Maybe Caleb (as a char) likes Beauregard better. Also, beauregard is a monk, so is specialized in CQC bare-handed. Haste giving one more attack could be THAT MUCH useful i think
He was trying to ingratiate himself to her because she knew part of his backstory and he didn't want her to reveal it. That is part of the context in this moment.
