When she changes her "facial expressions" I assume you are talking about her mouth more than her face. When she changes the shape of her mouth opening it changes the pitch and sound of her growl. That is why I like to watch the live versions over official videos. You get to see what her face actually does while performing the song. Great reaction again ladies!!
Tatiana and Eugene said several times in interviews that they're fans of Spiritbox, i believe Tatiana even said that Courtney was an influence when it comes to vocals. And for the next reaction Jinjer / Suicide Silence quarantine collab - territorial pissings (nirvana cover)
This was awesome.. now that you guys have done Blessed Be and Rule of Nines, you gotta do Holy Roller. There's an amazing one-take that Courtney did, but I'd start with the official video, then check out the one-take. The video is super cool. Also, they just released a new version with the vocalist from Crystal Lake, which is amazing.
If you want some more ladies who do extreme vocals, I HIGHLY recommend these tracks: Mikaela - Bring Me Blood, Infected Rain - Black Gold, Vintersea - Illuminated, Divitius - Memento Mori, Ignea - Queen Dies, Blackthorn - The Spectral Evidence, Straight Line Stitch - Black Veil. Ok I'll stop there because I'll keep going if I don't lol.
Introtyl. Death metal. November's grief. Also death metal. And the new Nervosa track. Not a single dude in any of those bands. Introtyl the production is a bit annoying. Drums are too loud in the mix and drown out the guitars a bit, and the drums just sound too triggered. Damn good music if you listen through that. November's Grief had 2 albums/demos back in 92. Sounds raw as hell and damned good. Nervosa is slightly blackened thrashy stuff. Awfully cheesy video, good tune. A step way above their previous albums, although its a new line-up aside from the guitarist
Courtney’s been doing it for years. I remember like a decade ago putting on shows for her first band called Unicron. Even crazier, Courtney has a growth on one of her vocal chords that she had to pretty much relearn how to do it all. Rule of Nines is a reference to how first responders assess burn victims at the scene. Lots of info on that stuff available on the internet, but essentially each limb is valued as being “9% of the body.”
Spiritbox's best live videos on YT include The Beauty of Suffering, Belcarra, and The Mara Effect at Silverside Sound. Didn't see anyone say these, so there you go. Great reaction and comments!
thank you for naming this band... SLS is amazing seen them a few times and with very little amount of fans. They threw down to a room of 15 to 50 people like if there was 100 to 500. There were really cool people to chat with after the show . I have seen them with three different line ups , and all very humble . ALEXIS is an amazing singer.
There is a very good reason for the change in expression when she's doing the "harsh" vocals. By changing your mouth shape and tongue position as she's doing you can drastically effect the sound of the scream, so as an example when she tucks he chin in and tightens her mouth more it gives it a lower more grunty tone and the more you loosen your mouth/jaw the higher the tone gets sounding more like a scream.
I'm glad you two reacted to the one-take performance. I honestly think it's better than the studio version, plus you get Courtney's personality showing. Other reactions for Spiritbox could be Perennial, Bleach Bath, Belcarra, and Holy Roller. Maybe you could do another double feature video for Holy Roller since there is the original music video, as well as an animated music video with a collaboration from the vocalist from Crystal Lake, Ryo Kinoshita.
@@LEANNxARI I'd say a triple feature. Cause there is the original video, a one take vocals video and the collab with Ryo from Crystal Lake.In that order.
Courtney is pretty amazing :) In this kind of videos, what you call her different "faces", that's just her technique, same as Tatiana uses her own thecnique, this are rather good videos to see how they're able to do such incredible and amazing growls, by using all her face muscles and changing the shape of their mouths, amongst other things. You mentioned Iwrestleabearonce, Tatiana and Eugene have said that IWABO and Courtney was one of their influences for Jinjer music and style, wich is rather cool. And Courtney humor? Shes funny as hell, they let the humor side come out with IWABO alot, some of their videos are incredibly funny :)
If you scream properly it’s actually really easy to go transition back into clean vocals the screams loosen your throat muscles . She has very good control of her screams
Even though im subribed i barely get your guys videos across my screen. Glad to see you still doing this z :) the one singing the bear song..you remind me of my cousin 100%
There are more women like this out there like Maria Brink from In This Moment, Alissa White-Gluz from Arch Enemy, Elena Cataraga from Infected Rain, Lauren Hart from Once Human and lots more.
Time for another female artist! Check out Arch Enemy! If you get the chance you need to check out Alissa White-Gluz(present vocalist) and Angela Gossow(previous vocalist). Respect from The UK, 0121!🤘🏼

HI! EMT here. the rule of nines is a term that is used as a method in how to best treat burn victims. So in other words, a very metal title. for a very metal song.
That sounds like my hick accent, I watch alot of westerns, it's funny I'm a country dude, and I always hung with the gothic kids, they were surprised that I would be a metal head, I had ADHD I didn't fit in, they accepted me as their own.
In highschool that as, I hear gato in background as I'm commenting, most of them moved off and in bands and playing all over, I can play instruments but I cannot sing.
The rule of nines is a breakdown of the body of burn victims to estimate what percentage of the body has been burned. Generally used by first responders, ER, trauma centers, etc. for initial treatment.
ENTHEOS! Check out Chaney Crab ua-cam.com/video/-4mchpwfnXE/v-deo.html she does some SICK vocals. I love her high Witch vocals. She's so dope I've seen her live multiple times and she's really nice and chill.
Just to name a few female front bands you might wanna check out: Lacuna Coil, Arch Enemy, Otep, Nightwish, Epica, Halestorm. They can handle their certain style of screams. Check out the bands. Spiritbox is amazing and been following her through Iwrestlethebearonce.
Great and beauuuuutiful reaction; love your excitement. You really really need to listen to Melody Cristea of Liliac (Lil-EEE-ack). Start with the video called Nothing (original song). Looking forward to more reactions.
If you'd like to see Aurora again, check out her acoustic version of "A Different Kind of Human" from the Christines radiofestival (NRK P3). It's hauntingly beautiful and hopefully old enough that your UA-cam hasn't recommended it, haha.
Girls, to see some roots of female extreme vocals, you should react to e.g. ARCH ENEMY - NEMESIS (LIVE IN TOKYO!) from the 2008 Tyrants of the Rising Sun tour. This is the first singer of this band, Angela Gossow, the legit Godmother of Death Metal Growls and Screams. She is unbelievable and the concert is amazing, great perfection, great music, great vocals, great audience, pure power. They are THE most important band of Swedish Melodic Death Metal and their german singer Angela Gossow was/is iconic. There you can see the power of a woman who owns the stage like Tatiana, but more demonic. :-) After seeing your previous reactions to Spiritbox and Jinjer, I am 100% sure, that you will be mindblown with this one, too.
Been enjoying the react videos! I've seen you like the more culturally infused bands particularly so I'd like to throw Breed 77 in the ring. Their a Gibraltan band that is kind of...Flamenco Metal? they're somewhat old now but I'd love to see you react to the song La Ultima Hora!
Stunning performance, her talent just continues to grow. I would also highly recommend the recent uploads they have from the SiriusXM series, and there you can see the whole band performing at their best in a studio setting: ua-cam.com/video/D-tjkwZ32MA/v-deo.html
So if you really wanna delve deeper into the "women screaming/growling" -thingy, you should start with the (sort of) OGs, the lovely ladies who've fronted the band Arch Enemy. Check out Ravenous live in Tokyo in 2008 with Angela on vocals and then Nemesis live at Wacken 2016 for Alissa's vocals. Angela is the former vocalist (and current manager of the band) and Alissa is the current vocalist. After that there's all kinds of avenues to explore, for example Monochromatic Black.
Courtney uses false chord screaming and she admits she's not very efficient with it but she's very loud. Tatiana uses more low fry screaming which is typically a lot more efficient and so she doesn't need to exert as much, plus she's an amazingly efficient singer. There are other factors which determine which is more efficient for different singers, but these are the main two in comparing Courntey and Tatiana
If you want some other female screamers that you don't have to do videos for, check out Arch Enemy, The Agonist, Cerebral Bore, Otep, Walls of Jericho, and Crisis.
