Wow, I stumbled into this habit last season and couldn’t figure out what I was doing. I took video and knew it didn’t look right but not until today and seeing this video do I understand my problem. Thanks so much for this quality video. Appreciate how you’ve broken it down and provided enough explanation in each section.
Thanks Mike, have been wondering for awhile why I can swing my driver and wedges ok but not any irons or woods. I was aware of my flat swing but didn’t think it was causing so many issues, started working on these drills and it’s been a huge help.
Great video. Had a backswing that crossed the line and worked for years to shorten my backswing. Swing is now short and flat. Very difficult to change it now. My pro tries to get me to get my swing more up but struggling. Will try some of your recommendations. Thanks😊
I feel you spoke about some of my exact issues. I definitely have a flatter backswing. Would this be the culprit of not being able to take a consistent divot?...I find my days I'm taking a small to no divot at all. I hit my low irons pretty well, but struggle with thin shots with mid irons.
Hi Buck, yes sounds like your swing is flat and approaching the ball too much from the inside. ( for no divot and poor mid iron contact). Thanks for the comment, Mike
I’ve always had a flat backswing, but so did Hogan. Recently, I’ve been able to both steepen my swing and ruin my scores at the same time. Yes… that was silly experiment.
Correct impact and ball flight can occur from many different back swings. But as long as you strike it solid, and can repeat it, you are good to go! Thanks for watching and commenting!
My sons swing is flat with not much hand hinge. I didn’t realize this and now it is golf season. How fast can you retrain your swing? Surprisingly he can score in the low 70’s but now has the shanks here and there so it’s kind of a mess not knowing where the ball is going. He can play 7-8 even or under par and then the next 5 12 over … 😩
He can probably get his swing more upright doing some drills. It would not take a huge change, most likely, to get better contact and get rid of the shanks. Mike
Ok so I get really flat Its the bane of my life. But every video talks about the reason being the club is pulled inside on the way back. I DO NOT do this . I do have poor vertical shoulder mobility though which was interesting to hear you talk about. So why am I flat as a pancake and how do I fix it. I seem to have a forward head dip too on the way back Which I think makes me go flat because I have to counter balance 🤷🏻♂️
i got a really flat backswing but iv never hit the ball better so idk what to do , i know if i do it i wont go over the top and i dont top it and i get ok height
Wow, all of the sudden been struggling with middle of my bag just like you explained. Thank you for the lesson 🙏

Yes, Luke, shallow approach angle makes irons and fwy woods tough to hit! Mike
Thanks so much, focusing on the setting and initial takeaway of the club is imperative for my flat swing. Thanks again, grateful Aussie.
Thanks for watching and hope it helps your swing! Mike
Great Video!! 👍🏻😎
Thanks Reggie!

Shouldn’t you try to rotate your shoulders around your spine at a 90 degree angle in the backswing and downswing?

Been golfing for a month. And my biggest problem is too flat of a backswing/ too shallow.
Thanks for watching Jamie, hope your swing is cured soon! Mike

Also watch videos on Wall Drill golf. It might help with a flat back swing. Mike
