- The global travel restrictions imposed because of the Covid pandemic has left many portraitists and painters of the legendary Place du Tertre struggling to survive. In spite of the dire situation, The town council is pushing ahead with plans to re-organize the artists' square, reducing the number of authorized artists and revising selection methods. The restaurants have over-run the little square, leaving painters literally working in the gutters. With their backs to the wall the artists have now raised funds to hire legal aid.

Force to the artist! I'm a Brazilian caricaturist and now I'm working painting walls to survive. I wish the best for you french brothers. my dream is one day go to this place. God bless.
Thank you.Hope to see you someday! In the mean time stay safe.We are aware of the suffering your country is going through because of this terrible virus and we pray for you.
Thanks for sharing this. I miss your videos. Always inspiring to watch others draw especially the talented ones at Place Du Tertre.
Thank you for your positive feedback.I am working on a new series of videos. From mid May2021 I will be uploading new material.
People don't go to Place du Tertre to eat, they go there to see you, the artists, responsible parties should realize that. Hope things get better for you soon and hope to visit that beautiful Place again someday. Greetings from Georgia ❤
Thank you for your encouragement and support Nino. Hope to see you someday soon!
saludos desde Perú, no dejes de publicar video por favor...nos llena el alma con tanto arte!
Gracias. Esté atento a la nueva serie de videos de mediados de mayo.
I have never been to Place du Tertre before, but is my dream to go there to meet you and the other artists. I regularly watch your videos to learn as much as I can and feel inspired as well. I feel sad because the artists there are having a tough time due to the pandemic and the new policies, I hope and pray that things would get better for you all.
Thank you for your kind words.Rest assured, there will always a Place du Tertre, no matter what..and there will always be artists there to greet you if you do visit us one day.In the meantime best wishes to you and stay safe.
Woahh what a supreme pleasure to hear you again
Thanks, there hasn't been much action at Montmartre for some time for obvious reasons. I really hope things get back to normal soon. From mid May I will start uploading videos again, even if it means using old footage.
In this time of crisis watching this is quite calming.
Could you please make a few long videos on Gabor gozon and stephane plouviez
Watching them at work is almost therapeutic. 1 more video featuring Mr. Gozon would be a grand thing to watch
I have a video of Stephane Plouviez almost ready. Will have to check old hard drives for Gabor's work. When the tourists come back I will be trying to film the best artists whenever I can.
It would be wonderful to get monthly updates from/about the artists who used to work and sell at Place du Tertre but are unable to do so during the pandemic! We worry about them! 🌼
The worst of the pandemic seems to be behind us now. It has been a difficult time. We hope that in 2022 artistic life at Montmartre will return to normal. I will try to keep everyone updated on events as they evolve. After a re-organisation of work spaces, new authorizations are now being distributed to the chosen artists.
@@DavyLimvideos Glad to hear that things are getting better! 🌼 Is there information online (or accessible outside Paris) for the artist representatives snd/or Jerome?
I’m collecting screencaps of artists from archival films - most of them beginning around 1960 - in the attempt to identify and celebrate the artists’ history of Place du Tertre. There’s very little online info (esp in English - I’m learning French, but it takes time) about the details of Place du Tertre, and I hope to remedy that as well as support the artists. 🌼
@@Julesong I am on vacation right now, but I will try to get you Jerome's email when I return to work.
@@DavyLimvideos Davy, thank you! After some digging yesterday I was able to unearth Jerome’s full name and what I think is his email address, so I’ll try that one first. I’ll keep you updated on my research progress. 🌼 Other representatives’ info and contact details - and any obscure UA-cam vids which speak to Place du Tertre history (esp any that cover years before 1960) would be great, thanks!
PS: I’d link my research playlist so you can see the videos I’ve discovered so far, but I suspect that’s against the rules. But I’m happy to share it with you.
@@Julesong This is from the early 70's. Hope it is of help.

I can't really give you personal info publicly unless the artists concerned agree to that.
Davy, you have been greatly missed in youtube. I visited Paris about 5 years ago, greatly wishing to meet you and ask for a portrait. Unfortunately you were not there that day. At least not at that time of day. Unfortunately I didn’t see any of the other amazing artists you have also featured in your channel throughout the years. I was especially interested in seeing Christos, Hamid, Svay Teng or some of the other pastel masters. I really only saw a couple of caricaturists there that day. I guess I timed it wrong. I had lunch at the Place at noon and waited for about two and a half hours before my wife got bored of waiting. I planned that 2 day stop in Paris only for 2 reasons: The Louvre and the artists of place du tertre. Seriously. I hold street working figurative artists very warmly in my heart. I spent an entire 10 hours at the Louvre the first day, the next morning sight-seeing and the afternoon was meant to be for Place du tertre. Next time I visit will be in about 2 years. I’ll book an entire day just to hang out there and get our portraits done. I wish you all the best and hope to be able to contribute to the survival of this wonderful place in whatever small way I can. Blessings.
Thank you for your kind words. You were very unlucky to choose a day when the square was deserted. The artists you mentioned are rarely absent during the summer months.None of us can afford to go AWOL in peak season. It goes without saying that the pandemic has caused great financial hardship for many artists. The unfair distribution of space between the artists and the restaurants is an ongoing problem but in spite of this I think you will still find us all here in two or three years when you make your next visit, and of course you will be very welcome! In the meantime, stay safe..
I visited Plasce du Tertre last summer in july an got a portrait from you mr Davy. And yes, that restaurant was terribly placed, i should got removed.
Yes Marius in the summer months when there are big crowds the artists simply don't have enough space. What people don't know is that the individual Im2 spaces accorded to artists are SHARED.There are 2 artists to each pitch. In principle we are supposed to work to a system of one day on one day off. This is completely unrealistic;in the summer everyone has to work every day.I am lucky because my "partner" likes to work in the evenings and I prefer to work in daylight. The restaurants take up something like 80%of the available space at the place du Tertre. It is now almost impossible to re-partition the space.Semi permanent "cages"are now used by the restaurants for their terrace space. They have deep pockets,(lots of money) and they also have most of the politicians in their pockets. Thanks for your comment.
It's the same old story. I am a professional artist in America. To my way of thinking, politics and the capitalist motivation are fairly alien to the average artist. This is an old dilemma
held over from the end of traditional art & "Art Guilds". In this modern era we artists need to learn from others before us seeking a livable "wage" - UNIONS. We need an international Brother & Sisterhood of members for the power of solidarity. handled by professionals in collective bargaining and the like. Rick&Morgan
Hi Richard, I absolutely agree. Whether your proposals are realistic is another matter. Artists tend to be egotistic. Even in a small place like this in Montmartre unity is very difficult to achieve. I think most artists have now accepted the reorganization of the artist's square as a relative success because in the end no portraits or painters lost their authorizations.
Do you know maybe how to find an artist from this Place du Tertre? I only have a photo of his paintings
It should be possible for me to identify the artist (painter or portraitist) if you have a photo of his/her work. Contact me

Hi Davy, thanks for sharing the videos. I have sent email through your website and I really hope you received it. I’m not in France, trying to find an artist in Paris. You might have a contacts. Could you help me please?
New order. Prepare your future.
God I hope not
New order? Same old system..even more powerful than before the pandemic.
@@DavyLimvideos we will see about that.
