Punk is a state of mind an attitude to life. It just manifest itself differently through life. I'm all grown up but I still have the punk approach to life. Thank you for sharing another cool project!
Exactly. It's not a fashion or pop culture trend, as some may think.
As am I. I was pissed off in 80 and I’m still pissed off now.
@@daveduffy2823 Older and wiser, I think I'm a little more pissed off these days. I just have more control over my emotions and channel my anger in hopefully a more beneficial and positive way.
@@daveduffy2823 Yeah, that's true. But the reasons for being pissed of are more informed and directed at more relevant problems. At least for me.
That sounds very immature....Grow up punk
These guitars are beautiful, man. Punk is in the heart and soul, brother.
I had a grin on my face from start to end of the video. I always thought what you do and how you build these guitars was so cool, and now to learn about your Punk Rock history is even cooler man. I spent my teen years in high school discovering Punk Rock and that was a few years ago now. Doesn't matter if it's decades ago or today though, I think there'll always be a young interest in Punk, and I'm real proud I got into the music. I live by its ethics and I'll carry them on for as long as I hopefully can. I'm still trying to get my career sorted out (while trying to maintain those same Punk ethics lol), but I've dreamed of being able to work with music. Got no solid plan right now, but you can bet I have a notebook full of sketches of guitars and unique body designs that I'd love to one day see in real life. Maybe if I get my hands on some tools and a knowledgeable buddy to help me out, I can make a little Tim Sway guitar of my own lol. You're an inspiration man, keep on doing what you're doing.
Awesome man. Keep fighting the good fight and blazing your own path. It takes a lot of work, skipped meals and stubbornness to constantly swim upstream, but it's enjoyable because you're doing what you want to do!
Once you've learned a fourth chord it's never the same, right? Much love brother! You brought a year to my eye with this one. Nice shredding, great video, best rockabilly sing ever about punk rock, and this axe looks amazing. Have a great week! See ya over on Instagram!
cheers! Punk rock never dies, we just get old and slow and start playing rockabilly instead :)
I'm f'ing in love with this guitar.
Cheers Tim. Just beginning my first builds from recovered fenceposts so you're definitely an inspiration. Enjoyed the punk nostalgia.
I was smiling all the way through the video. Excellent work.
Awesome
First songs I learned on the bass were Misfits songs. I noticed the stage right 15 watt amp, killer cheap amp, I own that one and it's 5 watt little brother. Awesome guitar and channel. You inspired me to convert my old acoustic bass into a hollow body with old vinyl record pickguard and all. Keep fighting the system!
I think that was my first video! thanks for the kind words
I can't play, but I likes me some good old Punk every now and then. You win today, Tim, you built, you composed, you filmed, you played. That's pretty awesome.
ha! thanks. I listen to a lot of punk while I work and one day it dawned on me that I'm still the same kid trying to make art in my parent's basement just with a lot more grey hair and tools now!
Similar... Listen to old music, but the ideas don't always resonate the same: I don't really want to be sedated but I still enjoy "I wanna be sedated". ;-)
I grew up in Sunderland where the Toy Dolls came from and they changed my life singing punk songs about my town! Fisticuffs in Frederick street is an anthem of my youth
Was Deirdre really a slag?
Totally impressed! Creativity, craftmanship, and challenge. Amazing!
The composition!!! just amazing! And the build! Wow! we must invent other words to describe it!! It's art! Really original
thank you!!
Man I really love your backing song, kudos to you sir.
You should upload it just as a song, I've played this video several times just to listen to the song.
I got chills watching this video! I'm becoming an old punk myself. I used to try to build my guitars more then actually play them, punk rock is my religion!
"I heard GBH, I made a decision..." :)
Rancid is my one true love.
As @funkysod says below... it's a state of mind! Yeah, I'm an all-growed up ex-punk rocker of 60 years' cycles (in dendrochronological terms... or whatever the young folks are calling it these days. And I echo @FuggBitt's comments (below) - I too had a big grin hearing this! Excellent demo in itself but the song is just superb!!! When ARE you going to do that album, mate? 🙂
great work, as always...
That's some hard work!!! I've done a guitar just from wood found on the streets..... the neck is made out of laminated bed slats.... your neck is not made out of the pallet?
I know that the laser is the sponsor.. but that's the only part of the build i did'nt like so mutch....
Anyhow, great work!
Love that tool for removing nails.... just awesome!
Honestly, I love the rawness of that guitar, awesome!
thanks! that's kind of my vibe as a guitar maker. newperspectivesmusic.com
I liked the one you built with Jackman also great work. Thank you.
You even made the song?!
Where is your limit damn...
I think this video cements Tim Sway as my favorite UA-cam channel!
Awww, thanks mom! :)
Another great one Tim, love it when you do the music also!
thank you!!
This is my favorite video of yours! Love the guitar and the song. Punk is not junk.
thanks man!
I discovered your channel last week, your videos totally inspire me! You actually inspired me so much that it only took three days that i started building my own bass guitar body. Now i found out that we have the same taste in music, and i don't think it's a coincidence, i am a DIY-guy too.... I always say:
"Everyone likes punk, those who don't just haven't discovered it yet!"
Greetings from Germany!
Awesome man! We are not alone!
I miss the scene and tapes and zines. I brought all that DIY ethic to the bands I worked with in the 1990s. What a blast! I'm watching. Psyched!!!
I'm 71 yrs old .... and punk rock wasn't really my thing... But , I know creativity and good thing when I see it. Brother you got the magic !!! Pretty good song writing too !!♡!!
Hey, thanks man! I think the message of the song is relatable to all who have aged and had their youthful angst and civil disobedience change with them.
Love this video , especially the little intro
thank you!
tim sway thank you
I’m a joiner by my trade and I really admire what you do in you’re video blogs. Great work and beautiful guitars. 👍
Love the song!
Absolutely love this guitar!!! The song is awesome too. Great job Tim!
thanks!
That's quite a unique comfort cut on that axe with the green P-90s.
It's all about the reverse grain direction in the middle layer. had to show it off :)
I really enjoyed this video and the work you do!
Fantastic work Tim!
Nice guitars!!!! I like the mohawk guy in front and the things you put on the back of the guitar.. Awesome!!!
thanks!
Another great build Tim, I loved it!
thanks man!
@@timsway You're welcome, and you're right - Punk isn't dead, our butts just got a bit bigger and therefore harder to get off the couch! 😁
I liked the video, but not because I'm part of the system.
Hahaha
Fuck the system!
These pallet guitars always look amazing
good stuff !, great to see creative people !, real talented on the guitar builds!, keep up the good work !, hello from new haven, Connecticut !
cheers from Meriden! Go see The Ratz in New Haven, Jeffrey Thunders plays one of my guitars.
i consider all tims to be in our own club, hence tim of clubs. welcome.
Go man go! I know that’s not a punk saying... but I like it. Go man go!! 👍🏼🎵🎶🎵🎶‼️
Great video Tim, really enjoyed it very much
thanks Paul
That back of the guitar at 5:23 Love it! Keep punk alive!

I’ve watched a few episodes thanks to yt recommendations, but this was the one that got me to subscribe. Laughing is as important as learning. Thanks.
laughing?! It's a true story! LOL :)
It was positive. The song was awesome and there were some other little unexpected things.
@@joeii3ol I know, i was just having fun. Thank you for the kind words.
I'm 45, married, one daughter and still punk state of mind.
Thank you for this video..
Drummer speaking.
stellar build tim as always
your guitars are rad, absolutely amazing.
thank you!
Truly awesome! Punk always has its place too! :)
Truely something special your gift is. Love it.
Thanks Yoda! :)
Re-watching in 2021, such a great video, thanks🤘
I grew up on punk and am still playing it \m/
wow! 2 thumbs up to you sir! punk rock all the way...also grew up listening to punk... now i have my own band and we are still doing what we want to do!!!!
Sweet!! Gotta love it! These pallets guitars are on point! Cant wait for the vids with basic tools!!
Great stuff! Awesome song!
The pleasure is always ours, Tim.
YOU'RE THE BEST TIM
Loved this channel more
Love everything about this video!
Never give in. When I feel tired I play : Clash, Ramones, Pistols. That does the trick. Project guitar necks and hardware are so cheap now and gooood. No such thing as can't. Superb Channel, Sir. Punk regards from UK. :-) :-)
Lordy, gotta love that pallet wood tone! Unbelievable!
Wait a minute......??
Haha!
Great job as always, Tim
OMG... I love Dead Kennedys, Bad Religion and the whole rest... Punk is a big part of my life since 25 years. I know that u are on the "right" or the sunny side! Thanks for your videos! Rolling rolling rolling, keep the donuts rolling..... ohoooooooooo
Love the song, love the guitars! The Gilman St special is my favorite. 😎 Thanks for sharing!
thank you! That's my fav, too, although I haven't finished the "sticker" one yet...
Punk still lives in my mind, luv it
Good stuff Tim
Great video Tim
thank you!
I love the feeling the song you wrote captures. It's a feeling of resignation, of nihilism and of having become old or a Spießer (German word for something I can't express in English). A feeling that I feel even though I haven't even seen my years as a young adult yet. Which makes me sad. I feel like my youth ended before I ever had one and I wish I knew how to get one.
As for punk rock: the ethic of diy really appeals to me. Lately and because of my fandom of Rammstein, I have been informing myself about punk bands in the GDR, Feeling B to be precise. And even though Feeling B were a fun-punk band and often not seen as real punks by other punks, I think that not giving a frick about appealing to the punk scene made them punk af. Usually, they weren't particularly against the political system of the GDR, but their guitarist said in an interview that when lyrics were against the system, they'd just sing it in English and the people from the agency for "state security" (it was more for spying on their own people) wouldn't be able to do anything because they didn't understand English. Another aspect of their punkness I appreciate is how they didn't give a damn about in order to officially be allowed to work as a musician, they would need to study music, they just made music anyway. And the quality of their shows was... on a new level. When you look down the quality scale looking for new levels. Basically, they'd get REALLY drunk.
But I digress. My point is that I wish I had such an adventurous youth. And that I wish I played punk rock guitar. Well, that I just wouldn't give a fuck and were a cool person.
..whoa! Did you say Palletcaster? Cool Tim, very cool.
ha! I didn't actually say it because others use that term. When Fender starts adding "Sway" to their model names, I'll add "caster" to mine :) lol. I did say "partscaster" tho #sellout
Call it "the joe strummer"!!!!
Hey man, could you do a step-by-step video of the construction of a guitar neck (including the soul and the frets) please !!! your videos are very useful and great
I made this about a year ago: ua-cam.com/video/fPBYMOaCmuI/v-deo.html
@@timsway amazing!!!!!!!!!!! thanks from argentina!!!
This one sounded great!
Thunder Laser, now thats a name to remember
haha! yea it is. They're great people.
Riddle me this - what kind of punk takes a corporate sponsorship?
The answer must be, the kind who truly doesn't give a h*ck, including about what other punks think.
And that's true punk right there.
h*ck? What the goddamned fuck does that mean?
RESPECT
META
I'm JUST WAITING for someone to say that so I can explain why me contacting companies and convincing them to give me free shit n exchange for art is way more punk than getting a job, earning money and buying it... :)
haha! You'll never catch me uttering that vile profanity out loud!
We all have some punk rock in us. Awesome guitar
and if we don't we should :)
I think these look and sound awesome!
thank you!
TIM... Just HAD to make a further comment after I heard the end of the song - that is SUCH a superb track - and that ending (to anyone who remembers the Sex Pistols, Clash et al) says it all. Man... you have GOT to do an album!!!!
I appreciate the support. I do sell some of these songs at NewPerspectivesMusic.com as $1 downloads (both this one and the neighborhood song are there). I do NOT have them available anywhere else, spotify, etc., becasue I'm a true punk rocker and f--k those guys :) I'd rather sell 10 downloads for $10 than stream it 10,000,000 times for the same $10that facilitates them making $1,000...
oh, I also did a live radio show and interview recently, played 5 or 6 songs: ua-cam.com/video/jcUMKe4ZV2s/v-deo.html
This is one of my favorite videos of yours. Are you familiar with Elephant 6 recording company?
Thanks! I know very little about them.
Digging this style of video, nice work!
thank you!
The punk in me me still surfaces every now and then lol...God I miss those days.
Sir Timlahad! Hey brother!
How the hell did I miss this episode?
I used to think Punk was a genera for bands that couldn't play! LOL! Mostly after seeing and hearing Sid Vicious play bass! HE WAS KEEEERAP! In my humble, yet completely, 100% bang on opinion!!
It took a while, but after I heard more and more Punk, with bands that could actually play, I came to appreciate...still, not a fan!
I am fiddy seven (as those meddling kids with their transistor radios and pogo sticks say) so I grew up listening to music blasting from my two sister's basement bedroom. They're 16 and 17 years older than me, so I heard a LOT of awesome stuff from the likes of Dionne and the Belmonts, the Everly brothers, and many many more great bands.
Then the world of rock exploded with the British explosion and I fell in love with Beatles, Who, Jerry and the Pacemakers, Bad Finger, Stolling Rones etc. I also love Motown, Dylan, Allman Bros, I'm a huge "The Band" fan. I also loved the Staple singers, with Pop Staples and his daughters. Did you know Dylan asked Mavis Staples to marry him? Ya, she shot him down! LOL!!
I'm assuming you played all the instruments on this awesome tune! You're incredibly versatile and talented Tim!!
I love the sound/tone of that bass, it reminds me of Macca's Hoefner bass. Your production is freaking wicked also!!
I guess what I'm saying is, well, you make me sick! LOL!! KIDDING!
Take care Timbro! Keep your stick on the ice aye!
Jack -Canada
cheers! Yea it's true simple forms of music attract simple players, but for the most part, punk music is about a message more than technique. There are good and bad bands in every genre. Agreed Sid Vicious was no virtuoso but their band and message changed the world and in a positive way - a lot more than your average guitar hero ever did!
Yes I played every part on this recording, the bass is a fully restored 1927 Czech upright bass worth more than most cars I've owned - it should sound BETTER than a hofner bass! lol
great song and build!
thanks!
La verdad cada vez mejor. Hermosas obras de arte, mis cordiales Saludos como siempre.
With you. I was part of it in the 70s here in the UK. It was anarchy! ;)
nice, I was more second-wave by age (late 80s/90s) but my preferred listening will always be The Clash :)
Thanks for this video!! So awesome!!!
Opp ivy now you’re bring back memories
I still listen to that album like once a week! never stopped!
"Punk rock changed our lives" - D. Boon
"Bob Dylan wrote propaganda songs." - D. Boon :)
I love the look of your guitars👍👍👍
thank you!
Partscasters ok cool Tim especially at inside of a c note build budget have a great day
Cool! I Loved the video and the song. Quite a lot, actually.
thanks man!
Nicely done!! Punk for life.
love your work!
thank you!
Awesome Tim! I am a drummer and I play punk hardcore guitar on my DIY tube amps using DIY pedals lol
nice!
That was a really good song... I want it!
Great musical instrument!
Awesome. You make this look to easy with the CNC machine
cheers! the cnc definitely makes it easier, once you learn how to use the cnc - which was not as easy! lol. I'm working on a system and video to make it easy for everyone - cnc or not. stay tuned!
You learned some Chicago? At the beginning of the You're The Inspiration music video there are a group of punks. By the way you are part of the inspiration and I don't even play guitar...yet!
Fantastic Tim! Good stuff. It looks like you use maple for your necks. Have you considered trying reclaimed pine as an experiment?
these necks are store-bought. I have made necks from reclaimed pine and doug fir with varying degrees of success. It's a little weak but the main problem is creating good joints from soft wood.
Did you use a standard double action truss rod in the pine necks? Do you think adding carbon fiber rods would add enough strength to a pine neck? I also wonder if roasting pine then applying finishing oil would help to harden it enough for a good joint. Maybe one daily I'll have the tools to experiment with these ideas.
I did use a standard truss rod but did not add support rods. sometimes I use brass or aluminum inserts, too. I think a through-neck might survive better than my bolt-on attempts.
Keep up the great job
punk rock changed my life
Are you just saying that or quoting D. Boon and the Minutemen? :)
@@timsway both... poor my whole life...found a place where I could belong. It wasnt just a fad.
I found a reason a time a place to be me... And I wasnt alone. 30years later my mohawk is more like hockey hair but a rocker though and though lived in countless cites, towns, holes in walls, back waters, and homeless three times.
Still poor but I have my pride, and I wouldnt change a thing. RIP MIKE CANNON
Punk rock changed my life. The boys are trying to get the band back together. D. Boon eat your heart out
This looks like so much fun. Been looking for a career change; how does one build guitars for a living?
Still trying to make this my living (I make furniture and stuff primarily). When I figure it out I'll let you know :)
Outstanding.
Tim, you are the Punk-Repurpose-Do Only My Way, GOD!!! What site do you use to get your fret positioning printout? I want to use a special scale on my next bass build and I want to print it out and glue it to the fretboard to cut the fret slots. I get so inspired and happy when I view your channel and your projects. Pallets and hollow core doors, that's where it's at! Thanxz
cheers. this calculator will help you get any crazy or compound scale you want. www.ekips.org/tools/guitar/fretfind2d/
