This comment is for all of us who knew we would be bawling by the end of this and still watched it till the end 🫡🤟🫶🤣
Yup... It hurts so freakin bad
💔 Get out of my emotional rollercoaster of a mind girl! 😅
I love and hate this movie but, you are absolutely right. And not Ms. Toni Braxt coming to mind, smh... it's too much!
“I take it back, just end.” 😂
Though I watched this movie many times, his reaction had me choked up the whole time.
And now you have officially been Notebooked😉
These pure romance movies are so rare, I can’t believe this is already 20 years old.
Ugh this movie makes me cry everytime!
As per your question at the beginning..my favorite juices are watermelon with lime, orange, ginger and carrot, and a green juice (cucumber, spinach, kale, apples and ginger 😊
Seeing this as a teen I loved it, it was a fairy tale really. But as an adult I realized they both were manipulative lol.
Re: Fathers and daughters.... it is a tough line to walk, finding that balance between being the adult who usually knows better, and still letting them make some decisions on their own. Kids will make mistakes, it's up to you as the parent to determine which mistakes you let them make (and learn from) and which mistakes you can actually protect them from. If you go too strict you drive them away, but if you aren't strict enough, they can get hurt. Good luck lol.
I think that Ryan Gosling is one of the most underrated actors of our time. He has done a few movies where he can lay down the raw bare emotional baggage that every relationship goes through. I absolutely love this movie. I cry every time I see it. I honestly believe it's harder nowadays to come by this type of LOVE. Back in those days there wasn't a definition of toxic love. People from that generation may have been the last generation to actually stay married 60 to 70 years plus and it wasn't an easy road I tell ya. I love seeing elderly couples that you can tell have been married forever to one another. If you haven't seen The Place Beyond the Pines yet I highly recommend it. That is also the movie where he met Eva Mendes. They have been together since and have two daughters. Blue Valentine is also great. He has done some phenomenal work and he is so so dreamy. He is the only reason I went to see The Barbie movie. He was the perfect Ken even though before the movie came out some people criticized him for being picked to play the part. I think he is the most charming guy even when he is not acting. His interviews are hilarious. Super talented guy he does it all....sings, dances and acts ❤ Btw I really enjoyed your heart felt reaction to this movie and your final thoughts on it. One more thing another man who had game was Kobe Bryant not only on the court but off as well. He bought Vanessa Bryant the iconic Blue Dress from the movie.
My number 1 is another Rachel McAdams movie, About Time! It’s a beautiful film! 🧡
LOVE this movie so much! They're young and filled with passion, but, from opposite worlds and back then, in the south! Crazy and impossible relationship. Beautiful. THANK YOU FOR THIS REACTION❤
I absolutely believe in love at first sight.
I met my husband when I was 17 I was babysitting and he was next door working on his car in the driveway. I went over and introduced myself he was shy thankfully I wasn't. I felt so drawn to him in a way that I have never felt before. Later that night I went to a party he was there and we talked all night. We are a perfect match and 20 years later still so in love.
That’s beyond beautiful ♥️ God bless you both!
It wasn't just wet, it was cold. They filmed from Oct - Mar. They filmed the part with the beard first and then Ryan lost 2 lbs over a Christmas break to look younger.
This movie always made me cry, but now that I work in a nursing home?! Ohhhhh Lord I’m a mess 😭
0:15 I love the ‘H-E-B Blendables’ frozen fruit smoothies, add my favorite juice (mango pineapple) and it’s soooo delish! [Heb is a major grocery chain in Texas. Heb is also better equipped than FEMA - they dispatche aid immediately during natural disasters. Their slogan is true: “no store does more than my heb”]. I do not work for heb and not related to an employee, I just like their ethos. PLUS their “house” products are usually as good if not better than national brands.
I'm sorry you went thru this and for your loss. It must be hard to watch this. ❤
Haven’t been this early in a long while, looking forward to the vid man.
My favorite movie of all time
ME BEFORE YOU !! GREAT ROMANCE TO WATCH WOULD ALSO LIKE TO HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE GREAT GATSBY WITH MR. DICAPRIO LOL
Great reaction brotha. Great movie! 10/10 ❤🙏
Can’t go wrong with a classic strawberry banana😋 BUT when I make my own I’ll put strawberries, bananas, blueberries, and spinach in there, so good and so simple🤩
It’s the perfect ending.
Its them when they got old
My gram was my favorite person also. It’s an awful time to be in
I got around to watching this movie in 2014 and it's just an ok movie and people really hyped it up.
Alzhiemers is like someone walking pass their own house and forgetting they just did that.
Dementia is standing in your street infront of your house. Not realkt aware that u are in the right street and house.
Do not put these people in a later time. This is the 1940s. They did not even like each other during filming and he wanted her replaced. They were together for a couple of years later. It is a very small town full of farmers who go to bed early.
see teen beach movie!!!!!
Were you cold when you found this or what
Not only did they go together, but the final shot is a string of birds flying away... "If you're a bird, I'm a bird."
I'm not crying, you're crying. 😭
You know what makes this movie even sadder now - the actress that played older Allie, actually got diagnosed with dementia in real life.
No, don't do this to me 😭😭😭
UGH NO WAY fuck I dont need another reason to feel sad while watching this movie lmao
I know, it breaks my heart 😭😭😭😭
Sadly she passed away...
😭
The crazy thing is Rachel McAdams filmed this and Mean Girls in the same year if I remember correctly
It took me 4 times to watch this movie to realize he turned their home into a nursing home. 😢❤🎉
WHAT!? 😮
No this is a different place
Rachel McAdams filmed mean girls and he notebook in the same year. 10:41
Sending you hugs….losing your Gram is so rough ❤️🩹
If this were a real relationship, it wouldn't have been very healthy, but, in a movie, the romance worked. You get two love stories in this movie, the young Allie and Noah and then the elderly Allie and Noah, and both love stories pull at the heartstrings. It's a great romantic movie, and the ending is bittersweet because they do both die but together as they wanted and with Allie remembering their life and their love. It always makes me cry.
no teenage relationship is healthy...but that's the point. They got to grow up and discover each other all over again
36:57 omfg the way I HOWLED at this "Lord Jesus! ...What do you want??" 🤣😂
SAME!!!
Alzheimer's is dementia. There are several diseases that affect memory. The difference is where and how they affect the brain. It can be caused by head trauma but oftentimes it's genetics. Some examples of dementia is: alzheimer's, vascular dementia, lewy body dementia, frontotemporal dementia.
It's possible to have more than one form. That often results in a more aggressive and rapid progression of the illness. My father has got both vascular and lewy body dementia. ❤
Im gonna need a Nicholas Sparks movie Marathon with you first time watching! I believe 5 or 6 books of his are movie adaptations ❤❤
I’m so sorry for your loss. Another great Rachel McAdams movie is Red Eye. If you haven’t seen it, it’s worth a watch.
I can never watch this movie without me losing my emotions at the end 😫😫😫😫😫
So I’m fairly new to the channel and I love how you talk about your girls. You sound like such a great father. Always willing to improve, that’s very important
I've watched this movie and bawled my eyes out countless times. I've NEVER noticed Ally saying "do you believe our love could take us away together?". THEY LITERALLY DECIDED TO DIE TOGETHER 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I'm over here crying... R.I.P. Gene Rowlands 8/14/24❤🕊🕊🕊
me starting the video like "i womt cry ive cried hundreds of times to this movie and to reactions to this movie, i wont cry this time"
well guess whos crying again
This is considered one of the most romantic movies of all time, but it's also been criticised by some people who think it portrays a toxic and borderline abusive relationship. Like when Noah literally threatens to kill himself if Allie doesn't go out with him and Allie physically abusing Noah. Or the fact that they fought ALL THE TIME. And of course Allie cheating on her fiancé who is actually a very nice guy. I agree that it's problematic that it's portrayed as romantic but I still love the movie. Also, older Allie and Noah's love is so beautiful and pure, yet it's sad at the same time.
This is Nicholas Sparks' first published novel but the third film adaptation. Other movies based on his novels are Message in a Bottle (1999) starring Kevin Costner, Robin Wright & Paul Newman, A Walk to Remember (2002) starring Mandy Moore, Shane West, Peter Coyote & Daryl Hannah, Nights in Rodante (2010) starring Richard Gere and Diane Lane, Dear John (2008) starring Amanda Seyfried and Channing Tatum, The Last Song (2010) starring Miley Cyrus, Liam Hemsworth & Greg Kinnear, The Lucky One (2012) starring Zac Efron & Taylor Schilling, Safe Haven (2013) starring Josh Duhamel & Julianne Hough, The Best of Me (2014) starring Michelle Monaghan & James Marsden (who plays Lon in this one), The Longest Ride (2015) starring Britt Robertson & Scott Eastwood and The Choice (2016) starring Benjamin Walker & Teresa Palmer. There are currently 4 more movies in development.
The film rights to The Notebook were acquired by New Line Cinema in 1996 with Steven Spielberg set to direct, who wished to film it with Tom Cruise as Noah. Spielberg had to back out due to other commitments. Several other directors were linked to it before Nick Cassavetes was chosen in 2002.
Britney Spears was the second choice to play Allie. This would have been a reunion for Britney and Ryan, who were in The Mickey Mouse Club together on Disney. The footage from her audition was put on sale on eBay for $1 million in May 2021. You can see it here: www.reddit.com/r/popculturechat/comments/17epeqa/britney_spears_audition_video_for_the_notebook/. Of course she's nowhere near Rachel McAdams but I think she was pretty good for a rather inexperienced actress (she had done Crossroads which I recommend if you haven't seen it). Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Adams, Claire Danes, Scarlett Johansson, Ashley Judd, Jessica Biel, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Kate Beckinsale, Mandy Moore, Elsa Pataky and Jaime King were also considered/auditioned for the role.
Rachel McAdams auditioned for the role during another movie's premiere. She was given the script just a day in advance. The scenes used during her audition included Allie and Noah's argument at the end after Allie and her mother return from their morning drive. You can see her audition here (where she is actually reading with Ryan Gosling who had already been cast): ua-cam.com/video/_XfUUYK7Gkg/v-deo.htmlsi=3GWpsmDxEb7lRX5G.
George Clooney was orignally supposed to play young Noah while Paul Newman was supposed to play older Noah. Hayden Christensen was also considered for the role. Nick Cassavetes wanted Ryan Gosling because he wanted someone unknown and not "conventionally handsome", as funny as that may be.
Bradley Cooper was considered for the role of Lon, which eventually went to James Marsden (from Hairspray, Enchanted, 27 Dresses, X-Men, Superman Returns, The Butler, Sonic the Hedgehog etc.).
In spite of having an insane amount of chemistry, Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams did not get along at first (which probably made their performances better to be honest) and Ryan even tried to have het eplaced. Cassaveted staged an intervention and they eventually worked through their differences. They even dated for a few years. In 2005, they won Best Kiss at the MTV Movie Awards and they recreated the kiss when accepting the award. It's one of my favourite videos ever and I always go back to it. But it's also a little sad because Paul Walker is one of the presenters 💔 You can see it here: ua-cam.com/video/CC_WUNYux_A/v-deo.htmlsi=BsRfwkJtjvjK2KA-. Random fun fact: Ryan and Rachel were born in the same hospital; St. Joseph's Hospital in London, Ontario.
Ryan Gosling prepared for the role by living in Charleston, South Carolina (where it was filmed) before filming began. He rowed the Ashley River and built furniture every day for two months. He actually built the kitchen table in the house Noah built for Allie.
Rachel McAdams also spent time in Charleston before filming to familiarise herself with the surroundings, along with taking ballet & etiquette classes and having a dialect coach to learn the southern accent.
The "after 7 years" Allie and Noah scenes were filmed first and then they went on a Christmas break. Ryan Gosling had to lose 20 lbs and the beard he'd had. He and Rachel McAdams were rather shy and unsure around each other in the "after 7 years" scenes which actually made it more realistic.
The scene where Noah and Allie row through the lake filled with swans almost didn't happen because the production company was worried about the birds being untrained. To solve the problem, they bought a bunch of hatchlings and raised them on the lake so they were used to the area. Also, Allie's blue dress (which Kobe Bryant would later buy for his wife) and shoes during the rain scene started to fall apart during filming due to the water.
Gena Rowlands, who played older Allie, is director Nick Cassavetes's mother. Her character suffers from dementia in the movie. In June 2024, Cassavetes reported that she now has dementia at age 93.
The photos of older Allie and Noah through the years are actually of Gena Rowlands and her husband John Cassavetes, with James Garner's face photoshopped over John's face.
When we are first introduced to young Allie and Noah, they are wearing the same colors worn by the older versions of them in the beginning of the movie. This was to give us a clue about who they were.
The second love scene with Noah and Allie was originally longer and more explicit. It had to be edited in order for the movie to keep a PG-13 rating.
The scene where Noah drives up and crashes into the gate of Allie's summer manor was a mistake.
Cullen Moss (guy with Allie on the ferris wheel) and Paul Johansson (Allie's mother's ex-boyfriend) both starred on the TV show One Tree Hill. Paul was a regular for most of the series as Dan Scott and Cullen was a recurring character called "Junk".
In 2015, it was reported that a television series was in development by The CW, but as of December 2023, no further news has been revealed. A musical opened in 2022 at the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, with music and lyrics by Ingrid Michaelson. It later opened on Broadway in the spring of 2024.
The Ferris Wheel isn't in the book. Read the book. Other than shaking her hand on the Ferris Wheel he doesn't do and in the book they are younger, they don't fight all the time. They actually have sex when they are 15 and 17. She goes home and when she and her mom fight she writes to Noah, but doesn't mail it. Lon is not that nice in the book and her mom kept the letters. In the book Lon is handsome rich, he does love her, but he is a lawyer and wants to be a politician. She ends up bored, but won't marry Lon who is 8 years older than Allie. She is bored because she has the same life as her mother. In the end Lon is the one that gives her a bad time. When her mom shows up Noah answers the door and she talks to both of them. She tells both of them she loves Lon, but is in love with Noah. They do kiss in the rain, but Noah gets clothes for both of them and in front of the fireplace he waits for Allie to lead the way. Noah is a 100% sweetheart in the book and even in the movie he doesn't do anything to force her. Even in the early love scene he tells her she doesn't have to. When she goes home, he goes to look for work because it is 1932, not 1940 and it is the depression. She tells her friend that they really had sex and the friend keeps saying he isn't writing because he got what he wanted. He doesn't write everyday, but people do it today. He ends up helping a Jewish man build up his business. When he comes home from the war the Jewish man has left him $70,000 and he buys the house because he wanted it before he met Allie. He has help fixing it. There is a Martha and she is a war widow with 3 kids and a run down house. Noah and his friend an older Black man fix her house, but there is no romance. James Marsden says they had to make Lon act better to make it a challenge for Noah. The director who is the older Allie's son pick Ryan because he didn't think he was handsome. A couple of years after the movie Rachel and Ryan ended up together. He joked that every time he came home she asked why he didn't write and they would have to do it all again. Ryan has never been a womanizer and has had 3 loves and all of them are older than he is. Sandra Bullock was 16 years older and she said that Ryan who was 21 taught her to chill and made her life calmer. Rachel is only 2 years old and the real love of his life Eva Mendes is 6 years older.
Although the ending is sad, it also made me happy that they were able to pass peacefully in their sleep together ❤
Sorry for your loss!
Money is great, but it's not everything it cannot buy love, but love is forever if you've truly found it and it's not easy to love someone either, sometimes you're going to fight sometimes, but deep down there is still that spark that tells you that this person is your everyday life, that you want to wake up beside you, when someone is there for you no matter what that is worth more than anything else in the world then to have that special person there for you for good. But that's my input on this commentary chat.
Yes I do believe in love at first sight.. met my husband when I was 14... Still happily married at 51 years old
This actually is in my top 7 movies that I find rewatchable. Along with this is A Walk to Remember, Remember the Titans, The Breakfast Club, Dirty Dancing, Midnight in Paris, and Sing Street.
Yesss A Walk To Remember is incredible! I also love “wild hearts can’t be broken” 😊 i watched it on repeat on vhs and still watch it when I’m sick 30 years later 😅😅😅
Ryan gosling and Rachel mcadams did date in real life.
They even had an iconic kiss for this movie at the mtv movie awards. They really did have strong feelings for each other and they have talked a little about it in the past.
This movie is so very special. I haven’t watched it in years because it makes me cry so much though…
I'm going to say something real, you have a daughter, you better never act like her parents specifically the mother. Even if you disapprove of the guy she brings home, you have to be respectful, you can't just call him trash because he's not in the same tax bracket, or hide letters. You're not acting like a sane parent.
Especially if said mom dated Dan Scott lol
Rachel McAdams filmed mean girls and he notebook in the same year.
Sending you hugs….losing a Gram is so rough ❤️🩹
♥️
I will never get tired of men getting all up in their feels when they actually watch this movie.😂
Amazing how this movie can still make me cry even though I'm just watching it through someones reaction. LIKE HOW. Amazing.
Okay I’ll say it Brian fine as hell lol
My daughter is heading towards her teenage years and I’m freaking out. But the main thing is communication without judging I think. It’s important that she feels safe to confide in you, that way we can be a part of what’s happening in their lives. We can just try our best 🙂
This is a lovely movie.
If we find it hot?
Well, I do.
I like a guy with confidence and knows what he wants. Obviously with some limits 😅
I love this movie! They did an incredible job, it feels so real.
I think you're forgetting the time period in relation to Ally having sex. It's the 1940s, for Ally to have premarital sex would be a huge deal. She almost did with Noah, but she didn't have sex with her fiancee. When she had sex with Noah after they got caught in the rain it was her first time ever.
Also the parents are concerned about the class separation and the fact that he's poor, it's not really more than that. They're unapologetic about disapproving just over class/money because they didn't need anything else in this time period. From their perspective he couldn't provide a future for her.
Fathers should do everything in their power to guide their daughters to choose a suitable man. One that can provide and protect her, without putting her through undue stress and harm. Though, if the love is true...aint nothing you can do about that. But it kills fathers to see daughters suffer, in any way.
Been waiting on this reaction 🤗 thank you
I will never understand the hype for this movie. The setup with the older versions is the only thing that works. Their younger selves are terrible. Noah threatens to kill himself if she doesn't do out with him. That's not romantic or funny, that's psychotic. Then Ally cheats on her fiancee who's actually decent and cares about her, which isn't tragic it's shitty. They suck. Both of them.
I agree, it's dangerous that it's portrayed as romantic. But I still love the movie and older Allie and Noah's love is so pure.
You make good points, but there's also more to it than that. You're looking at the surface more than what's underneath, and in stories, there's a lot of value and truth in what's underneath the events on the screen. You're taking it too literally and too seriously when it's made for entertainment purposes. You have to start with it being young love. At 17ish, we are often quite immature, saying and doing stupid things. Noah is not actually intending to kill himself; he's being reckless. It is obviously over the top and uncalled for, but at 17, many have done something "crazy" to get the attention of a girl (think showing off with a fast car or some acrobatic stunt). Yes, Ally cheats, which is wrong, but she does own up to this. She doesn't pretend like it was the right or responsible thing to do. She knows she f*cked up. That said, within the context of the story and the situation, she was forced out of her relationship with Noah and has unresolved feelings for him. In reality, she never really moved on. This isn't to absolve either of their behavior; just put it into context. Everybody does shitty things and sucks at different moments in their lives, but that's not all that people are. If you don't at some point in your life, then you'll be the first.
@@nomadman5288 she also physically abuses him when he asks for space
@@oliviarogers2808 That's what we're calling that? 😅Okay.
@Arionthelady yes. Hitting someone is abuse.
r.i.p to your beautiful grandma 💛 i lost mine last year. shits hard man
You should react to what a girl wants with Amanda Bynes!
Book written by Nicholas Sparks
Yes, this is a novel by Nicholas Sparks❤
Yes. Ryan gosling and Rachel McAdams had a very long relationship
Top 3 in my romance film category
Strawberry, pineapple & mango with cinnamon vanilla & granola
Thank me later
Yes it was a book and the only book I have ever read in literally a single day 🤭
Great reaction. Definitely one of my favs and it still holds up. I alsp love A walk to remember and Me before you
I do believe in love at first sight
I understand how you feel, I lost my grandma in June. It’s still very hard for me.
Anyways I’m glad you reacted to this movie, it’s so beautiful and heartbreaking
We rented this as soon as it came out on DVD back then. I've always enjoyed these types of movies, but at the time was not interested in watching it. Half way through the movie, I found myself hooked and couldn't look away. In all the years I've watched various types of movies, these two had obvious chemistry, which would also explain why they got together after the movie.
How would this movie rank? I'm old school, so I do enjoy these types of romance movies over romcom's. This easily ranks number one for me and has since I first saw it. The elderly storyline, sorry for your loss, I've been there and it never gets easier. It's hard to watch someone you knew no longer recognize you, but only in brief moments.
Glad you enjoyed the movie, you'll probably wind up watching it a few more times over the coming years. For me, twenty years later, this movie is still great. This movie was and still is a phenomenal showcase of perseverance.
The smoothie must contain mango 🥭
I ranked this bout a 3. My number 1 is There Eyes Was Watching God. Halle Berry, Michael Ealy, Terrence Howard, Ruby Dee, and many more.... Novel by Zora Neale Hurston
I'm so sorry about your grandma.... I can't imagine how tough this was for you to watch just for us. Thanks so much and sending so much love to you!
Omg I’m literally boo hoo crying right now watching this ending😭 I’ve seen this movie before but something about them dying together just breaks my heart💔
Ok I don't know how to spell it but you really need to watch Wuthering Heights starring Ralph Finnes - he was the dude who played Voldemort in Harry Potter
hello I apologize for disturbing you, I wanted to offer you a reaction to a French film if you accept it, it's about hibernatus😆
Watch the movie The Lake House (if you havent already) - Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves
Dude, I was shushing you so hard when they were dancing and she forgot him and he was crying so hard and you were talking the whole time. Maybe it was tough for you but that was the best/worst scene.
Alzheimer’s is most so forgetfulness while dementia usually causes people to be irate and sometimes can take them back to a place of like puberty hormones or toddler fits
B, how old are you that your baby is 10? 👀😂 or teen dad. i could’ve sworn we were the same ago
I needed a good cry this morning. They were such a good couple too so it was even more real
Still one of my all time faves ✨️ idc such a classic, gets me every single time 😪❤️
please watch legends of the fall, you'd LOVE it
Mr flicks this one is going to defeat you I only watched it once can't watch it again
yes fav smoothie - spirulina with banana, and mixed berry with banana .... yes heard about this movie for years and I thought it wasn't for me LOL... maaaaaan was I wrong
By the way.. what is that sludge you're drinking

Your reaction was great, kiddo.
