- Hi Guys, today I’m reviewing the Hamilton Beach 2-Way FlexBrew Coffee Maker. LINK to Hamilton Beach FlexBrew: amzn.to/2heuCj8 This is a new model, I did review the old model and if you want to see that video, here is the LINK:
• Hamilton Beach 2 Way F... This unit is 10.5 inches deep, 12 inches wide and 13.5 inches tall so this coffee maker will take up some counter space. Cord is 24 inches long. With this unit, you can make a carafe of coffee, a single serve using your own ground coffee or a k-cup. The carafe brews on this side and the single serve on this side. You can only use one side at a time. Each side has it’s own water reservoir. Use only cold water in the reservoir. Both reservoirs have a max fill line so don’t fill above that. The carafe side can make up to 12 cups of coffee. With the single side, you can brew 10 ounces with a k-cup or 14 ounces with your own ground coffee. This is the removable cup that you can use to store a k-cup or the single brew basket, the cover and drip tray. If you leave this in place, you can use a cup up to 5 inches tall when brewing. If you remove this, the maximum height is 8 inches. To use the single serve side, pour the amount of water you want to brew in this reservoir. It’s not like a Keurig, where you pour water in the reservoir and you brew a cup whenever you want. The Keurig will pull the set amount of water out of the reservoir and the rest of the water stays there for the next use. With this unit, you pour in only the amount of water you want in your cup. So if you’re using your own ground coffee, put up to 14 ounces in the reservoir, the coffee in this single serve basket, lift the lid latch, put the black funnel in and put the basket in. Put your cup here and press the single serve button and brew now to start brewing. It’ll brew all the water in the reservoir.
If you’re using k cups, pour a maximum of 10 ounces into the reservoir. Lift the lid latch and put the black funnel in. Place the gray single serve pack holder in the opening. Put your k cup pack in, don’t remove the foil. Close the lid and you’ll hear a snap which means the pack has been pierced with this needle. Press single serve and brew. With either the single serve or carafe side, you can choose the strength of your coffee, the default setting is regular strength, if you press brew strength, you’ll see a bold option. The bold option takes longer to brew so you should get a stronger cup of coffee.
The Carafe is glass with a flip up lid which is convenient. The handle feels fine and the carafe itself seems sturdy. If you pour 10 cups of water in the reservoir, it’ll brew all 10 cups. Opening for the reservoir is a good size, plenty of space to pour water in. I’ll brew 6 cups of coffee. Pour 6 cups of water in. Each cup in the unit is 5.5 ounces like most standard coffee makers. Pause feature, pull out pot when you need it. Time to brew 6 cups - 6 minutes 32 seconds. There is no dripping from the carafe as you pour.
It’s a good, hot, full bodied cup of coffee. I used 6 grams of coffee per cup and it was perfect. I really don’t think you need more than that with this unit.
You can program the carafe side only, to brew at a later time. The warming plate doesn’t get hot when using the single serve or k-cup side.
All removable parts are top rack dishwasher safe. There are instructions in the manual to clean a clogged needle.
This unit did a good job on the carafe and single serve side. It’s not the fastest machine but it makes a good tasting cup of coffee. If you want to try this unit, out please click on the link above. Just got a FlexBrew. Your instructional review is one of the best on UA-cam. For example, you are behind the machine. You point to each and every feature, state what the functions are and how to use the machine step-by-step. Also, there's no stupid little side jokes and no annoying background music. I’m on my second one of these. The first one was HEAVILY used for about 4.5 years. We didn’t have any problems at all over those years. These machines are just plain excellent. A word of advice would be , clean it regularly. Alas, I did not, hence the new machine. Also, I use about 12oz of water with k ups and the coffee is fine especially if it’s brewed in the BOLD setting..

Thanks for the review Anita. It's an interesting idea for a machine, but I do think it can be improved by it having a shared reservoir, and the ability to choose how many cups you want on the carafe side, rather than measuring water every time.

Old unit had shared reservoir. I now have this model and I don't see a big difference.
Thank you for the review, had to come back to comment. I have been using this machine for 2 weeks now. Twice a day every day. It's working well. I am buying #1 coffee filters to try in the single serve basket, hopefully it will make clean easier. Coming from a Keurig I wish the single serve side held water for multiple servings but I can live with it because having the carafe option is exactly what was missing with the my Keurig.

I have the older version. Glad that HB fixed the design flaw of heating the carafe plate when using the single serve side.

We have had the model almost a year, it has started leaking from the main reservoir. Out of 12 cups of water we got six, the rest of the water ran out on the counter. We cleaned it and retried to see if there was a blockage. The leak continues after being cleaned. This seems to be prevalent with the majority of home coffee makers today regardless of the brand. We have had several and they only last about a year before they go bad.

Nice unit... for about three months. The single side stopped - it boils but will no longer pump the water out. One month after this, the water tank on the carafe side started leaking.

Very well explained. 166 F temperature is less for strong brew. Need minimum 185 F.
Not being biased, I mean I liked it alot, brewed full pot very fast, tastes great, k cups single serve side was decent but the thing broke after 68 days. It started leaking from the bottom, and didnt drip from top at all. Returned to Target. On the hunt for another.

Bought one of these and about a year later, it's leaking water all over my counter. Good luck trying to take it apart to repair it. Nice idea, but their engineers need to go back to the drawing board and design a longer lasting product. Nice review though!

Truth be told, this gives you more versatility on the single side than a Keurig. First, you can actually use up to 16 oz water, so good for making large cup of tea, double cocoa, etc. Also, if you want to use 11, 12.5 or 12 ounces for your kpod, you can do that. Keurigs may have bigger reservoirs but they only allow you to choose from preset ounce options, you can't tweek to your preferences. Really liked your review, but wish you'd have shown how to replace the single ground (brown) brew basket back into the cup rest/storage container. I have both the model you are showing as well as the single (non-combo) Flex Brew. In both models, it is extremely difficult to get the lid of the removable cup rest/storage container back on securely once you've replaced the brown hinged basket into the storage container. It is so bad that it's not safe to place a styrofoam or paper cup on the base for fear it will be tilted or forced off the base before enough coffee lands in the cup to weigh it down. Try it a few times... You'll see what I mean. On both units, in order to solve the problem, I had to remove the O-ring from the brown basket so its lid would close down flush level onto the basket all the way. While the container lid still had less than a perfectly tight close, it was at least firm enough to keep a disposable cup from being forced off the cup base.

Enjoyed watching the flexbrew coffee maker. I like using the k-cup single serve and the k-cup adaptor but when brewing coffee.I had a problem with the k-cup lid not closing all the way but with a little umf and seeing this video has corrected that problem.

Great coffee maker cheaply made it can leak both side the inter hoses are not clamped it’s just pushed on the nipple part inside with NO clamps on both hoses they leak some makers start leaking after 90 days if they put clamps on it would a real awesome makers but of the price would go up had to cut the back off to fix ours we had ours 18 months & it start leaking!!!

I purchased a used Hamilton beach flexbrew .having a hard time ordering the silver metal plate. Cause that's all that missing. Cleaned the coffee machine very well with vinegar.

I had the keurig essentials and so glad I took it back and got this model
bought one. It had a high pitch electric buzz sound. Returned it for an exchange. A different one had the same high pitch electric buzz. It sounded faulty. It should not buzz like that. I really liked it... To bad for that buzzing sound. I could hear it buzzing from my living room.

Thank You I bought mine at an estate sale and thought I got the Best deal ever!! But with no Manuel I thought The One cup side didn't work even though the Man who sold it to me gave me some Tim Hortons K cups!! I knew I was doing something wrong so I packed it up!! And was so sad!! Bcuz I like a pot of coffee My Son love's the K cups! Thank God I found You!! I believe I made My Pot of coffee and then tried making My Son his k cup?? Please help someone??
