- Hey guys! Today is another episode from my series Thrift Store Makeovers, where I take a used, worn out item (OR sometimes from yard sales or off of ebay) clean it up, fix it up and decorate it. I love hunting through thrift stores to find old, rejected items and then decorating them and putting my own style on them to turn them into new pieces of art. I've definitely missed these thrift flips and I want to do more thrifting soon!
In this episode I am going to be painting on and customizing a ceramic ice cream cone vase cup thing? I had so much fun with this because I decided to incorporate some daiso clay into the project as well as painting and decorating it. Hope you like it!

Hey! my name is Moriah (pronounced muh-rye-yuh 😂 ) and this is my channel....obviously. I'm 26 and like doing anything creative...and being snarky.....just a lil. I make a lot of decorating, painting and general art videos here. I'm obsessed with editing and adding lil bits to my videos, so if that's not your thing....oof you may hate this haha. I paint on squishies, thrift store finds, and other random things I pick up. I also love to draw, but don't expect anything too skilled, I'm not the best at that haha. You will also find occasional crafting/testing crafting kits on my channel which are always a hot mess. And even some baking (REALLY bad at that, but it's fun to try LOL).

Tip time for Moriah!:
When using clay to make a large item it’s best to sculpt it out with tin foil first then sculpt clay around it. This results in less clay being used, the result being lighter and a decrease in drying time!

Also!! The more you work with clay, you may want to look into washes/dry brushes. You mentioned that you regretted doing the individual shading for the divots in the cone, and a wash could take care of that in minutes. It'll really show off the depth of a 3D sculpture

CLAY ADVICE (that I’m sure someone has already said, since I’m 5 mos late. 🤣)
To make the object lighter, next time fill the center with balled up foil and shape the clay around it. 👍🏼

Hey Moriah! I have a tip for you since you think the ball of clay is too heavy: you can roll a sheet of aluminum foil into a ball, and then cover the foil ball with clay. That way the clay wont be so heavy and you wont have to use so much clay. Love your videos Moriah!

She should make a yearbook full of her characters, the seniors could be the oldest squishies, etc etc. You should also include the awards section with class clown, hottest couple, etc etc. Just suggesting, don't feel pressured, we'll be happy with whatever video you make for us :)

Small tip for sculpting heavy pieces like that. You can wait until the outside is dry enough for you to scoop out the middle of the clay, to make it hollow and lighter weight.

Hey Moriah, just so you know if you want to put something in the middle of clay you usually use tin foil and scrunch it up then cover it in clay. Just make sure you don't make the clay to thin or it will crack when it dries. Love your videos and that monkey is ADORABLE.

In future, you could use tinfoil to build up bulk for large clay pieces which will help make things lighter :)

Wow..I felt like a teacher when Moriah was creating the monkey ice cream, because I use clay at school 🙄 But that clay takes about 1 week to dry and then 1 week in the oven, but that’s not the point! Moriah is my favorite UA-camr, and she should make her characters into jelwery like braclets, Earrings or necklaces!

It's a vase for a special kind of floral arrangement made with carnations that mimics ice cream that was popular like a decade ago. I was a florist and I made so many of those babies.

Tin foil works well for a clay filler. It works well with cooking clay. Cause it let's the clay cook evenly and makes it more light weight. Although I'm not sure on air-dry clay might be worth a try

You mentioned wanting to use something lightweight for the middle of the clay- tin foil is great for that! Even balled up its lightweight and it helps reduce how much clay you use too :-)
THIS! I see so many people just use huge amounts of clay instead of using a filler like tin foil D;
@Kat Jordan what do you mean? if its not sticking, you might want to try styrofoam for air dry clay (or liquid clay on foil for polymer clay)! only do a thin layer of clay and let it cure before adding bulk!

3:27 Somebody has probably already said this but you can use foil as a filler and put the clay over top so it's much lighter and you dont waste as much :)

This is what I do, but I feel like for beginners it may be hard to smooth the clay over and not get the foil texture on it

I have a set of these cups, which are glass or ceramic I think, luckily it already came in beige or light tan. Cost a pretty penny, but for being vintage full set and adorable icecream related it was worth it!
