This was by far the best PCT thru-hike story on UA-cam. Each has its value and takeaways but this one, for me, is outstanding. Well done, great edits and stories, music, and day counter. My only regret was hat it was not longer or done a two-parts. Sections were compressed and for me - a bit of a loss of the experience. All in all. Well done. I'm going to seek out other video' from "Friendly". Subscribe.
Thanks Carl! This means a lot to us. We've done our best to make it a balanced movie, so not to much about us but more about the trail and what we see and what you can expect while hiking. The problem with making it in two or more parts is that a lot of people won't watch it till the end. Which is a shame. We try to make a full feature movie, and here in Europe it was shown in small theatres. Thanks again for your kind words!
Just finished 1 Hr. 20 minute hike on my treadmill with these guys. Really makes you appreciate the time and effort they put into filming these so those of us that will never do these amazing hikes can enjoy the beauty, the dedication and the accomplishment of those who have completed it. I’m just in awe of the beauty and Gods Creation. Hope you’ll take the time to enjoy this too.
Awesome! Never heard of anyone hiking the PCT in 1 hour and 20 minutes :-) We're glad you had a great time watching the video. Hopefully you can do the whole thing too at some point in your life. It's as you described; one of the most beautiful hikes in the US.
Fantastic! I've watched a bunch of PCT docs, and yours is by far my favorite! I love that you show the changing scenery each day, so we can really see what the trail is like in various locations. Then, when you do stop to highlight a certain place or event, it makes it more meaningful since it stands out from the daily grind.
Thanks! That means a lot to us :-) That is what we liked about the trail a lot. Not only the distance but the change in scenery. From desert animals and plants to High alpine mountains with marmots... It was one awesome experience and we already decided to do it again in 10 years from now!
Thank you, from a Washington State resident, for making such a wonderful gift for all of us "armchair thru-hikers." I watched every minute of your film and thoroughly enjoyed it. Awe-inspiring! Congratulations on your great achievment! Thank you for taking me with you!
The music and narration are every bit as WONDERFUL as the film work and editing. All around a wonderful film, one of the best thru hiking documentaries I've ever seen. it conveys the emotion of the trail so well. Thank you for sharing it with all of us.
What is such a pleasure with this video is the people are enjoying & appreciating the environment and attractions along the way. Every other video I watch on Pacific Trail is been there, done that type of approach. Well Done.
:-) thanks for noticing. In the long distance hiking community there are roughly 3 groups. The ones that party and hang out in towns a lot (you see them a lot on the Appalachian trail). The ones that are going for 30+ miles a day with ultra light packs. And the explorer types that look at flowers, animals, great scenery and swim in lakes a lot. We are in that last group. Glad that it showed. Life is aweseome. Especially on a trail like this.We enjoyed every minute of it.
That was such a wonderful film. I watched from beginning to end and experienced a full range of emotions. Awesome job! And thank you for sharing. -Rainman

One of the better PCT documentaries I have seen. LOTS of hiking and very little other stuff. Great music and editing. Thanks for taking us along. I think the weight loss did you good old man. ;P
Congrats with your achievement and awesome movie! Wachted from beginning to end and felt sorry it was over, wanted to watch more ;-) Thanks for sharing - Richard
You obviously put a lot of time into this and it shows. Saved to re-watch on my channel. Great job! - narration, music, editing, and camera work all wonderful
I'm in this video! Well, not *me,* exactly. But my name's listed among the hikers you met! :) Awesome video! It really took me back to that wonderful, wonderful trail.
@@FriendlyHiker Yes, my trail name was More Cowbell. In 2017 I hiked part of the CDT with several PCT alumni including Dundee and Treeman. The memories will last a lifetime,
@@kylekelly8187 Cool! Too bad we've never met on the trail. But we do know Dundee and Treeman very well! We've hiked with them on many occasions. In fact, Dundee left the southern monument together with us. Did you know we've written a book about our hike on the PCT? It's called: Six months with three pair of undies. And It became a best seller in Belgium and the Netherlands. It's now being professionally translated to Englisch and will be available this Christmas season (2020) worldwide via Amazon. Dundee is in it too and a whole lot of other PCT hikers you might now :-) Fun talking to you More Cowbell!
Thanks! Hope you will give it a try one day. If only a section of it. It's totally awesome. Or try with a smaller but other great track. Like the Colorado trail. We will be releasing our video of that trail in January via this link . ua-cam.com/video/IN1Y9InfIuw/v-deo.html So maybe that's a good start to get the feel of it. Have fun out there! And thanks again.
Congratulations on arriving in Canada. Definitely the best full length PCT video I have seen. You guys nailed it. The camera angles, the lighting, the edits, the narration and of course the music all made for a brilliant piece of work to highlight your adventure. 2020 will be my turn. Thank you.
Thanks for your kind words! The film was a long project in which we tried to capture the moments as they truly are. We hope your adventure in 2020 will be epic and awesome too!
Beautiful! ! I realy enjoyed this film, it makes me want to hike the PCT. It was a good thing when ya"ll encountered the bears at night just after Kennedy meadows that you spoke english, otherwise the bear might not have understood. Thank you for sharing!
Ok, finished watching it. Saw several names in the credits that I had the joy of meeting on the trail last year while heading SoBo on the JMT. Excellent camera work. Loved the whole film. Thanks for making it.
A very enjoyable 81 minutes, and 47 seconds of PCT compilation video. The music score was perfection, adding life, and action to all the scenery. I Loved this PCT Video!!!!!!!!!!! The Field Trip mom, and her four boys still have the best piece meal video of the PCT, it would be so nice if you could collaborate a complete movie for them by editing and putting to music all the filming they have done during their hike on the PCT in 2021. They also hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2020, as well as the Arizona Trail, along with the CDT in 2023, to complete their Triple Crown Achievement.
Thank you for letting us follow your steps on the PCT. awesome pictures, awesome weightloss ;) and congratulations on finishing the trail. I will try this one day. Greetings Jule (and my boyfriend says: great video and thank you for sharing)

Incredible video with great narration and still photography. It wraps the viewer in for the ride and puts them along side of you for many parts of your journey. Your editing is very good and the music fits well with the moment. You and your partner show detail that is beyond many TV shows today. Best of luck to you both.
We know you will! This is one awesome adventure that everybody should undertake at some point in their lives. It is a mind changer. Have fun out there and be safe!
This document was amazing. You did such a great job with sound and lighting. And it's awesome you made it all the way in spite of the fires. Every day I'm becoming more anxious to be on the trail - my journey starts at Mexican border on the first of May!
Way to go.CONGRATS !!! You put together a master piece of a PCT trail journey. I only hope I can do as good! I always get chills when someone films Snoqualmie Pass its my backyard for hiking. Thanks for sharing. Referdog
i sat and watched this whole video... in AWEEEE!!!! LOVED IT!!! congrats on finishing the PCT and you definitely inspired me to get out there and just do it!! small steps...but eventually i will get there!! Cheers from the Bay Area, CA!!!!
Thanks! Every year only 20% make it, and only about 5% have actually walked every inch of the trail. Meaning that they didn't skip the small bad parts and have walked every re-route / detour, walked around fires, done the road walks.... Sometimes it's not their fault because of fires etc. We were blessed that we are in the 5% that actually could walk all the way from Mexico to Canada, and not skip an inch. It was an amazing trail adventure indeed.
Great movie, great recordings, great experience. UA-cam makes it possible that I could watch your movie in Germany. Thanks for the great recording, many greetings from Germany.
Hi Mario. Glad you liked it :-) Although we move around the world quite a bit, we are pretty close. We are Dutch and live in Belgium. so we are neighbors ;-)
That was great to watch. I watched the full video without realizing how long it was. I got lost in it. Maybe one day I'll do the trail. Thank you very much for a great piece of art.
Wow. It really sucked you in :-) Great to hear. We loved making it. The trail is awesome, one of the best we have ever done. Hope you will do it one day!
Hallo Tresja.
Great video and congrats on a successful thru-hike! You guys are hilarious and inspirational! I'm setting out on my PCT thru-hike this spring, so this video really helped get me pumped! Happy trails!
Go for it! you wil have an amazing journey. One that you will never forget. Don't let people discourage you in the desert section (that's where most people quit once they realize that it really is a verrrrrry long hike). We hope you make it. Have fun out there!
Phenomenal video guys, was absorbed on your trek throughout the whole video. Great choice of music. Thanks for sharing your trek with us. What was your highlight of the trip?
Hi Scott. Glad you liked it so much, we worked on it for months :-) There were many highlights. From bear encounters to reaching the northern terminus statue. The constant changing of the terrain, from desert to high alpine. Changing in animal and plant species plus the changing of the seasons. The awesome views, great people we met... One of the highlights our life we think is the entire trail itself !
Thanks! We still can't believe it ourselves. We actually hiked all the way from Mexico to Canada. From the approximately 2000 that tried it that year, only 400 made it...
As I plan for my own hike in 2018, I have probably watched your entire video from start to finish about 6 times now. There is so much valuable information to be gleaned from just watching your video. I sincerely thank you for an amazing production.
Thanks! This means a lot to us :-) Great to hear that you enjoy the movie that much and that it helps you with your preparation. If you need additional help, just let us know via e-mail (yourhikingfriend@gmail.com). We can setup a skype meeting or something like that to help you with any questions you might have :-) Have fun with the prep and the hike. You will have an awesome experience!
By the way. Our hiking buddy Cloud Rider (Tim Potter) wrote an awesome book about how to prepare for the trail: www.amazon.com/Temporary-Change-Address-Pacific-Thru-Hike-ebook/dp/B01MSKHR5F/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1479270198&sr=1-1&keywords=a+temporary+change+of+address it's only 8 dollars and can be EXTREMELY helpful in your prep.
Thanks! We are glad you liked it. This august we will hike the Colorado Trail, 486 miles (782 km) from Denver to Durango. And we will film the whole trail too. So stay tuned. Somewhere in the autumn we will release a new Long Distance Thru-Hiking video!
Hi. What a fantastic achievement. I am amazed not only by the hike, but the editing and production of your movie. I will be walking in the Nijmegen Vierdaagse in July, and I want to make a video of my experience. I hope I can produce something worthwhile. Andrew Parker, Ballarat, Australia.
Really enjoyed your trip----from my couch! I never could make the whole trip but someday I plan on hiking the John Muir Trail section and that's about it. Congrats on making it all the way!
Thanks Jerry. Who knows, maybe you get the PCT virus too. We got it while doing the JMT :-) We met a couple of PCT hikers where the JMT and the PCT are on the same trail. near 10.000 islands lake (John Muir wilderness If we recall correctly). The Sierra Nevada Mountain range is still one of the highlights. You wiull ove the JMT! Good luck and have fun doing it!
Thanks :-) We completed the Colorado trail 2 weeks ago and are now editing that movie. Hopefully it will be finished at the end of the fall. We hope you will like that one too.
No problem at all Jeff. We really enjoyed the hike and wanted to give something back to the hiking community and people that are interested in it! Thanks. Glad you liked it!
Very nice. I always wanted to hike that trail. It was on the bucket list as a kid. I know it from about glacier peak north. I was a SAR guy in Snohomish county (Glacier Peak area) for almost 15 years. One of my favorite places on earth is the Pasayten Valley area right along side the crest trail on the last leg or two of the trip. Great video of your trip. You got me thinking I should put it back on the bucket list. Another trip I'd like to make is to take a certain boat I have in mind from around the Yellowstone River or so in Montana down to New Orleans, down to the Keys, around the tip to the Intercoastal, up that to New York or however far it goes, up the coast to the St. Lawrence and on up that, through all the Great Lakes, to the western shore of Lake Superior.
Hi Rick. We know the PCt is awesome, and if you have the change, just go for it. But you other plan with the boat sounds pretty good too. Why not combine them. Do the CDT instead of the PCT. That trail is parallel to the PCT. It also starts at the Mexican border, goes through Yellowstone and ends in Glacier NP in Washington. So just hop on you boat from there and continue your journey southwards :-) Sounds like a good plan to me! Have fun out there.

Great job!!!!!! Thank you!
Well done to you both! An incredible experience and I really enjoyed watching it especially to see you make you goal! Bravo!
Thank you!
Your film is the best and I loved the music. Magnificent scenery thank you for sharing !
J M Thanks! We worked for half a year continually on the movie. So tis means a lot to us ☺
So wonderful movie,thank you
The guy with a bong at 13:49. XD Caught in the act!
+neist Spotted him.
Great video! Thank you for sharing.
Wat 'n wonderlike ervaring. Baie dankie dat julle dit deel met ons almal. Groete
Hi Dick. We speak Dutch so we can read South African sentences. Thanks for the kind words!
Have fun out there!
what a best film of pct!
Badass! I've watched many hiking videos and this definitely stands among the best!!!
Thank you for these very kind words !!
Kudos on an excellent production. -- Quite first rate !
Wow, they did it. I'm so happy for them.😻
Thanks! We still can't believe it ourselves. We actually hiked all the way from Mexico to Canada. From the approximately 2000 that tried it that year, only 400 made it...
Well done! Thanks for sharing.
Respect Mate! Beautiful video;)
By the way. Our hiking buddy Cloud Rider (Tim Potter) wrote an awesome book about how to prepare for the trail:
www.amazon.com/Temporary-Change-Address-Pacific-Thru-Hike-ebook/dp/B01MSKHR5F/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1479270198&sr=1-1&keywords=a+temporary+change+of+address
it's only 8 dollars and can be EXTREMELY helpful in your prep.
Amazing film! And you guys? You are wonderful! I watchd whole film and sometimes I cried. I admire you and wish you all the best in your life :-)
+Nella Ulíková Responses like this makes us almost cry. Seriously. Thanks for the warm feelings :-)
amazing video production work! Congrats on an awesome job and a GREAT adventure!
Thanks! We are glad you liked it. This august we will hike the Colorado Trail, 486 miles (782 km) from Denver to Durango. And we will film the whole trail too. So stay tuned. Somewhere in the autumn we will release a new Long Distance Thru-Hiking video!
I will be watching stay safe!
What a epic journey they had. i'm impressed by the video's and eager to slowly star mine. Thanks for the sharing.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Glad I have found this
Really enjoyed your trip----from my couch!
Great images! Have a nice and safe trip!!!! keep on filming it is great
Thanks :-) We completed the Colorado trail 2 weeks ago and are now editing that movie. Hopefully it will be finished at the end of the fall. We hope you will like that one too.
I knew it would be an epic adventure when the Uncharted theme song comes on! XD Great video!
uncharted, skyrim, assasins c reed, modern warfare... they are in there:-)
Very much enjoyed this fresh perspective. Thank you for doing this for all of us.
