has anyone ever made this and seen how it holds up in the heat? I need a marshmallow buttercream that I can frost cupcakes and have them hold up in the heat at a farmers market. I would use a High Ratio Shortening..Love to know if anyone has made this in the heat and how it held compared to regular Wilton Buttercream?
this frosting is EXCELLENT! I did mine a little differently, but honestly the regular recipe might be enough to frost a 3 layer cake, but i made extra just in case. I used 1 1/2 sticks butter, 5oz shortening, and about 5.5 cups confectioners sugar. Also i used the vanilla but added about a tablespoon of coconut extract, and 2/3 cups coco lopez for a coconut frosting. ITS AMAZING!
I followed the recipe from the website and I did everything it said to do, but the consistency felt like play dough and and it tasted like powdered sugar. It was still really good, but how can I make sure it turns out right the next time?
you need "high ratio shortening", it's designed to not leave that awful greasy feel in your mouth like regular vegetable shortening does - you can also substitute it in for the butter if you want a whiter icing or if you don't want or like the taste of butter...and to really knock this recipe out of the park...LorAnn oils sells a marshmallow flavoring...so good in frostings
Yes, since she said it makes just over three cups of frosting, you can easily fill and frost an entire two layer cake with this. But if you also want to pipe rosettes or borders on the cake with it, you'll need more.

What shortening did you use? Was it lard? Also how do you make marshmallow cream as we don't have it here in the UK.
You can use Trex, you can get it in Tesco etc I’m in the Uk as well 😌
