Indeed, Antonio Lotti is a composer who, unfortunately, is not recognized and esteemed in a manner equated with the greatness of his work. He stands out particularly in respect to his sacred compositions (such as this beautiful Mass). He is one of the rare composers whose sacred work was not tainted by operistic influence. His are, therefore, works that are highly solemn and spiritualized, in which we perceive an unction not seen in the works of so many other composers. Bach, Handel and Zelenka had copies of Lotti's _Missa Sapientiae._ Beethoven had a copy of Bach's B-minor Mass. Bach had copies of works by Palestrina, Handel and Zelenka. Handel had copies of works by Telemann. I have copies of works by all these composers and many others.
You forgot to add that he is better than Bach and Mozart. They remind us of Lotti in their best moments. Now THAT's saying something (about Bach and Mozart).

This is a short mass ( " Missa Brevis " ). It is a abbreviated musical version in which, in the sequencia of the parts of the mass, the " Gloria " and the " Credo "' (because they are more extensive) are just prayed and not sung. @@MusicaMagnaMusica Rather, because it was intended for days without Gloria or Credo The Roman Liturgy does not provide for a Gloria or Credo without singing when Mass is sung. Or perhaps this recording simply does not contain these parts.
A complete Mass by Lotti, with Gloria and Credo, is named "Messa del primo tuono" (first tone Mass). It has the same Kyrie, Sanctus et Benedictus, and Agnus Dei. I have the whole score, if anyone is interested in.
I have a copy too, but I thought it was called Mass in D minor? Or as my copy says, "de la Missa Brevis en Re menor". Oh, I see that's how it's listed on here... we sing this in our church choir, all the time. And we sang the 8- part Lotti *Crucifixus* on Good Friday, this past year. That was a challenge!

It's beautiful, deep and spiritual, I'm still discovering this composer, thanks for sharing
Absolutely beautiful performance! I listened to it first and then realized it was you!
Thank you for posting this. Lotti is an underrated composer. They say he influenced Bach and Handel. Now that's saying something.

@@MusicaMagnaMusica Surely you mean _operatic_ not "operistic." But "perceive an unction"? Sounds unctious to me.

That was really great, thank you. Lotti does not get his due.

Nearly a year late... but could I have a look at it? If Bach considered him worthy of study, as a composer I would like to do the same.
I’m interested!
