  • Another in the series looking at winter gear and this time a traditional winter riding glove in the form of the Zero 3 from British Manufacturer Knox.
    The Zero 3 has just been released and promises a lot. Do they make the grade?

    Thank you. I currently have some Richa winter gloves. They're OK but are quite stiff and leave a little to be desired for bar controls. They are a fifth of the price of these Knox ones but I think sometimes you need to invest. The way you rolled up these Zero 3's shows how supple they look. I think I will invest, come pay day. Thanks for the upload.

      No problem, yep not always but mostly it is a case of you get what you pay for. I was suprised just how soft they were.

    I do like these gloves. This is the second winter of use ( not warm on cold days ) already have an hole on the inside lining index finger left hand which is disappointing that's why ☆☆☆ stars.

    Nice one Tony, E'vent excellent stuff just hope it survives sweaty mitts long term. Impressive armour system and primaloft works too! Any chance of persuading Motolegends to review the warm n safe gear, particularly the inner gloves?

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  5 років тому

      Thank you Sir, hope you're well? A great question, between the two i'd pick the Zero 3 gloves. Largely because in the winter i ride a bike with heated grips and handguards. The keis liners are nice and warm, but i found them a bit bulky and fitting them into gloves i already own was a problem. Having said that although I got used to it, I still wasn't overly keen on the thickness of the palm on the Zero 3. But it was something I could put up with for warm mitts on long journeys. I'm hoping to be testing a pair of heated external gloves soon too

    Thanks for the very thorough review. Can I ask whether the touchscreen pads work reliably (they don't always with thick winter gloves)? By the way, I've read some reviews that say the lining does come out.

    • @mancavemoto

      They were pretty good, not perfect but usually dependable. I didn’t experience any problems with the lining

    Those are lovely looking gloves, almost a sporty look but for the winter time. Once my Triumph Warwick gloves I received for CHristmas die, these will be immediately shipped to me. Do you think there are any features potentially missing from the glove? I personally would have liked to have seen some kind of visor wipe, especially for winter gloves, and rather than reinventing velcro, I think they should have just used a Boa lace instead; however, I'm not lucky enough to be able to own a pair, so I'll have to leave it up to you, Tony

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  5 років тому

      Thanks, There is a visor wipe on the left thumb (3:11) and the Boa system is good but i like this ‘lift & lock’ idea, really simple but effective, neater too perhaps?

    Probably Gortex take a big cut of the profit? I noticed someone said on another video he has a pair and got cold hands after 15min city riding in just 12c!
    For over $200Aus I want something that can take me 5hrs away and warm hands at the end, with batteries in the gloves! 😄 Can anyone confirm will these go the distance???

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  3 роки тому

      There's no Goretex in the gloves, Everyone has different tolerances I guess, but at 12C I can't see how someone's hands could be cold in these, unless they were way too tight and restricting good blood flow? If its a worry then i reviewed some decent heated gloves from both KEIS and RST

  • @BN1960
    @BN1960 5 років тому

    Nice review Tony
    What do Knox say about how they work with heated grips in the wet - some gloves with a Goretex liner can actually make your hands wet since the membrane effectively works in reverse when heat is on the "wrong" side e.g. the outside not from your hands on the inside.
    Cheers

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  5 років тому +1

      Interesting point, and from what I can find out eVent is a different construction to Goretex. Goretex uses a PU layer and this second layer that absorbs the sweat. eVent is single layer ie 'direct venting' so it's more breathable than Goretex. However the PU layer in Goretex does add some insulation, so eVent on its own wouldn't retain the heat, hence the Primaloft. So in answer to your question, it may be the lack of the PU membrane that means these gloves wouldn't suffer from that reverse transfer issue? but i'd need to speak to the tech boffins to confirm it

    Been waiting for Knox to release for ages. I needed a pair glove so picked up the Knox Zero 2 before Christmas.
    So I guess the big Question is. Are they worth the money on upgrading to the Zero 3 or just stay with the previous Zero 2 model? tbh I really liked the original Zero model with the Boa lacing system
