My maternal granny, Thalia Norcross, was the person through whom we are related to Emily. Mom was Jana Vee Norcross. I'm a new writer, starting my literary career at 73.
This is like diving deep into the life and era of Emily Dickinson. The way she lived and wrote, is an inspiration to poets. Thanks for this Video, Paul.
I've found a great translation of "Hope" - Esperança in Portuguese by Adalberto Müller. There may be even better ones, I am not really into poetry, but I was impressed by both the original and the translation.
Emily Dickinson has such a unique voice and way of talking about the deep, interior things of life. The film “A Quiet Passion” starring Cynthia Nixon as Dixon and Julie Harris’ marvelous one woman show “The Belle of Amherst” show Dickinson in ways that make her poetry speak and come alive.
Oh it would be a replica. A dress from that era would become moldy or even rot from exposure to the air. i don't think the narrator (Julie Harris) would sit that close to the original dress either.
Rare, mysterious, weird , recluse. Ignorant blasphemy against a great poet. Rejected by an obtuse editor at the Springfield Republican newspaper who told her she could not write.
I don't understand why Lyndall Gordon's theory that Emily Dickinson was epileptic, set out in Gordon's 2010 bio of Emily, "Life Like Loaded Guns," isn't given more--or any--consideration in discussions of Emily's behavior and personality, especially later in her life, when she became reclusive.
Speculation about her behavior and life is ongoing. There's much more theory than fact. I read Ms. Gordon's book and found her theory interesting and persuasive; but I have waited in vain to hear or read any mention of it. So here we are. Edit: Dr. Graeme Yorston, a neuropsychiatrist, has a UA-cam channel in which he discusses the possible medical and mental health issues of famous people, many of them in the arts, and he has a video on Emily. He said unequivocally that ED was not epileptic and that Lyndall Gordon misread the medical records she made reference to in her book.

Wonderful! Good luck!

My thoughts exactly. Much welcome
Oh this is delightful. I'm so so happy to find your channel. Thank you!
Julie Harris is the best person to represent the voice of Emily. Her recordings of the poems are the finest.
Yes, I complete!y agree!
So happy to have discovered this wonderful channel
What a wonderful line, - "I'm out with lanterns, looking for myself". Thank you Ms. Dickinson.
At times i felt as I am listening to Emily Dickinson standing beside me....... Incredible Julie.
Julie Harris is wonderful beyond words.
What a beautiful dedication to a remarkable person.
Genuinely moving ~ thank you, as ever 🌿
I am one of her translator in Colombia
ha...that must be challenging.

Well done. Thank you.

Thank you for the film & show recommendations.
Ps., for anyone reading these comments: i see ‘the Belle of Amherst’ is available in two parts on UA-cam 🍃
Cynthia whatever her name A quiet Passion truly awful
I like Cynthia Nixon, however, felt the protrayal was cold. JMHO.
My favorite poetess
Mine too. I take her poëms travelling. So wunderly deep 🤌👋.
What a great mind, a favorite 📚
WOW,I LOVE IT.
the audio in the beggining is mabel?
There is a fact that intrigues me,
Is the white dress that hangs in Emily's room, is it the same dress that she wore,
I mean, it's not a replica?

She is a mother to me

Probably, because it's only a theory, not fact.

Her world was an interior one. She barely practiced interacting with others, not making her a mental case
Do you have something to say on the matter?
Nice
This is totally bullshit. She had friends all over the world.
'She kept up a huge correspondence with friends.' @25:00
What part exactly did you find to be untrue? 🤔
Wasn't master what she called her sister- in- law
I see it that way.
I am not generally a lover of poetry--
JESUS IS LORD.🙏😇✝️💛💚💙💚💛
Amen
