  • Mike Watts compares 3 different compressors
The LiN 76 has been carefully designed to recreate the timbres of nuances of vintage-era ‘76-style FET compressors.
The most classic and respected sounds of dynamic processors live on in the LiN 76, as well as the infamous “all-button” mode made famous by British recording engineers throughout the 1970’s - a sound that’s still popular today.
    - The Lindell LiN 76: instant vibe for today’s demanding studios.
    - Instant vintage-vibe dynamics processing
    - USA-made transformers
    - 4:1, 8:1, 12:1, 20:1, and “All-button” compression ratio modes
    - Vintage-style VU for monitoring
    - Variable attack and release times, with ultra-fast attack options
    - Balanced input and output
    Features:
    - Attack: Continuously variable 20uS to 800uS
    - Release: Continuously variable 50mS to 1200mS
    - Ratio: Pushbutton selected 4:1, 8:1, 12:1, 20:1 and any combination
    - Voltage: 12VAC
    - AC Mains Input: 100V-240V depending on supplied
    - Width: 438mm (19”)

Thanks for this demo, I just purchased the lin76 on discount here in Oz for $500. Such a bargain if it gets that close to the real thing. Can't wait to put it through its paces.

I definitely heard a tighter low end on the UREI. It got bigger but didn’t get woofy. The others all got a little woofy on the kick but it got slightly better as you went from the Warm to the KT to the Lindell.

I have the Warm Audio bus compressor and I find it very aggressive also. It must be a signature of Warm Audio.

At 14:42 The warm audio on guitar has crackling like distortion during the “big open” chord! Yuck.
    The others don’t! Very interesting

Can't wait for an LIN2A optical compressor to come out so I can chain it to this LIN76

Any recommendations on a stereo 1U compressor for a home studio? Something better than ART but not as expensive as the Drawmer stuff at 1700 plus. Not specifically a bus compressor as it would be nice to use each channel independently as well.

Great vid! The LIN76 definitely does sound the closest the original. I think the Warm is kinda harsh on the upper mid harmonics. Would be very helpful to see labels put on the screen when each one is playing. I would like to mention the the Hairball 1176 clones are also very nice. Thanks for the very thorough shootout!

How is the noise level on Lindell compared to Klark and Warm?

I have heard some say the release time is slow compared to the Urei. Is that a fair assessment?

The Urei is DEFINITELY NOT worth 6 thousand dollars more than the Lindell. No thanks, I'll take the Lindell. Thanks for the shoot-out

Hilariously, Lindell Audio is deleting objective comments under the same video but on their channel.
I said that original 1176 still sounds the best, then followed by Warm Audio, then Lindell Audio, and then by Klark Teknik.
They deleted my comment in less than a day.
Objectively no compressor out of 4 in my opinion compares to low end compression of original 1176, but Warm Audio sounds very unique in its' own way, just that it compressed mids and upper register way more, but bottom is not so good as 1176 (original).
Lindell is doing a disservice by removing comments like mine.
Clearly, I still want 2 of them, but let's not make it as Lindell Lin76 is better than Warm Audio or original 1176.
Pushing sales is what they do.

I was going to buy my first compressor and liked the Klark, it's only $350 on sweetwater. I pretty much had my mind made up, then I remembered the Lin76 is only $50 more so I thought to find a side by side comparison. But this video is obviously designed to persuade people to not buy the Klark as it's a similar price to the Lindell.
During the vocals he says the Klark loses focus and edge. For an engineer to be unable to articulate what he hears is an odd thing. It's essentially saying
"1176 compressors bring vocals to the top of a mix and give them presence, except for the Klark, that one doesn't and I can't tell you why."
I am still considering the Lin76 even if they have aggressive marketing strategies.
