to his potential. Hoping that he does because when he's firing on all cylinders he's awesome to watch in a way that very few basketball players in history are.

    Not only does your breakdown explain strategy and talent, it also helps add context as to what should be considered a foul or not. That data is extremely valuable. There are AI visual foul calling and challenging replay models in the works already. How many games that led/lead to championships were or will be won or lost due to bad calls? How valuable are championships? How many millions or billions do bad calls and "no Calls" cost both players and teams? How much would it be worth to the league if every call was properly assessed?

      As a former Twitter user by the name of @KGsGOAT, my answer should be clear.
      All jokes aside, I think KG was a clearly superior defender in just about every category which gives him some separation, and on offense while he wasn’t the self-creating scorer that Giannis is, had all of the complementary skills mastered. The off-ball game, the shooting, the passing, all there, in addition to the fact that he could be a top 5 PPG guy on + efficiency.
      He’s an offensive all-star, who was a GOAT-type defender, and could fit in any collection of players, just a master of versatility.

    If this video lacks the context that the officials in this game decided that any contact on a driving defender was a foul then you're missing a huge chunk of context. 40 free throws. By the end of the night the defenders were just traffic cones because Zion and Ingram were initiating contact and getting a reliable whistle

    Better offensive player Zion or Giannis and why?

    • @HoopVenue
      @HoopVenue  6 місяців тому +5

      Last year I felt pretty comfortable with Zion, primarily because I do think he's a much more potent shot creator in the half court with his superior burst, handle, and center of gravity. I also think he's better off-ball, which allows him to coexist with other creators. With that said, Giannis' transition game, size and superior playmaking always made it an interesting conversation, and I think Zion's in worse shape now than he was last year, so right now I'd pick Giannis.

    • @HoopVenue
      @HoopVenue  6 місяців тому +5

      It’s because he’s probably the best in the NBA when it comes to “attacking space”
      You could see that in the example where Gobert drops back in the P&R, his combo of burst and power is most effective when given a few feet of room, and that’s why they try to close it early by picking him up with pressure or chasing him over the top.
      The reason it worked with LeBron imo comes down to 2 things -
      1. Zion just was not attacking, not nearly as aggressive as in this game
      2. LeBron is one of very few players who can match up with him physically, so he can play in a way that others can’t against him

    I feel thorn about Zion. On one hand i admire his finishing ability. On the other hand i hate how soft the rules are, on a lot of drives zion clearly initiates the contact and somehow gets free throws.
