I’m glad that he finally found his wife. I hope to do the same. I hear they’re quiet good!
The more I listen, the more amazing this is!
I am so sorry I missed Bill Callahan. Just catching up now, and this is phenomenal.
22 years ago I heard cold blooded old times. Today I'm now listening to his other songs.
I think he's one of my favorite singer-songwriter. Musically wonderful.
So relaxed Bill and the band in fine extraordinary form ,fantastic.
Amazing Performance! Powerful lyrics, stunning instrumentation, WOW
I just happened upon this video.. wow what a treat.
Started as a Smog fan back in the 90's. Bill is truly a treasure.
I went back and forth from watching it to listening and doing other stuff. There was a point where I'm watching it and realize, wow this was shot really beautifully..... artistically. The French have an interesting perspective on how to document a live event. I mean there's only so much you can do with a live show..., otherwise it's just the same mtv style bullshit. .
Merci beaucoup !!
This guy's songs are great enough that they can be performed under any style and sound original. I'm thinking of Bathysphere.
Very enjoyable, a unique talent
Latent talent and oh so underrated. Thanks for sharing with the world
Maybe cause is very similar to Nick Cave
il sera en France en Avril 2023 -- super news
I like to much Bill Callahan, specially because he reminds me another great singer: Kevin Ayers.
He reminds me of Dorian Gray. I guess there's a picture of him somewhere in a basement.
just love his voice. it all comes together
19:35 Too Many Birds
This is really amazing. He sings with the same feeling as Leonard Cohen
This song is so beautiful.
Too many birds in one tree
Too many birds in one tree
And the sky is full of black and screaming leaves
The sky is full of black and screaming
And one more bird
Then one more bird
And one last bird
And another
One last black bird without a place to land
One last black bird without a place to be
Turns around in hopes to find the place it last knew rest
Oh black bird, over black rain burn
This is not where you last knew rest
You fly all night to sleep on stone
The heartless rest that in the morn, we'll be gone
You fly all night to sleep on stone
To return to the tree with too many birds
Too many birds
Too many birds
If
If you
If you could
If you could only
If you could only stop
If you could only stop your
If you could only stop your heart
If you could only stop your heart beat
If you could only stop your heart beat for
If you could only stop your heart beat for one heart
If you could only stop your heart beat for one heart beat
39:09 The songs are interrelated - awesome songwriter!
"All Thoughts Are Prey to Some Beast"
"The leafless tree looked like a brain
The birds within were all the thoughts and desires within me
Hoppin' around from branch to branch
Or snug in their nests listenin' in
An eagle came over the horizon
And shook the branches with its sight
The softer thoughts
Starlings, finches and wrens
The softer thoughts, they all took flight
The eagle looked clear through the brain tree
Emptying the thought saved for me
Maybe I'll make this one my home
Consolidate the nests of the tiny
Raise a family of might like me
Then something struck him wings of bone
Sweet desires and soft thoughts were all gone
The eagle shrieked "I'm alone"
Well, it was time to flee the tree
The eagle snuck up on the wind
One talon at a time
Being sky king of the sky
What did he have to fear?
All thoughts are prey to some beast
All thoughts are prey to some beast
All thoughts are prey to some beast
All thoughts are prey to some beast
All thoughts are prey to some beast
All thoughts are prey to some beast
Sweet desire and soft thoughts, return to me
Sweet desire and soft thoughts, return to me
Sweet desire and soft thoughts, return to me
Sweet desire and soft thoughts, return to me
Sweet desire and soft thoughts, return to me
Sweet desire and soft thoughts, return to me
Sweet desire and soft thoughts, return to me
Sweet desire and soft thoughts, return to me"

01:56 "Our Anniversary"
"It's our anniversary
I leave it ajar
And go outside
To look at the driveway stars
The crickets are chirping
They stop at my step
I stop my step
And they start up again
It's our anniversary and the bullfrogs
And everything that can sing is singing
Its mating song
The soil is steaming
Grass is swooning
Guns or fireworks are popping
Down in the town
A woman is running
A man jumps up and down
Its our anniversary and you've hidden my keys
This is one anniversary you're spending with me
I slide in the front seat
The driver's side
To hotwire and hightail crosses my mind
But still in the driveway
Fixed like the stars
I flip on the headlights
And go back inside
The climates controlled
While the battery dies
Clipping the wings of your morning flight
The night will end
In some form of excess
Pants around ankles
Too weak to fully undress
Its our anniversary
A celebration of
And here's to next year
Maybe you'll join me in my car
We'll drive together
But not too far
We are far from flowers
Cut and dried
So let us thrive let us thrive
Let us thrive let us thrive
Just like the weeds
We curse sometimes"
08:08"Diamond Dancer"
"She was dancing so hard
She danced herself into a diamond
Dancing all by herself
Dancing all by herself
And not minding
Doing the thing as she dreamed it
Doing the thing as she dreamed it
Her skin was sky blue
Her skin was sky blue
Under the lights
Diamond dancer, diamond dancer
Diamond dancer, diamond dancer
Diamond dancer, diamond dancer
She was dancing so hard
She danced herself into a diamond
Dancing all by herself
Dancing all by herself
And not minding
And the one thing on her mind was
The one thing on her mind was:
"It's time I gave the world my light
"It's time I gave the world my light
Starting tonight"
Diamond dancer, diamond dancer
Diamond dancer, diamond dancer"
13:30 "The Wind and The Dove"
"Somewhere between the wind and the dove
Lies all I sought in you
And when the wind just dies
When the wind just dies
And the dove won't rise
From your window sill
Well, I cannot tell you
Which way it would be
If it was not this way too
For the wind and the dove
For the wind and the dove
And I am a child of linger on
I peer through the window gone
I am a child of linger on
I peer through the window gone
Somewhere between the wind and the dove
Lies all I lost in you
And when the wind just dies
When the wind just dies
And the dove won't rise
From your window sill
Well, I cannot tell you
Which way it would be
If it was not this way too
For the wind and the dove
For the wind and the dove
And I am a child of linger on
I peer through the window gone
I am a child of linger on
I peer through the window gone"
19:14 "Too Many Birds"
"Too many birds in one tree
Too many birds in one tree

The sky is full of black and screaming

One last black bird without a place to land

If you could only stop your heart beat for one heart
If you could only stop your heart beat for one heart beat"
25:11 " Bathysphere"
"When I was seven
I asked my mother
To trip me to the bay
And put me on a ship
And lower me down
Lower me out of here
Because when I was seven
I wanted to live in a bathysphere
Between coral
Silent eel
Silver swordfish
I can't really feel or dream down here
And if the water should cut my line
And if the water should cut my line
Set me free
And if the water should cut my line
Set me free, I don't mind
I'll be the lost sailor
My home is the sea
When I was seven
My father said to me
'But you can't swim'
And I've never dreamed of the sea again"

Ahh,Jimmy my boy. Good lad
Who is Jim Cain?
I feel the same.
I read in some newspaper that his eyes look hungry.
If only they were about me.
I want to see his face in every shot.
I've fallen in love with Bill!
😘

@@manuelsantos2199 thank you so much for your kind answer, Manuel !
In case you haven't watch yet, I feel you might also enjoy this one, Bill Callahan - Sycamore - Don't Look Down
ua-cam.com/video/GGeofZWsky8/v-deo.html
There are more two videos on Pichfork channel (Brooklyn rooftop performance in 2007)
I found his last album right now, I'm listening and enjoying it,
"Bill Callahan - YTILAER (Full Album) 2022" on YT
Stay well, Anne!
he reminds me of Shawn Phillips ...
I've seen Shawn live and had about seven of his albums and to my mind Bill Callahan sounds nothing like him... Their voices are completely different - Bill would be incapable of singing The Ballad Of Casey Diess and alternatively Shawn wouldn't be able to cope with Rock Bottom Riser ... They're as different as Cat Stevens is from Roy Harper
Impossible don't compare him to Nick Cave
Is being well tuned suddenly really uncool?
