On my occasional day off my late wife would travel to Napler for shopping and have our lunch down by the port at that little Bay next to the main gate, sadly after my wife passed away i didn't go traveling anymore, but then again being a fleet service technician for Bridgestone these truck's are of commen interests. , always to watch them again now from the comfort of my lazyboy chair without on the highway 24 7 in all weathers, sadly many of the driver's have now passing away from those days, keep those wheel nuts torqued correctly OK, ☺👍.

Most of these "American" trucks are specially made for New Zealand & Australian conditions. Compared to the true American trucks in the States, our versions are designed to withstand more extreme types of terrain and also do heavier work. American truck brands such as Kenworth, Mack, Freightliner, Western Star are either built or re-manufactured in Australia for this part of the world. As a Canadian truck driver, I’m always “keen” to what my brothers from around the world are driving. Neat seeing the different trailers and configurations of airlifts for your weight laws. Kenworths are viewed as great trucks over here as well. Any Maori drivers as I’m a native Ojibwa?
8 axle units can range from 46 to 52 tonnes depending on length, while the 9 axle units can go from 50 to 58 tonnes. The 11 axle B train can go 60 + I believe, though the permits seem to be going up in weight all the time.
What do you mean? That's exactly what they are for. The emmersons KWs for example are built to spec and are only permitted to run 62T between the pulp mill and the port specifically, due to the weights. Same with other H units in NZ they run on permits along specified routes with the whole idea being max weights and/or length to move the most product.
8 axles for a CONTAINER???????? Has no sense I think is more than what is needed Try to use 4x2 trucks and two axles in the back, think how much you could save in tyres!!!!
All that money you would save on tyres will soon be spent repairing the nice and smooth road surfaces you see in this video. Countries that move containers on 4 axles are usually 3 world shit holes where no one pays for things because no one can make money because the roads are useless.

The New Zealander trucking industry has an obsession with 8 wheeler prime movers
The twin steering axles help with steering while supporting more weight from what I understand.
Comfier ride, safer in a blowout, better traction, take more weight, win win really

So they can tip the front part without removing the trailer.

Seems like more weight than Aussie trucks now, with the single trailer and twin steer prime mover?
Pretty sure the 11 axle is at 62t on a H permit.
63ton
Scania V8 forever
Why does NZ use so many twin-steer trucks? Is it because of axle-loading regulations or the mountainous terrain?
Mountainous terrain
Axle loading, we can’t run any where near the weight per axle as you can overseas
Weights and axle loads with the added benefits of safety due to blowouts, steering traction, ride etc.
more rubber on the road, less damage to the road.
Twin steer helps immensely on tight corners, an less damage to the road.
To carry more weight .. .
4/5 trucks can eliminate one truck off the N.Z. Roads ..you understand
