    i hope you will relay my two stories of near 300 games to Nolan...last year in my 9 pin no tap league i had 10 strikes in a row and threw the 11th ball in the gutter...i got 9 on my last throw for the worse 279 in the history of bowling...in October i had the first 11 in a row and i was so pumped throwing the 12th shot i threw it through the break and only got 7 for a 297...but sometime things work in your favor and at the age of 64, on March 13th of this week i threw my first 300 game...no tap but it means so much to me...Nolan if an old guy like me can do it you will do it also...and my biggest hope for you is you don't have to wait 50 years for your 300...

    I must compliment you on the new style you used for the player introductions. Showing a front and back view of the player shooting is just like the pros do. It fits Prodigy to a T.

      Thank you, Derrick, for noticing. I take pride from the relatively high production values of PRODIGY, given that it's produced each week on a budget of essentially $0. I love to tell you that the show has a team of video editors that work on it. But it's just one editior. Me. And my real area of expertise is AUDIO production (I'm a radio guy who has dabbled in video production the past 18 years or so). 99 percent of my experience producing video has come from doing PRODIGY these past two and a half seasons. A lot of time spent in the edit suite. I was especially proud of the production of the opening sequences of this week's show, especially the player introductions. It had been a while since I'd bothered to get some clips of the kids from the front through a few shots. It's not the first time I've used such shots in the player introductions, but I just kind of liked how it looked this time, with one player on the left and another player on the right. I'm glad someone actually noticed and applauded it. Thanks!

    Hey Randy, any suggestions on my next ball. I'm 17 and throw a 14lb ball, can't remember what type but I like to throw it more straight with a nice hook on the back end. If you have any suggestions please let me know because I would like to update my arsenal from this one ball to at least 2 main, 1 urethane and 1 plastic for spares. So please let me know any suggestions for all balls

    • @ProdigyBowlersTour
      @ProdigyBowlersTour  5 років тому

      Honestly, it's been a while since I've personally bought any new equipment, so I'm a bit out of the loop. But here are a few things I know: As far as urethane goes, the "it" ball in the past year or so has been the Hammer Purple. Storm has just recently come with a an orange pearl urethane called the Fever Pitch, which is supposedly a little smoother. Either one is probably a good choice. One could argue that if you have a urethane ball like either one of those and you don't hook the ball much to begin with, you might not need a plastic for spares, and that you could just use the dynamic urethane ball. But if you insist on having a dedicated spare ball, I would recommend the Storm Mix. It's not plastic, it's urethane, but with its pancake weight block, it won't hook as much as a Pitch Black, Fever Pitch or the Hammer Purple Urethane. But if you insist on plastic, I like the Storm solid white ball. I don't know what it's called, but I love white bowling balls. It's made for spares, and its plastic.
      Now, when it comes to reactive resin balls, if you're going to limit yourself to just two, knowing that you're a straighter ball player, I would recommend a solid and a pearl ball. The Storm IQ Tour (dark blue) has been in Storm's line for quite a few years now (not as long as the HyRoad, but it's become a staple). If you want something stronger, the Crux Prime is their latest top of the line offering with the most flare potential. I love my Crux Pearl, although I'm not sure if this new one has the same weight block.
      If a hybrid overstock is more to your liking, I hear nothing but great things about the Physix. I think if I were bowling more right now, that's the first ball I'd get.
      Then if you want something weaker, something versatile, you really can't beat the original HyRoad (dark blue).
      If you notice that all my recommendations are Storm (except the Hammer Purple), it's because I prefer Storm. It's all I throw.

    Hey Randy
    I'm getting my 1st hook ball a Tropical Storm 15 lb I'm just about to get it drilled got any tips?

    • @ProdigyBowlersTour
      @ProdigyBowlersTour  5 років тому +1

      If it's your first reactive resin ball, I would want to know your ball speed. A Tropical Storm is fairly weak, and may surprise you. If there's much oil on the lane, it won't hook much. A HyRoad might be a better "first hook ball" -- UNLESS your ball speed is super low, in which case, the Tropical would be fine. Let your ball driller make some recommendations. I would not get a ball drilled without the ball driller first watching me throw some shots and identifying where my PAP (Positive Axis Point) is. If he doesn't bother to figure that out, run, don't walk, out the door and find another ball driller.

    Question (apologies if it's been addressed before): Before the show starts, do the players know what pattern(s) are on the lanes, and are they given any advice on how to play them?

    • @ProdigyBowlersTour
      @ProdigyBowlersTour  5 років тому +1

      They are told what the pattern(s) is/are and I'll pull up the pattern spec sheet on my phone and show it to them, tell them the length of the pattern. We have discussed the Rule of 31 many times, I talk about it on the show a lot (which they all watch), and some are better than others at interpreting this info. Most all of them are experienced at bowling on sport patterns. Most all of them bowl in tournaments around this area, all of which are bowled on sport patterns.

    Once Anthony learns to take his time shooting spares, his game and scoring will improve dramatically. Most times he rushes so fast to shoot spares that the pinsetter is still in its cycle clearing deadwood.

    • @ProdigyBowlersTour
      @ProdigyBowlersTour  5 років тому +1

      You know, when I edit this show, I can really tell when a player is going quickly. When I insert an "Instant Rewind," there's usually time to show it before the next shot is thrown. But when the player has already thrown his next shot, I can shift time while the replay is going on to delay the next shot so you don't miss anything. But when I have to do so, I know that the player is going much more quickly than he usually does. Anthony, whether he knew it or not, was WAYYY out of his usual rhythm on this show. He was going WAYYYY quicker than normal.

    How old are Rowan and Hunter? Just would like to have a rough comparison. My son is almost 10, and he is doing about 130 average over the past month.

    • @ProdigyBowlersTour
      @ProdigyBowlersTour  5 років тому

      Rowan is 10. Hunter is 11. If your kid is 10 and has a 130 average, I'd put him at B or B+ grade for his age. Rowan averages somewhere around 140. Hunter averages in the high 150s/low 160s.

    Watching this I could really feel for Nolan, being denied 300 by one stinking frame. I know the feeling very well. In league play some years ago I started out with a strike in the first frame. Then on the second frame I left a "10" pin on a solid pocket hit, then guess what, I struck out the rest of the way. (280 Scratch). That pesky "10" pin cost me a 300 game. Nolan, I sincerely hope it will happen for you some day.Just to show you what I do run into sometimes, right as I went I went to type in the first letter of this comment the first time, something causes my computer to exit You Tube. I had to restart it and get back to the program. Not the first time I have something weird happen to me like this.

    Bowling with earphones... why?

    • @ProdigyBowlersTour
      @ProdigyBowlersTour  5 років тому +2

      The short, smart aleck answer is, "Why not?" But there's actually a good reason why.
      A few years ago, I purchased a DVD with Rhino Page that was all about the mental game. I forget what it was called, and I can't seem to find it anywhere now. Probably didn't sell all that well. But it had some interesting exercises you could do -- mostly mental exercises -- that would effectively get your mind right to make quality bowling shots. We all have a tendency sometimes to over-think shots. Or to start thinking too much about swing mechanics or just TOO MANY THINGS to really be able to just "let it happen." These mental exercises were designed to distract you enough so that you could bowl your best by just letting what you've practiced FLOW THRU YOU to the lane.
      I find that listening to music does the same thing for me. I started wearing my Beats Studio Wireless headphones while bowling league and while practicing and my scores shot up. Gone were the distractions of that screaming idiot four lanes down. Gone were the distractions of the teammate who always has something negative to say whenever he leaves a 10-pin. And gone were my thoughts about whatever mechanical thing I was working on that week. I was able to just LET IT FLOW.
      Now it's certainly true that some competitions don't allow headphones, and I have no problem taking them off and bowling without them. And believe me, there's nothing more distracting than being right in the middle of a delivery, only to get a phone call that interrupts my Aretha Franklin jam with my ring tone blasting me out. (So I try to remember to put my phone on Do Not Disturb before my bowling starts, but sometimes I forget...because I'm an idiot.) But the point is, I've bowled some of my best bowling after turning 60 because I shut out the rest of the world and only hear my tunes when I'm bowling.
      Don't knock it if you haven't tried it. And as long as it's legal and within the rules, who are you to judge others who do it?
      Until I make a rule on PRODIGY that the kids can't wear their earphones while bowling, how can I outlaw it when I do it myself? That would be the height of hypocrisy. And frankly, not only do I not have a problem with it, but I actually think it can help them.
      It could help you, too.

      There's a personal backstory to this that I'm not entirely comfortable sharing here, as it's something that would be more up to Nolan to share if he wants to. Suffice it to say, there's more than just your garden variety disappointment in play here. He was wanting to dedicate this game to a special someone in his life. The fact that he was unable to do so was especially disappointing for him. If he wants to chime in and explain the rest, he can.
