  • Daddys little girl starting to develop some really basic hammer skills. In this video the 110Kg (242 pound) Prako powerhammer is being given a little workout on a 10 pound block of 4140, resizing stock with the hammer is a great learning exercise. My apprentice is not running the hammer to even half its capacity but running the hammer lightly to get a feel for it while she works to forge it to a new dimension. This hammer was built in the Czech republic in 1969. "Federhammers" have been around for a very long time and are nearly indestructible. This Soviet hammer will still be laying a beating down for many generations to come with proper care.

What a Beast! I’ve been fascinated by power hammers since I watched a vintage video of an axe company in Maine. Yours is a much improved version! Bless’ns to ya, Tedd

Hi Brad. Just wondered what motor you are using on that 110. It just seems to be running slower than it should which is about 200 strikes a minute. I run a Prako and its a lot faster in its cycle.

It actually does run about 200_220 bpm if I'm running it full blast. I have it set up with a jackshaft and belt clutch right now with a 5 hp. In the vid my daughter was trying it out for her first time and taking it slowly so not running it to capacity at all. My other two ajax hammers I had setup same and they worked well. A 7.5hp will wake the hammer up more for sure but the 5hp more than meets the need currently. Having the direct drive motor to flywheel is ideal but my original three phase 7.5hp motor needs a very costly repair so with the 5hp I had laying around with the jackshaft I put together in two days got me up and running again. Would love to see your Prako in operation there's not much on youtube of them. What hammer weight is yours?
