    In this must-see makeover, designer Emily Griffin takes you inside a cheerful home packed with personality. See how she transformed a dated Victorian with a mix of color, pattern and texture. Playful design elements - like sunny wallpaper in the entryway, a bright yellow English roll-arm sofa in the living room and quirky sconces in the dining room - add whimsy to the space's original bones. Plus, you'll be awestruck by the impressive kitchen makeover, where a moveable island, ample counter space and innovative storage shine.

    I have watched this house video over and over the last couple of months. Just finished my sunporch and living room, and people are giving me similar comments about how joyful the space is. Exactly what I was needing after losing my sister’s husband to suicide, then my dad to Dementia three weeks later. My happy, colorful house is keeping me from falling into a full on depression.

    It’s a pretty, colourful and low budget renovation, not breaking the bank on the decor in the living room. Great job! The kitchen looks like where most of the budget was spent and it’s stunning!

      Tuatara Boo It means that they’re always thinking about optimum resale value. Colour can put potential buyers off because seeing the sellers’ personal taste so on display prevents them from seeing themselves living there.

      also because too much color gets boring! I get bored easily and I have to always keep things classic and neutral otherwise i'm just wasting money pursuing trends and getting bored with them and staring all over again.

      @@inspiredby624 Exactly what I have always thought. What if my house doesn't sell for a while? Then I'm living in a place I don't like, possibly for months! If they can't look beyond some color (and the agent doesn't help them along), that's too bad; I'll wait.

    The designer knows how to play with colour , even her colour sense to pick up the right choice from her closet for this interview matches with the aesthetic of what the video all about. And the furniture design and lay out feels to homey to be at your reach - making it more precious.

    • @Fran-jw1sr
      @Fran-jw1sr 4 роки тому +7

      @@arianaa.3448 I love this interior and, like previous comments it does have soul, my home has a similar theme, but with teal and natural materials, a lot of the pastels and grays and monotones are a result of interior designers selling those trends and the masses following or taking their word as gospel. I remember a time when almost every interior was white, off white, beige etc... Interior designers were saying neutral colours were all the rage then. Thankfully people are taking back control of personal taste and expressing themselves the way they want to. Design an interior that speaks to you, if you can't do it yourself hire an interior designer (if you can afford one) who would take your ideas or what you like and express it in the design.
      As for your comment about the street without artist work, you are right, of course we need art to embellish our concrete built environment / jungle with art. Are they some highly talented chosen bunch, well now that's the million dollar question. Very subjective, one person's art is another's person's.......

    • @solobano570
      @solobano570 4 роки тому +5

      True, I always like to hear their expertly ideas, but I just couldn’t let them choose objects, furniture and especially art. For instance, above mantle piece, I would much rather choose a piece of art whether that be an original painting, sculpture or mirror, something that comes out of my life experience. It’s like having designers dress you, it’s all glamorous, but I find a lot more important to wear my lucky sweater, my grandmother’s locket or a cheap scarf bought by my child on some school trip. It’s more meaningful and beautiful. However, I appreciate designers a lot, especially for making public spaces more appealing. But, that said, there should be also place for artists. More money should be invested in making our environment attractive to look and learn from.

I had to go back for another look. She was so right about the muted rug "pulling back". You can't have every item in a room being the star. Then you just go crazy not knowing where to look! Also depends on fabric too. I always use a washable fabric. Or low velvet like texture. My white was like a cotton linen.

    I love a colourful home and this is just my style. I am so sick of grey and white everywhere. People just don't realise how different they will feel living in a colourful house, I feel happy just walking into my living room due to all the colour I have brought in. Like this living room my walls are white, currently :), but every single thing in my room is bright and colourful, and everyone who walks in comments on how bright and happy it is. Changing your room with lots of colour really does change the way you feel in it x

      Maybe some people don't like colour. Maybe they are happy when they enter their white and Gray houses.

      @@MM-gv3dz Maybe, I know my daughter has a beautiful home with a lot of grey and she is a happy person. However, for anyone who feels down or suffers from anxiety grey can suck the positivity out of them sadly. I did have a primarily grey living room when I fist moved into my current home six years ago and at the time I loved it, but I know that now I have moved to the colourful side it has definitely impacted my emotional wellness.

      Sorry computer playing up, continued :)
      I think I chose it as it was a neutral base and I have never been into vibrant colour, even in my clothes, but now I know I'll never go back to a beige or grey living room. My bedroom is calm to be conducive to relaxation, so it is all dark blue, which I also love. x

    WOW you have my wallpaper in this kitchen. I did one accent wall with it in front of the bay window. Then I found a long iron birdcage that I suspended from the ceiling and put a Hoya plant in it. The sun has pampered that plant to a lush deep green. The wallpaper is perfect for that spot.
