  • Follow a 47 car grain train through the beautiful scenery of the Southern Alberta Rail.
The train starts with 2 units pulling and one unit pushing on the rear but a 4 unit helper set must be cut in and cut out to help it over the summit. Grants' focus on realistic operations comes to the fore in this video.

Certainly an excellent layout showing off N scale's best attributes. Long modern trains, long runs and interesting operation. Mark - your video is excellent. Nice mix of run-by shots and cab views. Well done all around.

Awesome layout, awesome tour. Really appreciated the "how to" input on what couplers, trucks etc Grant uses to achieve such a smooth running layout.

Mark, wonderful video! Grant - those trees, and the pine beetle infestation at approx. 13:00 min (that's what I thought it was) so convincing and really places the layout in the modern era. Well done, beautiful work sir! Mark, to the best of my knowledge a plain bearing has no other moving components (such as rollers) other than the inner and outer race. Like con. rod or crankshaft bearings in a reciprocating engine. A bushing can act as a plain bearing, but might not always be required to do so or move. Anyway, thanks again for giving us the opportunity to view this here!

Mark, this is a great video, and Grant, your layout is beautiful. The video is informative, good-looking and smartly done. I love how the layout maximizes all of n-scale's benefits and is extremely well designed. I hope to be able to see both your layouts one day. I am in n-scale also, but as an urban modeler I am also designing and building to maximize the benefits of the scale, even though some of the design challenges are different. Keep up the great work, both of you. Jonathan Jones - modeling the CNJ Newark Branch in n-scale.

Thanks for the videos Mark. Grant has done a wonderful job with the scenery and it is encouraging to hear that prototype operating practices are used. After operating on your layout and seeing Grant's, N scale can look very convincing and run smoothly as well.

I was just getting ready to comment on how I didn't see any car lurching anywhere in the train. Then he explained why at 4:30. I'll have to try that!

Wow! love the scenery again! I'm going to have to get my volume louder somehow so I can hear the conversation regarding the trees and static grass. I'm modeling BN and a lot of this is very similar to the Kettle Valley area. Thanks for posting this very inspiring video!

fantastic layout really enjoyed watching it.. look forward to more. I hear you on the Atlas drive wheels they just dont cut the mustard. I have replaced all my Atlas drive wheels with Kato drive axle & wheels and it does make a big difference on how Atlas locomotives run.

Oh no! Why oh why did you do a scene cut at 19:34, just when our moving train was about to come abreast of the waiting train on the siding???? That would've been SO cool to view that meet from the perspective of the moving cab!

    Bearings or bushings?
For the last 60 plus years bearings were made of either rollers or ball bearings, bushings on the other hand are a solid one piece constructed bi- metal

To finish, bushings have no moving parts.

I appreciate the detail in the layout but I just can't get behind N scale, the rolling stock looks so fake even with the excellent weathering.
