one thing to take into account, Hong Kong desperately needed a new airport, so needed to ensure it was up and running within a certain timeframe. Brisbane didn't desperately need one, but had forecast with expected growth in the city's population and economic activity, flights will increase and therefore will be eventually needed. It is more of a future proofing project, so not something that needed to be built by a deadline

Comparing Hong Kong and Brisbane in this regard is like comparing Sydney and Wagga Wagga.

At least you have built it.....Over here they have been talking about a 3rd runway for Heathrow for over 35 years and as I write not a brick or bit of concrete has been laid. But the lawyers have now made over £200,000,000 from the taxpayer in 'fees' etc at the never ending list of public enquìries that surface every 6-8 years or so.

It took so long coz they filled in soo many creeks and mangroves that are home to fish and crabs around here. Both runways destroyed the best breeding ground for all of the western Bay. There used to be a place called crib island.
There are so many activists out there, where we're they when our government destroyed beautiful waterways?

Hasn’t Sydney been waiting for Badgerys Creek for 40-50 years?

I have to say as a pommy bastard. You ozzy's might take your time, but at least it gets done properly. Also you make sure everything is in the interest of the Australian people. We just sell everything off to all and sundry for them to take the profit.

I don't know what gave you that idea, but for decades now we've been in that same boat, public assets being sold off to benefit the already super rich, at the crippling expense of ordinary people. The current federal government is a prime example, massive corruption all the way through.

It took Dubai 5 years to build a new airport. It took Athens 5 years to build a great new airport with parallel runways, a rail system direct to the terminal plus a new motorway via mountains to the airport, yet it took Brisbane 8 years to build only a runway!?! Even Sydney’s new western Airport will take how long and with only 1 runway at first???

Bro it took Colombia’s el Dorado airport 10 years to build a new taxiway 🤣

It took 8 years because they had a limited budget per year to spend on it and needed to semi fund it via revenue.

Nar cupla daze is strine for another six months. Strine is the English language as spoken by Australians. Every time they were asked how much longer it would take, the Australian builders would reply, nar cupla daze mate.

It took so long because Wagner's didn't build it.

It’s an Australian infrastructure project. Of course it took twice as long and cost 3 times as much. The amount of red tape and beaurcracy in this country is disgusting. It’s crippling and prohibitive to the country’s development

Good video.- but mate. Don't compare countries that employ what is virtually slave labor in rubbish conditions (Dubai) and Hong Kong. It's like when people compare building in a dictatorship where labor can be ordered to do something with the West.

Yes, the loss of wet land is not to be trifled over though, as the world does. Wet lands are extremely important ecology systems!!!
What are you going to do when the sea rises enough to eventually flood it?

@ Snow Hare, Since when has environmental been a priority over profit by contractors or bureaucrats? As far as “what are you going to do when the sea rise”, the old Aussie adage, “I’m alright Jack” comes to mind.

The chopping down of the forrest for Springfield- appalling. There's plenty of long cleared land near by, but no, "not's" let buy the cleared, but hack more into the ecosystem.
Lets lose the city's fields that grew local produce. Rich old volcanic soil.
