I had the Laowa, it broke 10 months in with VERY little studio only use. Trying to get warranty work was impossible, I gave up. I bought a few others, adapted and native, ended up with the Sony and stuck with it. The 90G is by far the best because it has stabilisation that works better than using IBIS only, it works with the focus stacking in some Sony bodies, it has AF and it produced better images than all other options I tried (a half dozen of them). I think it's built better also. Great value lens.
I bought this as my first lense. Man, the shots you got with it are amazing! I'm trying to figure out how you got your full subject in focus like you did. I'm loving this lense for portraits too.
What great sharpness, detail and color in your stellar photos and video! Just incredible! Thanks for creating this video! PS. Is that an Ori painting on the wall?
Thats so amazing. Beautiful examples. What white balance and saturation settings or profile did you use? How did you get the chrome yellow flower colour in the sunlight? Did you acquire it in the post editing? Because this lens is giving off yellow, like brownish to me.
I'm disappointed with the macro capabilities of my GM zoom lenses. I know they're not made for that, but i don't shoot enough macro to buy a special lens for it.
hey Tim, yes … however, extension tubes work best at around 35 to 50mm. Longer focal ranges result in less magnification. If you only are interested in photos, the Laowa 90mm is one heck of a value and has 2 to 1 magnification
For photography, the Laowa is great. Half the price, twice the magnification. That said, the Sony is a better all around macro lens. Especially if you want to use it for video too. ua-cam.com/video/sDarejFK4m4/v-deo.html
Hey Brian, thanks for this excellent video I would like to ask, I just bought the lens, however not know which flash to use? My camera is an a6400. Thanks
It’s complicated, but that’s certainly an option. For me, I have never used cat browse to this point. Adding another step to an already taxing editing work flow is not something I am interested in. Furthermore, having OSS in the lens means that real time filming is smoother. This is also really nice when shooting photos. OSS makes composition is a bit easier …
@@Doogsay no laowa lenses have stabilisation. I'm not even sure the GOOD third parties, sigma and Tamron, have them. It's how Sony maintains a market while charging more per lens.
I have this lens and I use it for everything from portraits to action shots. Sharpest lens I've ever used.
It’s such an amazing lens for sure!!

Wow super sharp detail! Event photographers really would benefit from this camera and lens!
thank you Suzy!

Hey Thomas! thank you my friend, and yes! That’s an Ori on the way, me and my best pal Otis. Miss him …
Looks like a great lens, I hope to test it one day.
Right! I think you shoot Canon!! Well, you have that cool 150mm ‘dragon fly’ lens. Hope they make that for Sony mount soon. Cheers Stewart.
what kind of light do you use for macro videography (not photography)
Some great features.
indeed my friend.

I liked this lens. Nice shots and photographs.
Thanks a lot! It’s a great lens for sure.
did you focus stack any of the photos in this video?
Great Video. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for the visit
I've been looking at that lens myself for a while. Have you tried it with the powered macro rings as well?

Thanks for this video, wonderful lens :)
My pleasure!
This is an awesome review!
Glad you liked it
Just to confirm -- it is compatible with Sony a7c?
Yes it's E mount
Why is it that these lenses are the best and almost 10
Years old? Are there any new options? Seems like old tech.

@@BrianGJohnsonPhotography what’s the best option for video?
I consider to buy this lens for my a74, does it good for landscape photograghy too?
My girlfriend just picked up the A74, it's a fantastic camera suitable for pretty much everything including landscape, wildlife, video and more.
Is there an autofocus lens that gives magnification 2:1?
not that I’m aware of friend.
Could you please let me know it's performance with Sony zve10
solid …

Thanks a lot Brian I am going to check it.
Best Regards.
But you would still be better off with OSS off, and then stabilise in Cat Browse, wouldnt you agree?
