Kid on the left is named Francis Murphy. He went on to be one of England's most prolific serial killers of all time. He would remove the faces of women creating a terrifying tapestry of female human facial skin over a period of 53 years. At the age of 61 he confessed on his death bed. He was never caught and people only connected him to the murders through his last words with the help of Scotland Yards investigation team. He was known as The Face Collector. It's believed he removed the young women's faces while they were still alive however heavily sedated as to not ruin his work. Some women actually came to, faceless and bleeding profusely. They never lived long after the removal. A few lived for a few weeks and then succumbed to infection.

I see a full blown "ham", which at his young age and the rarity of motion picture cameras at the time, make him quite a rarity... He's posing, hoping the camera will get his "good side". Without a doubt, the first time the majority of these kids and people had ever seen a motion picture camera. Hopefully he was given the information, and could scrape together the nickel it cost to go see this when it was played in his local area.
Very often the people were told where they could later "See themselves in a movie", once the film was ready, a few weeks or month later.
You have to remember, people had never seen themselves on film, moving about and such. Most all of the kids and even adults, had probably never had their photograph taken, since it was expensive, and usually only those with extra money could afford something as trivial as a photograph in those days.
So it was quite an event when the early cameras set up and filmed street scenes. It wasn't until recently that I was able to find out that many of the photographers, and the companies representing them, would give an airing date of the film usually about a month later, and five the people a chance to see if they were actually filmed or not!
I can just imagine the shouts of excitement by people watching, as they saw themselves for a brief moment! 🙂🙂🙂

@@dntakemesrsdoesn’t invalidate their point. And to an extent, they are more aware than the z generation of tik tok woke types. We millennials (and older, of course, older would understand more) at least can relate to the way of life then; imagine it; respect it.
I’m 30. As an elementary school kid, cellphones and mobile devices were entirely a non-aspect of our lives. In 4th and 5th grade - at an age of more “mature” thinking for a child, but still a dopamine-chasing kiddo nonetheless - we still called were mostly physical in the way we had fun with friends. The concept of a 5 hour mic’d up Xbox Live sesh, where you interact digitally instead of in person, was totally foreign. Even the less athletic, more videogamer type kids like myself weren’t ALWAYS hooked up to a device of some sort. We were walking to a 7/11 with the money we got from dad, riding bikes to the park, running away from some dude in the distance at the park we pretended was a serial killer, shooting hoops, rough housing, etc.
We were disciplined harshly by our fathers. I was expected to ride a bike by a certain age or face spankings. I was working by 15 and full-time by high school graduation.
Not that some of today’s kids don’t still work hard. And not that my generation isn’t full of lazy bums who WERE playing computer games 24/7 even IN the early 2000s.
But in general, my point is… each generation gets cushier and cushier. With each new generation that arises, we separate ourselves further from the hardships of the early 1900s. And thus there is less understanding or respect for what they went through.
I’m constipated, physically uncomfortable, bloated, and stoned (to deal with the symptoms). So forgive the unnecessary megapost.

Ephesians‬ ‭6:10‭-‬18‬ ‭Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. The bible is no old book. You have to really let Christ open your eyes; to see the world in shambles. Many people say it's a religion to lock up people in chains, and say it's a rule book.. why? Because people hate hearing the truth, it hurts their flesh, it's hurts their pride, it's exposes on what things have they done..people love this world so much, s*x, money, power, women, supercars.. things of this world. Still trying to find something that can fill that emptiness in your heart. You can't find that in this world.. only in Christ, the bible is no chains, it's a chainbreaker. Breaking your sins into pieces... Repent now, and turn back to the true Lord only.. God bless.😊😊😊

Just so bleak to look at their optimistic youth. Did either die of gas, in the trenches, or years later, lying in bleak rooms in poverty, maybe with children to be orphaned?
Maybe machine gunned as they climbed out of trenches.
Maybe they lived to see the Xmas football match truce?
Did either live to volunteer to watch rooftops, in WW2 bombings?

@sirargz_ better would be a relative term I suppose. People had bigger things to worry about, live for. People had work ethic. People had to. People had morals and values. Today we have decayed into what you see today. We are teaching children to be confused as to what they are. Who they are from birth and that's the norm. We have the greatest access to information and more educated yet we have become the land of confusion.
There were no single family homes.
There were no junkies on the streets with needles hanging out of their arms.
      To answer your question.
They worked for everything they had.
To answer your question. Absolutely yes it was better

It obvious that these kids didn’t have it easy, they probably had to work at some factory all day long.

The very definition of young men. Poor lads probably had to go home and take care of the rest of their family after as well. Absolute units they were.
