Haven't finished listening yet but once again, dead-on accurate. So sick of certain Philosopher types behaving in such a spoiled, entitled manner and expecting others to serve them and to obey their arbitrary rules. I've had the displeasure of working with far too many unhealthy ESTJs who literally make up their own rules (that they try to impose and enforce on everyone else; never themselves) and then change those rules according to their whims and moods. They often get into middle management positions (put there by other SJs, who reward them for showing up on time and for maintaining (outdated, oftentimes) protocol and then try to supervise others without actually LEADING by example. Often even coasting on the hard work of others and sometimes even taking credit for it. Annoying AF. I've known ISTJs who are absolutely convinced that everyone sees the world in the exact same way they do...and then label the rest of us as "bad SJs". Some of them try to force other people to learn (rote memorization) in the same way they prefer to learn. Worked with too many NFPs who view their job as unimportant bc they'd rather be doing something big and grand and meaningful...and yet are too lazy to go do it and so continue to coast along, happily letting others pull their weight; completely unaware that SOME of us actually take pride in any job we do. I've also known people of these types who have grown and learned and improved and are examples to others of their type . Yeah, that whole BS about kings being divine, the pope speaking to god (or whatever the fuck they claim) and the aristocracy/kings/princes whatever sleeping with other people's wives on their wedding night is so fucking stupid. I seriously hate abuse of power in any form, in any fashion, in any place, at any time. NICE lecture; you were really amusing here too haha thanks.

My single dad who raised me by himself is an ISTJ and I think I want to tell people about what an ISTJ can be. My dad suffered in his life but he did not want that for me. He used arbitrary rules and sometimes white lies. He sometimes made up traditions. But they were made to give me shortcuts so I acted in a more mature manner then the deserved through my own experience. It worked. He built a system that made his children better. I know CS Jospeh went pretty hardcore against his type but I would like people to know that ISTJ can build up winning family traditions that can launch the next generations to do great things. That was his goal and that is what he got. This system that ISTJs can build can be used for good. I have lived it and I am grateful. -an intj

I was raised by a single ISTJ mum and I don't know what would have been of us had she not been there for us after our piece of shit ISFP dad ran away with other women and abandoned us. She worked hard and yeah, sometimes she was so hard on us but she has always been there for us, putting her feelings last (Fi at the bottom of the stack) to make sure she fulfilled her duty to us (Si hero). I love my mum and I have mad respect for her, and yeah just wanted to mention my experience in that there are amazing ISTJs out there (I'm an INFJ btw)

Any of fellow Deltas (especially NFPs) must read Emma by Jane Austen, or watch the movie (with Gwyneth Paltrow) or BBC miniseries. The main character, Emma Woodhouse, is the definition of a Philospher type, likely an ENFP, who is constantly trying to make matches through social engineering. She holds a great reputation, and no one sees through her except her ENFJ Templar friend, George Knightley, who sometimes lectures her. I won't spoil it, but in the end we can see how she gains humility and redeems her relationships with others, and it's a great example for us Philosophers of how "good intentions" can still result in bad actions. I don't think Jane Austen even knew about typology, but she knew about human nature, and got this one spot on! So please, Deltas, watch or read Emma.

As an ENFP, I approve of this message.
Watching it, taking in the criticism, and having to admit that I have those negative tendencies and potentials inside of me was quite the self sacrifice itself. Truth burns. But to me, self knowledge is my philosophers stone. Awareness of my shadow keeps the devils inside tamed. Reading has been so key in this. And an ability to take criticism (like this video.) That takes humility. Humility, Gratitude, and Self sacrifice, I have found, are the “I Win” buttons that allow me to to truly contribute something meaningful to humanity.
That’s essentially what Jesus did. Humbled himself, took the sins of humanity on his shoulders (all of our negative tendencies and shortcomings), sacrificed himself for the salvation of humanity.
    You’re right, it’s a holy act.
Thanks for the reflection man, you know your stuff. I see what you’re doing and I respect it.
“The strength of a person's spirit would then be measured by how much 'truth' he could tolerate”

Getting triggered and discuss is not the same thing. Te people discuss, because we want to hear opinion of other people. If an opinion is said, Te challenges it. We also expect getting challenged on our opinions. Goal is to have the same opinion, and doing things the same way, just like goal of Fe is to have the same values.
Te-Fi: everybody has their own goals, needs, desires, but we agree on how to get them done.
Fe-Ti: everybody does, what they are told, but everybody is doing it their own way.

Sis sometimes what we think we are and what we really are are completely different things the mob mentality of ISxJ can get to us coz they make about 40% of the population but their ideas are just retarded. You wouldn't think about it but that's how our dark side when we make bad decisions looks like. INFPs can be corrupted. Even tho we make this philosofical system sometimes it may lack something. If we are young our system will lack something for sure we are not the smartest people in the world. Mb we are the smartest in our neighborhood that's why we think we are superior but sometimes we are really not and unless we experience enough terrific bad shit and be a bit more humble we will not see our own wrong doing. And also if we don't see it by our self and people will try to force it to our throat we will resist so ... yea... xD Fun being an INFP when each day you think if you didnt fucked up something ehh .

If anything xNFPs especially INFPs are usually the ones to be interested in taking down arbitrary power. So, we cannot categorically 'rule out' INFPs behaving in this way, however, it will often be under times of stress, trying not being who they really are or not being 'awake' yet to the worse sides of their nature. I've met many lovely ESTJ's, however, they have functions which dominate. It cannot be as simplistic as 'they have the same functions and are therefore the same'. This diminishes the analysis

But xNFPs are very much into social-justice type movements and those can get really out of hand, very self-righteous and emotion-fueled. The movement and everything it stands for becomes more important to them than the people they are supposedly fighting for. Let’s take the LGBTQ movement as an example, I personally know gay people who are happy in closet, they have their lives figured out the way they want it, but tell that to xNFPs and they’d never be able to conceive the very idea of it, simply because they are so loyal to the movement that the movement is their truth, they’d even out a gay person who is not comfortable being outed, and hideously shame that person for not wanting to come out.

Mike King it does happen though. Also I did not accuse INFP of it, I’m saying xNFPs are not at all immune to fanaticism and transgressions against people who don’t hold the same views as they do. There are extremists within every movement/group, far right, far left, anything in between, all religious groups, all social groups, even celebrity fan clubs etc. The more ardent followers are going to be blinded by whatever set of ‘principles’ that group upholds (could get serious enough that innocent human lives get sacrificed, or could be as minor as shaming and bullying those who don’t share the same view), because they believe they are doing the ‘right’ thing. Also, I’m not a ‘sir’.

  • @HuKayers
    @HuKayers 5 років тому +32

I do notice my own propensity of being more brash and harsh on philosopher types, mainly calling them out on their aubitruary authoritative views. After having a INFP mother & little brother, I’ve gotten familiar with their tendency to human sacrafice, and as a result, whenever I see those tendencies appear, I call them out publically ASAP automatically. I do have to admit my Se parent finds sadistic pleasure in watching their reaction when it happens.
But I do find that the more cognitively mature they are, the more grateful they become when I do it. It’s almost like the have a sigh of relief because they finally found someone who will cut through the BS and hold them accountable by telling them the harsh truth. They really become amazingly brilliant students that take simple things I teach them and achieve incredible things as a result and even help me to learn to open my own mind and to achieve more. That is what I love and respect from them.
When it comes to achievements, I like for my philosopher type to achieve, but not for the sake of self aggrandizement, status, & rep. Because as a guy wholes highly compatible with this quadra (ISTP), I don’t really care about your personal achievements if they are hollow. I only care about them if you are achieving through benefiting others. Because If I see you sacrificing yourself for the sake of others, I’ll be inspired to help give you back the pieces of yourself that you lost. I will fight for you, only if you show that strength of character & responsibility. And you don’t do that will shollow bragging & flexing your authoritative might.
The bottom line is: there is nothing more beautiful than a genuinely grateful philosopher type...it’s just takes a little effort to find one. But that’s just my opinion based of off my experiences with them, but you know...I’m baised on this one.
Good lecture CS Joseph, you hit the nail on the head with this one.

As an ENFP, I do experience life as arbitrary and subjective. However, I have come to accept and understand that this has the potential to hurt others. The people who have taught me this the most are my INTP partner and my ENTP son. They have really shown me the beauty of the Fe/Ti axis. I used to just not understand the value and purpose of this axis and not pay attention to it or take it seriously. (Before I studied the functions of had names for these things).
I have been studying formal logic to hone my Ti and not just make Fi decisions. Practicing Fe feels like opening my heart in a new way. It does make me feel less self-focused. It’s a hard one for me to get sometimes but I try to ask myself what would my INTP or ENTP do?

Wow, this explains my relationship with my dad perfectly. I’m INTP, he is ISTJ. He used to give me all these explanations, I could never understand why his words and actions were different, I’d point it out, and he would get so angry.
I used to get punished so heavily, eventually I got incredibly apathetic about life. I think it affected him finally because I refused to do anything, and that made him look bad. I got fat, ugly, unsuccessful, denounced Christianity (he converted to Christianity as a child, and because of him, I realized God was not real) etc. I even told him, that because of him, I would never marry. And since I always keep my word when it comes to being inactive, ...
He’s finally starting to change. He stopped demanding I live his lie. He’s starting to accept more information as much as he hates it.
But I had to change first. I decided to live my truth, to judge myself rather than judge my dad for his life (I am applying Se to challenge his Si, and I think it’s working, slowly, and I don’t really understand Se). I decided to think about my dreams, and that indeed, his rules didn’t rule my life. And then I think he realized it because his rules are miserable and made everyone miserable.
Now he’s changing. He’s becoming more understanding, his actions are finally starting a little bit more, to coincide with his words. 😊

Sometimes words and actions don't match up because we are humans. Its possible his words were warnings to avoid going down a road he went down. That is not hypocrisy but passing of wisdom.
If an alcoholic commands his children never to pick up a drink, there may be a reason for it that the child does not understand.
Hypocrisy isn't giving advice that you don't follow or can't follow but should follow.
I take all warnings seriously. I found its easier to stay out of trouble than to get out of trouble. And that I can't make all the mistakes of the world so its best to learn from those who did.
And your father's actions do not prove God does not exist. Statement is illogical. Does that mean someone's whose father was honorable proves that God exists?

I'm just going through a dark time after being rejected by a girl and after listening to you, instead of being pissed that she hasn't follow the rules I set up for us I'm just grateful for the year and a half we were so close and all the experience we have together. I don't think everything you say about Philosophers or ENFPs in your other videos apply to me but it's definitely more than I originally admitted.

I have been watching your videos and trying to pinpoint where I exactly need to improve. Long way to improve myself but I realized that because of you I have become somewhat less selfish and instead of trying to criticise my ESFJ Grandma, I am trying my best to keep my ego aside and learn from her. (Also I have again started reading a lot of books.)
Also, my brother intp as you mentioned due to continuous criticism and conflicts at home (as he always states facts whenever my estj mother is trying to manipulate information)was turning apathetic due to this reason. Therefore, I am just trying my level best to appreciate him and bring back his once alive normal self back.
You know what, things have been pretty great and it's all because of you.
I want to thank you so greatly.

You are right! I’m an ENFP and I read a lot now as I’ve matured. I try to help my friend & family members by teaching them about the law of attraction, affirmations and reprogramming their subconscious minds. I also try to help them deal with their marital issues by typing the spouses especially when there is a lot of conflict in the sensor & Intuitive relationships help them understand the differences between sensors and intuitives, their enneagram type, personality type & attachment types. By doing this I feel like I give back to people and make a significant impact in bettering their lives. This in turn making me feel better about myself. So I use all these different philosophies to make my own philosophy of combining all of these for the betterment of mankind 🙏🏻.

I also think the Fi gut reactions people have, towards something where someone is having total right to express and be sincere about, makes it less easy to move forward with the value and truth you are driving towards as Ti user. This is just general "you" I am refering to, it can be anybody.
What there is to take back when an Fi type is having a gut reaction, is a respectful distance until emotions are processed and two people can get back to equal and comfortable discussion between each other. It is totally possible for every Fi user to take back some of their reaction and be 'you know what, you might be right' and actually feel comfortable with that. Truth wasn't so hurtful after all! This teaches Ti types some humility too, from Fe mirroring effect. The Fe mirrors the humility from what Fi is showing. It can be really frustrating to be tip toeing around Fi / Te when your intention is to just drive to universal truths about things and patterns

A few comments to other deltas (a few of these Chase graciously read at the Q&A session after this live lecture):
    1. Try to see how you relate to Chase's negative examples in kind and not degree. Sure, you may not have literally sacrificed other people's lives for your benefit, but how much do you refuse to make sacrifices because you know someone else will come along and make a sacrifice for you? For example, this could be as little as saying you didn't have time to do the dishes when you know your spouse will do them if you don't.
    2. For deltas who are interested in getting started on reading non-fiction, I whole-heartedly recommend first reading Mortimer J. Adler's "How To Read A Book." The book teaches effective steps in how to approach reading in an objective manner, including fiction. Also by M.J. Adler is a series of 102 essays called "The Great Ideas," which are an introduction to the timeless ideas of western history. (These essays were introductions to a greater philosophical compilation of his called the Syntopicon). Could be a good foundation for philosophical thought.
Come on, Deltas. So many of us grow up to become scholars of entertainment instead of scholars for the betterment of human knowledge, philosophy, and humanity. There's a time for entertainment, but let's not waste our greatest gift of our temperament on the trivial.

Hi Chase. As an ENFP, I'm grateful for this teaching and the way you show the application of personality at such a deep and broad level, and with passion! I do find what you say to be true in my experience so I'll take the advice ( I am old (35) so I have improved myself out of a lot of the depravity you mentioned). I've definitely been seeking that "I win" button, and recently it's been building a personal philosophy on how to "get the most out of my life" based on what I can perceive Ne, what I know Si, how I can optimise and organise Te, and fitting my values Fi. I'm hoping that will be "the thing" that overcomes my feeling of lost opportunity/potential/failure. I will share it with others, but it may need to be tweaked based on personality types. :) One of my many projects though, so I don't know when. If someone wants to steal the idea, go ahead. It won't be exactly like mine. :)
I did get an impression though, lacking in data as it may be, that you like your son more than your daughter? I remember you said on another video that we are responsible to give other types what they need and not "damage them" because they were not a good fit for our family. I hope you are making your daughter feel wanted and special, and what you said in the "8 rules to love ENFP" video, so that she is motivated to be her best for you and for the world...and not have to struggle as I did. Actually, I would love it if you could do parenting videos for each type.

Hybe If you see yourself as “special” (aristocrat elitism), you see yourself as inherently entitled to “draw from” others (Vampire mentality, and movie vampires usually look aristocratic). In this mindset, you are “separate from”, due to superiority, rather than just one human in an interconnected web. Recognizing where you are lacking (and thus where you need others) may lead to humility; humility isn’t subjugation but, rather, seeing your “true” place in the universe. With enough humility, you can feel gratitude for the riches that others bring; interactions are no longer a competition to seize/maintain elite status, but a reciprocal exchange that benefits all. No permanent hierarchy of power, just “in the moment” leadership by whoever “has the goods” needed for a given situation (Leadership by current merit). A King Arthur round table - applied to social interactions, minus the word “king”.

Informative bomb inbound, read it if you wish I guess if you want some thoughts from an INFP. This video triggered some serious introspection. There were several times when I wanted to make a comment defending myself but I just kept watching. Being completely honest, my affiliative side was a bit annoyed but because I haven't actually participated in the worst of the activities mentioned I was able to power through. Yet I can't deny creating and then contorting arbitrary rules on a small scale and a bit of a belief in a superiority problem, even as hidden as it is when compared to the extroverted members of the quadra. I believe I have been searching for my philosophers stone through typology. I have been trying to find my type, and through that knowledge I had hoped I could just follow what that type should do to quiet my Ni critic and satisfy my Si child and be happy forever with one easy realization. Now I realize I have known my type to be INFP for a long time, but because I don't want to make personal sacrifices I have been holding on to the idea that I can find the easy solution to my life just through declaring myself a certain type. An important realization that should help me from here.
I had this idea some time ago to illustrate the relation between NFJ and NFP importance, specifically the introverted versions, as they are often seen as the least useful from the broad xSxJ perspective (INxxs in general, but INFxs more than INTxs because they aren't quite so intellectually powerful, at least not right away in life). In Game of Thrones, we see the two main characters, Jon Snow (INFP mentioned in one of your streams that has been removed) and Daenerys (INFJ actually typed during the stream I am remembering that has since been removed), actually save the realm. Regardless of the shows execution, the story is a good example of what these two types do. Jon Snow is like the ultimate ideal INFP for the sake of narrative while Dany is a strong INFJ but still has her types trickster weakness. Jon Snow goes to the edge of the world to the wall like an actualized INFP should, and uses his Ne parent fueled by his other functions to determine the White Walker threat that nobody else could see in the SJ and SP dominated Nights Watch. While trying to stop it, he makes the ultimate sacrifice of his life, and his philosophers stone is kind of his resurrection and crowing as King in the North. With his newfound status and power, he continues serving by sacrificing his title (only an actualized and integrated Delta would do this) to Dany, who with her Ni hero was able to actually do the seemingly impossible and unite many disparate factions together. Jon hands her the full picture and knowledge of what must be done, and she in turn does what he cannot and leads their armies to an eventual victory. The INFP can see the problem in the world that nobody else can, and the INFJ once they are taught can solve the problem that seemed impossible to overcome.

Unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to read the ender's game series yet, however, as Chase was talking about the Speaker of the Dead my mind immediately went to one of my favorite shows, the anime Death Parade. It's very similar in meaning from an abstract conceptual point of view and, from what I can tell, it contains very similar narratives and thematic topics involving fair judgment and unhindered perception of peoples' lives to determine their true quality of character. I highly recommend this show if you want more raw truth and justice art.

So as an INTP, when I get "FORCED" (by my boss) into action I transition from Deductive reasoning into Inductive reasoning (and also from Ne to Ni) so I can leap into the unknown, because otherwise I would stay where I am comfortable. PS my Boss hates inductive reasoning, but he also hates my "Lack of Progress", and forces me into action, but then complains that I am just making guesses, as he cannot follow my leaps as he is an ISTJ, and intuition isn't a strength for him. The Ti to Te transition is exciting and scary for an INTP... exciting if you think you have all the facts and can move with assuredness. Terrifying if you are pushed into leaping into the unknown and have to quickly find the facts to cling to so you can re-build factual reality around you in an unfamiliar space. The many times I have had to do this in my career, have been my greatest successes, Te Ni are a POWERFUL COMBO, but if you live there without at least visiting Ti Ne, I can see how you would "Die by Assumption".

In my opinion the INTx types have selective memory. We probably understand how you got your decision but there is a lack of clarity as to the why with these types. I know my flaws are there and their probably a burden to others so when people notice them, I attempt to minimize the inconvenience it may cause as much as possible.
When people acknowledge my limitations, it does baffle me but if they give me a series of specific examples as opposed to just a generalized statement it gives me room to learn.
When you confront the immature INTx type, they project, they warp words, manipulate, and retaliate.

How I know I'm not a Delta Quadra
1: I was immediately uncomfortable. I just wanted chill and watch a video.
    2. After the feelings of uncomfort, I went from uncomfortable to angry in compliance with what you said about the Delta Quadra.
    3. So, based on my pragmatism, this would mean that I could either be an ILI, or an LII or ILE in the alpha quadrant.

As an INFP watching this, it really hit home. Because I was a brat as a kid thinking that I was better than others and deserved to be popular when I wasn’t and never was. Afterwards I got bullied by someone who was jealous of me and sexually abused by my stepfather (who I believe was an ISTJ) at the same time. It doesn’t help that last year that I learned that my father was a pimp (who I believe is an ESTJ) when he was younger. My father would use the success of all of my siblings and take all the credit by saying that he was the one who got them there. When he didn’t. He also abused my mom when they were together and cheated on her. So, when I was watching this realizing that society is like this because of philosophers like me…it was kind of hard to digest at first. Especially when my Si child just keeps bringing up times when I’ve seen it and / or experienced it happening and it just felt so uncomfortable. I know that I’ve matured a lot since then and I know that I am not entitled to anything (barely believe that I deserve living sometimes), but I know that I’m here for others…just not exactly sure how yet as a college student.
Sorry for the TMI but I just really wanted to say that you’re right and that people need to grow up and change since the world is a complete disaster.

    Mind blowing!!!
When I started reading philosophy I couldn't understand why Monarchs were so closed minded to kill people like Socrates that were actually seeking justice, sometimes I even raged to what I was reading. How could monarchs choose power and money over a human being? Why there wasn't someone to teach them Mercy?
Now I get it, my mind does not see the world as a Te user, it's the most suppressed area of my mind and while reading I realized it

He's right. As an INFP who practices spiritual beliefs (meditation, Buddhist, & used to do Wicca), figured out why we are inclined to such things & why it works naturally for us because I feel like it describes Fi because it's the most natural way of living as an INFP in its purest form, basicaly living with Fi mostly. Fi is the flow of law of attraction & is the engine to "crafting" or manifesting. Ne is to discover what you want to attract & to see what exactly it is your doing/believing (observing your Fi) & Si is to ground it to "set affirmations" to the universe/Yourself (rule for all spirituality: you are the universe, the universe is you). That's what these practices have in common & that good energy (Fi in it's purest form) & Fi is painting you a picture using Ne what is Fi (Devine or Wretched) if that makes any sense. Ti & Fi can be in a scale or on parallels but both come to similar conclusions. For example let's say science (Quantamechanics) & spirituality (Ego death). They both have a conclusion that we are made out of the same things, electrons = energy so we're all made out of the same shit. They both have a clear vision of other dimensions but the approach is different which makes Fi in a way a truth but on the scale of good & bad vs truth or false. I'm going into theory rn with that but I know some people really think Fi is so useless when it can be just something else if that makes any damn sense lol I think Ti can be proven by Ti in a Te way or in a written grounded way & Fi can be proven by Fe basically not visibly proven but Fe shown (I realized that kind of didn't make sense). The only way a Ti user can see Fi or the absolute good is with psychedelic drugs, basically Acid, Shrooms, Dmt (DMT takes you to ego death, which means temporary death, psycologicaly speaking death of the cognitive funtions, spiritualiy speaking seeing all of them at the same time) etc which is the closest way to describe good vs evil in a "visible" format.

So sometimes asking for the source's source can help you do that because you go and exam the main source.

Thank you so much CS. I’m an ENFP and honestly…your talk makes me feel both vindicated and “special” 😂🤦‍♂️. There’s a deep and special love and awe I feel like when you talk about this Quadra, and it…it’s good.
When you gave this talk, it seemed like you treated our Quadra as especially special. And I like it 😎.
It’s very validating and inspiring and awe-inducing, and even feels me with gratitude. (I hate that I’m parroting some of the terms you used, but they do fit so well).
Just as you seek to solve fatherlessness and somehow restore the soul of our society, I too feel a potential to do so via the ideas and stories and projects I wish/consider pursuing. These dreams…although important, seem so far away and so difficult as to be not worth chasing.
However, you say that we are special and you say that we have extra responsibilities. Believing yourself to be special sounds grandiose. But hearing you describe this Quadra makes every single challenge, pain, and sacrifice. It makes the dreams that I and perhaps others feel no longer just dreams. But now suddenly obligations, and duties, and even redemptive journeys. And it makes the need to achieve those dreams more real too.
    Good work!

are there any statistics on mbti demographics in universities btw? it seems like it's mostly N-types (not estj/istj; a lot of intj/infjs too), which is interesting to think about. i kinda liked this - although it's a bit too emotional and overstated sometimes for me.... nonetheless, it's refreshing to hear 'bad' stuff about mbti types sometimes! i must say though, as an infp i find it quite amusing that i've been described as having 'great power'... one other thing i find is unhelpful with all this mbti typing sometimes is that we end up shifting real socio-economic and political problems onto 'types' - as if they were really our destinies.. it seems like all this energy can be used to solve these problems at the level of the problems themselves rather than interpreting them according to a grand template of fixed psychic forms...(i don't think even you really think that sexual trafficking is best dealt with by ranting at infps, for eg......)

That’s what I keep getting confused about too. I’ve been looking in the comments for some kind of clarification but no one really explains it. The best I could come up with is that Fi is the gas in society, and Ti is the breaks. Like People with Fi Te have a vision and push forward to make it real for the world. And then Ti Fe optimizes it and tried to make it a fair and truly aligned thing. Too fast with the Progress and you end up with corruption, to much of the breaks means stagnation and subsequent death to those who do strive for greater. That’s my working theory rn at least.
