Total War Zone m top 6 favourite units: 6. Late Libyan Hoplites 5. painted ones 4. Ambushers 3Berserkers 2. Oathsworn 1. Royal Cataphracts I love all of these units a lot! Honorable mention: Praetorian Guard. Its not as good as armoured legionaries but these guys look epic
SPARTA!! for real though, i was suprised how good spartan units are and how little people mention that a royal spartan unit against anything (exept some sword units) on one on one will win.
5) Sobek Cultists (cool look, can be used to push morale) 4) Bactrian Peltasts ( advantages of Peltasts and Light Peltasts combined) 3) Pergamenes Noble Cavalry ( almost exact same stats as companion cav, but cheaper) 2) Evocati ( effective infantry, cool look) 1) cimmerian heavy archers (extremly good archers)
@@user-rh3pe7um8d Replacing Pergamenes Noble Cavalry in my opinion are Ma’rib Camel Cataphracts. Really cost effective if used correctly, they have trample, scare horses, and ridiculously tacky.
PIKEMEEEEEN! I've always loved hammer and anvil and pikes are one of the best anvils available. my Macedon comp is always 6 pikes in the centre 4 hoplite's on the flanks (2 on each side) 6 ranged units and 4 cav
Same here! My ideal army is a handful of pikemen at the center, maybe some thermos spears at the flanks (both to hurl javelins and to protect against cavalry) and then melee cavalry at the rear to both counter charge cavalry if my enemy has tons of cav or to perform the classic Macedonian "hammer and anvil" tactic by attacking the enemies rear. I've routed plenty of armies by using my pikemen to hold the center while wheeling around my cavalry to either kill the enemy general if I'm lucky or to attack the enemies main line at a weak point, chopping their army in half. Egypt is one of my favorite factions partially because their Nubian spearman are such great cavalry killers for the price, they have access to great cheap and great expensive pikes, and their medium tier cavalry allow you to spam them to hammer the enemies rear, they have to many good medium infantry that it allows you to remain very mobile in flanking and their wide selection of low tier units allow you to actually do pretty good at a low budget in multiplayer and allow you to field large formidable armies in single player
Sacred band history really cool O.o The Sacred Band of Thebes: It was composed of 150 male couples, each pair consisting of an older erastês (ἐραστής, "lover") and a younger erômenos (ἐρώμενος, "beloved")
Socii Extraordinarii and thorax swords! I realise this video is a bit old now, but it would be great to see a run down of all the auxiliaries available to Rome and maybe even what units are available as levies from client states / satrapies. Such a great game and your videos are always awesome!! Cheers.
The Macedonian foot companions, I love to make a line of phalanx with missile units to the rear and Calvary covering the flanks, I also think the Roman war dogs are under appreciated for there tactical use, especially when it comes to how effective they are at eliminating missile troops and field artillery
my favorite Unit is the Spear-Agema from Pergamon, in combination as secondline with thureos-spears they are a deadly line by throwing deadly rains of jevelins over the enemy forces, you can take hole armys out by using them as a "missle" unit with good melee stats. They are not the best melee of course, they can break easly against swordunits, but they are so good when youre a defensive player. my second favorite are the Royal Cataphracts and the Royal Pergamenian Cavalry, cause their strong charge, and well melee stats. my Third favorite are the Choosen Peltats, you can imangine that i love it to throw jevelins or arrows on my enemy, and the chossen peltastes are really strong and they can used as flank covering unit, of course you should place a spearunit right behind them because they are weak against cavalry. my fourth favorite are the Linothorax swordman, they can be a very good support unit for the flank or good for a second line, i take often sword units with jevelins for flank covering cause the jevelins can take out entire cavalry units.
Not a single pick was a bad unit and the whole video made sense since it was clearly communicated that it's subjective. Good job, that's how these videos should be done.
10. Royal Peltats. Macedonia is a favorite of mine, so their elite infantry is a must. 9. Mercenary Etruscan Hoplites. This ones a bit personal, they also did awesome for me in campaigns, and I love their unit card too. 8. Any of Pompey’s Roman troops. Love the purple and blue. 7. Mercenary Noble Fighters. From what I can tell, this is the best infantry unit in the game. Loved them in my Carthage campaign too. 6. Balearic Slingers. Again, I love Carthage. 5. Mercenary Thracian Warriors. These guys packed a huge punch for me in multiple campaigns, all round, great unit. 4. Auxiliary Illyrian Levies. A bit of an odd one, bit these ax wielding levies were a great armor piercer in the early stages of my Rome campaigns. I specifically remember how they somehow managed to defeat a unit of shield bearers. 3. Thracian Nobles. By far my favorite infantry, awesome look and tremendous power. 2. Thracian Cavalry. Superb javelin damage and awesome melee stats, what’s not to love? 1. Thracian Peltasts. I used to fill entire armies with these guys, just a fantastic skirmisher/light infantry.
Numidian Noble Cavalry! Love their versatility as both elite missile and semi-medium cav, they look cool, and historically were essential to Hannibal's victories and later defeat.
Maybe it's because I love their campaign so much but I LOVE a lot of the Seleucid Units! Silver shields, Catephracts and Eastern elephants are all devestating units on the battlefield!
It's really cool, since they pull out a mixed bag of warhammers, axes, and swords (I think both short and long) when they run into melee. Noble Horse Archers might do so as well, but I'm not sure.
I cant believe no one has mentioned this yet but...socii equites extraordinarii. Very cool looking, also very easy to get shock cav when playing as Rome.
Any Phalanx. Excellent at deffending cities, excelent in offensive maneuvres. Immortal agains every cavalery units, good armor against archers. Yeah, but kinda weak at the back
The Spanish auxiliary swords in DEI, Had two armies built around them in my lepidus campaign they marched from hispania, to gaul , then greece, then parthia and eventualy ended up in scottland.
my favourite units in the game are the praetorian guard ( romans), royal cataphracs ( parthia, selucids, pontus, armenia ...), galatian swordsmen ( galatia) , greek hoplites, and the thracian nobles ( odrysian kingdom)- are awesome and enjoyable to play ad.
1.Royal Cataphracts(20 units and CHARGE) 2.Spartan Pikemen(A good set up can kill many people) 3.Slingers(Ammunition,I killed an exhausted oathsworn &general before only by four slingers) 4.Elephants(hundred kills in a few seconds) 5.Guerilla swordmen(place right next to the wall when siege)
+Total War Zone Um, not sure if it is a good list, but I could really love to see your like 5 top strategies? I know they can change in a fight, but I mean the starting one, to say like that :D
+Total War Zone best missile Units series (archers,Peltasts, slingers) everything in one video and best Infantry(spears and melee) and best cav (sapareted in Shock and melee)
As a DeI player there is only one, nothing else. Kartvellian Guerilla Archers, there is NOTHING that can stack up to those in my eyes! These guys are just so plain outright BROKEN if you know how to use them right!
Well, I was honestly expecting a nomadic unit based on the video thumbnail and your own love of shock cav. That said, the royal/noble lancers and Saka Cataphracts for the Roxolani and Massagatae are by far my favorite in the base game. I remember when the nomad factions came out and there was such a step up from the very bland-looking units of Rome/Carthage and the scale-armored, cloak-wearing nomadic nobles with their horses are tricked out with armor and horns. It felt just perfect, and ever since I've been a fan of nomadic factions in every TW game. And also thracian nobles, who doesn't love them.
+Broreale I didn't want to give away what units would be in the video so I just picked a random one. You're right, the Nomadic Factions are very cool indeed. I just haven't played enough with them to get familiar with all their units to be honest. Thracian Nobles almost got into the list, I decided to leave them out at the final selection.
+Michael ADJ You're right. I started with a top 20 and they were in there, however I prefer the Cimmerian ones myself. Cretan Archers are cooler from a historical perspective.
+Ragna Rock Thanks a lot friend. I'm a huge fan of DeI as well! Those units are really cool indeed, but I also like the Roman auxilliary units in that mod. Very cool and authentic.
I really like the Baktrian horse-archer's and i really like all kinds of pike units. But all units have their own area of speciallity. Charge yer shock-cav into my Thorax-pikemen,s phalanx and you'll see what i mean. ;D
I think is the problem of rome 2: pike units can hold the line for a really long time also against roman infantry equipped with a big shield, attila is better for this because the pikes can be destroyed in a long fight
When I was younger and I first learned about the battle of Carrhae in which a small Parthian army defeated a vastly larger and superior army and ever since then I've loved the Parthians. For that reason I love Cataphracts .y nave on Rome 1 was the King of the Cataphracts X3 GRIND THEM INTO DUST
I personally really like Bactrian Horse Archers and the Pontic Swordsmen. The PS kinda suck but they look cool and they can body most of the Eastern spear units. I do a pontic cav general, 5 Pontic Swords, 5 Bronzeshield Pikemen, 4 Pontic Peltasts, and 5 Median Cav.
Well I like very much the looks of Praetorians/Armored Praetorians, mostly of their capes, helmets and the good stats. Yeah it is a costly unit, but I love it.
Interesting choices, shame that no Lusitani made the cut :P Could we have a top 10 game mechanics (campaign and/or battle) over all of total war history? :3
+Lord Rexasaur You just want to see the world burn don't you? That would be a difficult video, haha. Lusitani Veteran Shield Warriors are also a personal favorite of mine.
Nice unit selection! Here is mine: 1. Syrian Armoured Elephants 2. Silver Shield Pikemen 3. Hellenic Cataphracts 4. Armoured Legionaries 5. Thorax Swordsmen 6. Royal Peltasts 7. Aspis Companion Cavalry 8. Egyptian Infantry 9. Heavy Tower Octeres 10. Heavy Tower Hepteres Mostly for the look :) Btw, can you make a top of your favourite units in DEI? That would be amazing! :D
+Christian Dingkuhn Thanks a lot, I might do one for DeI as well actually. I see you piked some ships as well. The Egyptian Octeres ships are really cool!
Well it all depends honestly. It all depends on if I have support units or not. Swordsmen and cav then 1 would be pikes (preferably Spartan pikes because of the no loss in moral due to fall of the commander) but if no support units then they are too vulnerable without support or flank coverage. So: 1. Pikes (with support) or 1. Pretorian Guards 2. Syrian archers 3. Thorax Swordsman (great pike flanking support btw) 4. Lusitani Nobles 5. Cataphracts (another great flanking support, obviously) 6. Triari (probably spelled it wrong) they are pretty good later on in the game against the solid cav armies of the nomads in my opinion 7. Oathsworn 8. Royal Peltasts 9. between Lusitani swordsmen and Carthagian hoplites (both are pretty decent for how quickly you get them and their upkeep) 10. Eastern spears (lol)
Its a long time since i played vanilla Rome II. I am using DeI all the time. Simply because its great! Since the unit variety is so great i couldnt pick a single unit. So i decided to pick the Batavian Cohors Militaria to represent my love for the auxiliary system of said mod.
My favorite unit is wolf warriors from the suebi as they are ridiculously powerful if you use them right, they can win against any other infantry that’s not pikes, I’ve even seen them rape some oathsworn and praetorians.
Thracian Peltasts, Galtian Raiders, Armored Spears ( Getae), Dacian Heavy Skirmishers, Noble Shock Cavalry ( Getae) and above all, Illyrian Marines. Reasoning: Thracian peltasts and Galatian cavalry due to their looks and versatility, Armored spears because of their awesome looks and holding power ( for cheaper than chosen spears), Dacian Heavy Skirmishers for the same reason as Thracian peltasts, Noble shock cavalry because its the only shock cavalry avaivable to non-nomad barbarians and its power and Illyrian marines due to, once again, versatility and the fact that they are a far stronger version of thureos spears. Getae get bonus points for nostalgia, as it's my favorite faction and thus the most played. Edit: Let's fill out the list to ten! Pontic swordsmen, Thessalian Cavalry, Steppe Noble Lancers and Riders of the hunt. Pontic swordsmen due to their looks and role as semi-good infantry, Thessalian Cavalry due to cost effectiveness, Steppe Noble lancers due to being badass, and riders of the hunt due to being "the" mediocre cavalry.
Great video as always, my favorite unit would be the (Arverni) Naked Warrior, simply because it's a brutal unit, and your opponent know you're not joking around when you bring some of them on the field ! Wich unit wouldn't sh*t his pants when a 2meters mountain of naked Arverni muscles is runing at them screaming with a sword ? Haha
First would be my favorite the suebian beserkers they have a wild and crazy fighting style and scare everyone. Plus they look badass. Second would be the heroes of Sparta the best defensive unit in the game in my opinion. Three would be royal cataphracts because of their devastating charge and awesome look. Fourth would be the Roman pretorians because they are lethal any way you use them and are the best all around unit. Fifth is hard but gotta give it up to those elephants.
Yay, Carthage win the first place for once! My favourite units are simply armoured war elephant (Syrian variant when available) and scythed chariot simply because why not get the opposing army in a meat grinder? I will always remember my friend's reaction when a charge of armored elephant followed by scythed chariot broke his entire roman army in 10 seconds. God , i think my ears are still bleeding from his screams of anger.I may add the hellenic royal guard too (Epirus variant because i was playing them during the follow up battle) when he tried the same trick on me and he had his Indian armored elephants charge head on my pike line and most of his elephants died instantly.... both of us were confused for a moment. ^^'
+Purely0wnt I first started with a top 20, and they were in that one as well. There is just way too much to choose from. These guys are both insanely good and cool-looking as well. I agree!
My favorite unit is the royal spartans becouse I am a big fan of Sparta, but I like also almost every kind of pikemen becouse in my opinion they are the best unit for defence :)
X - Nervii Swordsmen IX - Greek Aspidophoroi Cavalry VIII - Dacian Tarabostes Cavalry VII - Athenian Epilektoi VI -Thraikan Rhomphaiaphoroi V - Boii Champions IV - Dacian Elite Falxmen III - Thraikan Chosen Pezoi II - Lusitanian Elite Scutarii I - Late Libyan Spearmen

Lord Rexasaur A sub goal? GET OUT!
+Total War Zone An arbitrary sub count? like 12,438?
Lord Rexasaur My sub goal is 11.636 at the moment. :P
I love berserkers and scythed chariots!
Catapheracts with horse archers are unbeatble
lol, not barbarian untis. My favourite units are:
10 - Scutarii
9 - Cimerian archers
8 - Cammel cataphracts and royal cataphracts
7 - Scythian 'Amazonian' Riders
6 - Thureos spears
5 - Illirian marines and Illirian thureos spears
4 - African pikemen
3 - Hastatii
2 - Balearic slinger
1 - Armoured Legionaries
+batelgroun Cool list. Armoured Legionaries are very cool as well.
@Zafonhan i have the very same favorite unit list, except instead of armoured, its Evocati cohort
Nice unit selection!
Here is mine:
1. Syrian Armoured Elephants
2. Silver Shield Pikemen
3. Hellenic Cataphracts
4. Armoured Legionaries
5. Thorax Swordsmen
6. Royal Peltasts
7. Aspis Companion Cavalry
8. Egyptian Infantry
9. Heavy Tower Octeres
10. Heavy Tower Hepteres
Mostly for the look :)
Btw, can you make a top of your favourite units in DEI? That would be amazing! :D
+Christian Dingkuhn Thanks a lot, I might do one for DeI as well actually. I see you piked some ships as well. The Egyptian Octeres ships are really cool!
my fav is armored legions lolz
Well it all depends honestly. It all depends on if I have support units or not. Swordsmen and cav then 1 would be pikes (preferably Spartan pikes because of the no loss in moral due to fall of the commander) but if no support units then they are too vulnerable without support or flank coverage. So:
1. Pikes (with support)
or 1. Pretorian Guards
2. Syrian archers
3. Thorax Swordsman (great pike flanking support btw)
4. Lusitani Nobles
5. Cataphracts (another great flanking support, obviously)
6. Triari (probably spelled it wrong) they are pretty good later on in the game against the solid cav armies of the nomads in my opinion
7. Oathsworn
8. Royal Peltasts
9. between Lusitani swordsmen and Carthagian hoplites (both are pretty decent for how quickly you get them and their upkeep)
10. Eastern spears (lol)
Germanic scout riders for sure. good javelins, not bad I melee, and very light so they can catch horse archers and decimate them
+TheKadgh I still remember the days when they were a shitty melee cavalry unit. They are so much better, and cooler now.
Scythian Royal Horse. Best bow cav and also decent in mêlée.
I like the light hoplites idk why they're just fun to play with
I personally love the legionaires from the extravaganza mod and from Veterans of Alesia. I also love hannibal's bodyguards but these are all mods
I love the companions
i like skirmish cav. very cheap, can do damage and can be meatshields vs better skirmishes cavalary like tarantines. they can bait heavier cav tho
Can you make top 5 best formations for auto resolving battles?
Its a long time since i played vanilla Rome II. I am using DeI all the time. Simply because its great! Since the unit variety is so great i couldnt pick a single unit. So i decided to pick the Batavian Cohors Militaria to represent my love for the auxiliary system of said mod.
+Jakob Schöning I play a lot of DeI as well. That is a fantastic unit and mod indeed. :)
Eagle Cohort, Sarissa Cav, Companion cav, Hastati, Dogs, Cimmearian horse archers
+Fish1167 All of those are cool as well. Dogs though? :P
+Total War Zone Molassian dogs spam is funny, they rek, especially when fully upgraded
you just earned a sub Dutch brother
+Like Supah :)
My favorite unit is wolf warriors from the suebi as they are ridiculously powerful if you use them right, they can win against any other infantry that’s not pikes, I’ve even seen them rape some oathsworn and praetorians.
Tharcian nobles have crazy melee attack
5. Armored Leigoners
4. Oathsworn
3. Greek Cataphracts
2. Heroes of Sparta(90 man unit)
1. Armored elephants
My favorite unit is Evocati Cohort
ROMA INVICTA!
Evocati, eagle, and first cohort are all amazing, They absolute dominate
I want to ask you something would you like to play a campaign as the seleucid empire plz
+Mahmoud Jen I already finished a campaign as the Seleucids. I'm not playing campaigns on my youtube channel though!
+Total War Zone ok thx
Noble Blood Cavalry! the most cost efficient melee cav unit and capable
1:royal piltas
..2)elite archers..3 )catapults..4)scorpions.. 5)elite swordsmen..6)strong pikemen
"impossible to break from the front" ..7)javelin horse...8)Archer horse..
Ellenic cataphracts, baktrian royal guard, colchyan noble hoplites (they look dope as fuck)
Top 10 favorite units in Attila. And please make more attila videos
+Napoleon films Yes, I will do that video really soon. And there is a new attila video coming tomorrow, and tuesday!
My favourite unit is with no doubt the Iceni's swordband which are capable for the price and good looking
+Legitime Dwop They are pretty cool indeed. I also like their paintings etc. Cool-looking unit.
10. Mercenary Scythian Horse Archers
9: Mercenary Saminite Warriors
8: Baktrian Noble Horse
7: Baktrian Royal Cav
6: Bloodsworn
5:Eastern Slingers
4: Levy Pikes
3:Scythian Noble Horse
2: Scythian Amazonian Riders
1: ARMOURED ELEPHANTS
+truc ho How could I forget the elephants..? Thanks for sharing!
Haha
+DyMass99 I'm glad you liked it! I like the naked warriors as an opponent, waiting to charge into my pike lines, haha.
+Total War Zone Wait, you mean that you shouldn't frontaly charge a pike line with naked warriors ?? All this time... i've been doing it wrong !
My favorite unit is the (Heavy) Armoured Legeneries!
Προτιμώ τους praetorian guard
Ba’al hammon be praised! For carthage
+Ben30001000 Good picks!
+Herrius Le Crabe Québécois Who doesn't like elephants right? :P
+Total War Zone I guess romans hate them. I don't think i hear happiness in their scream when i charge them.
Noble Thracian Warriors look great IMO and do great.
X - Nervii Swordsmen
IX - Greek Aspidophoroi Cavalry
VIII - Dacian Tarabostes Cavalry
VII - Athenian Epilektoi
VI -Thraikan Rhomphaiaphoroi
V - Boii Champions
IV - Dacian Elite Falxmen
III - Thraikan Chosen Pezoi
II - Lusitanian Elite Scutarii
I - Late Libyan Spearmen
+pepstev Nice list, thanks for sharing.
Club Levy
Galatian Royal Guard is my favourite!
They are a babarian unit but they're avaiable for egypt. In my opinion that's pretty nice !
P.S. sorry for my English
+Paul Lindorfer Yeah, they are pretty cool as well. In the early days this used to be the best sword unit in the game. :P
Royal Spartan, Heroes of Spartan, and Spartan Pikemen is the best for me.. preatonion guard (rome) too👍, and I think cariots from Egypt is very cool
