Mila's a terrific actress. Her talent has always been overshadowed by the fact she plays action heroes most of the time. Such a shame. She deserves more acclamation.
Bruce Willis was known for his comedy before he was known for action films. Who remembers the television series Moonlighting (1985-1989) starring Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd? Die Hard came out in 1988.
"Why haven't I ever seen this before?" That is one of the world's greatest mysteries, how this fantastic movie has gone so far under the radar. And Mila Jovovich is the cutest thing ever in this movie.

The Fifth Element wasn’t one of those big creatures at the beginning. She was in that statue that they removed from the ruins. They came for her & the stones.
I'm not so sure. The hand they found looked like it was holding a control lever from the ship that crashed. Maybe they all look similar to her (ie humanoid) and are just wearing big suits. I think the statue was just a way to carry the stones.
One of the clever things I love about this movie is the dialogue that shifts from one scene to another. The lines that make prefect sense within their own context, but also mesh seamlessly with the conversation going on in an entirely different place. Like Zorg being upset about the missing stones and Leeloo describing where they are. That whole conversations- those two conversations- wind back and forth so well. And it happens other times, as well. Very cleverly done. I've never seen it done quite this way, or this well, anywhere else.
Neat little factoid: 62 miles above the Earth is where the atmosphere ends and Space begins. The priest was played by Ian Holm, aka Bilbo Baggins in "The Lord Of The Rings" movies and as a supervisor in the movie "Brazil", which you should check out, since you liked "The Fifth Element" so much. I enjoyed your reaction, it was very real.
Brazil is pure fever dream, a full realm beyond the Fifth Element. She might get totally lost watching that, it often requires multiple viewings. She has seen the first in the trilogy already though, so maybe she's ready.
I , also, like the little hint that our moon was from the previous time the evil came to the planet, as you see both of them in the same shot, when it turns to rock. Although it looks like they cut it a LOT closer this time.
I'm so glad to see you react to this movie, it's one of my all-time favorites! Directed by the crazy French director Luc Besson, and featuring a standout performance by Gary Oldman, it seems as Luc gives Gary the permission to go completely crazy in his roles, as he did before with "Leon: The Professional." I'm so glad you like this movie, and as always, I loved your reaction to it!
Your enthusiasm no matter when is always welcomed. THANK you for this giddy viewing! I hope you try Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004) one day :)
The hat of the burglar was a photo of the empty hall from the position of the Corbyn Dallas's door peephole. He placed the hat in just the right position so that when Corbyn Dallas looked through the door peephole after the doorbell was rang he saw an empty hall. Thus Corbyn opened the door not knowing someone was stood outside armed.
Amazing reaction! This was my favorite movie in the 90s. I was in university for science, I love sci-fi, and I saw this in the theater. I couldn't talk for the rest of the day, I was so shocked. I'm happy you liked this movie so much!!
The hat on the neighbor thief's head was a picture of the empty hallway. He would put his head down so Bruce Willis could see what looked like an empty hallway when he looked at his monitor before opening the door, and then, when he opened the door....the thief would be standing there with his gun.
This is one of my top 10 favorite movies of all time. Some fun tid bits for you: The language Leeloo speaks is a fully developed language. Milla learned it in it's entirety for the role. Her full name is Leeloominaï Lekatariba-Lamina-Tchaï. The "Ekbat de Sebat" at the end of her name is a title meaning "The honorable". Her name in the language roughly translates to "Precious Stone of the Earth, Defender of Light and Life" The Aria that the Diva Plavalaguna sings was performed by Inva Mula. She recorded the song in full then in post production they keyed a synth with each note she recorded from the section with the super rapid note changes and swapped that portion out as the changes occur faster than the human body can produce the sounds. The Aria is a testament to her range and capabilities as a singer and performer. Great reaction and I can't wait to see you finish the "Band of Brothers" series.
Your reaction to this movie made me SO HAPPY! It was my all-time favorite film for YEARS (until I saw Everything, Everywhere All at Once, wow) and it always brings me great joy when watching someone discover it for the first time! This is "that movie" which, no matter what mood I'm in, I can put on and watch from beginning to end. Probably seen it close to 50 times at this point. Thank you for doing this. I appreciate you!
Great reaction as usual Dawn💯🇦🇺👍. The director’s ability to seamlessly tie in 2 or 3 different scenes at the same time is remarkable. The Diva singing / Lee-loo fight scene is one of my all time favourites. Thank you again Miss Laughs a lot. I could listen to your laugh all day long.
Fun Fact: Before Milla Jovovich was cast as Leeloo, Luc Besson originally wanted to cast Julia Roberts in the role, along with Mel Gibson playing Korben Dallas and the Singer, Prince playing Ruby Rhod, and I think production was set for 1992 but I think due to financial issues, production was delayed. Whilst Luc Besson was casting for the role of Leeloo, Elizabeth Berkley (Jessie from 'Saved by the Bell' and Nomi Malone from 'Showgirls') auditioned for the role. Side note: Before Gary Oldman was cast, I want to know who Luc Besson maybe originally had in mind for the role of Zorg.
I saw an interview with Oldman where he said he was doing Luc a favor (Luc also did “Leon: The Professional” with Oldman). But Oldman is not a fan of his own work in 5thE. He’s a moody sort.
It always has to be mentioned: It's one of the rare moments where a time bomb's countdown actually takes place in real time (at least until the last 5 seconds part, where Gary Oldman's character pauses it, of course). It just adds so much to the feeling of time running out, compared to countless other movies where it somehow seems they have too much and too little time at the same time. :)
Several references to the #5 in the Movie. There are five elements (obviously), Zorg stops the bomb when there are five seconds remaining on the timer, Korben’s license has five points left on it, and Ruby Rhod’s show starts at five o’clock.
The director made another fantastical science fiction film, just a few years ago, which could almost be thought of as an unofficial companion to this film; it's called "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets". It's based on a French comic book series.
Gary Oldman plays another Gr8 role in The Book of Eli, along w/ Denzel Washington. It's an Action, Drama, Sci-Fi w/ a surprise ending that's not been reviewed by many of the "First Time Watching" channels on YT. It's another movie that takes place in the Future w/ Earth's demise as the past. The movie theme is about a journey of Faith w/ a very surprising ending.
Well "Vagina" is a beautiful word. First time I've seen anyone come up with that though. That had me in stitches. So glad you liked this movie. One of the best scifi movies ever!!
A few more names that you might recognise... the archeologist at the start was John Bluthal (also seen in the Vicar of Dibley), Zorgs henchman "Right arm" was the rapper 'Tricky', the priest was Ian Holm (also played "Ash" in 'Alien'), the artist at the start was Luke Perry (was also in "Beverley Hills, 90210"), the scientist early on was Christopher Fairbank (was also one of the two low-life bad guys in Batman (from 1989), as well as "Moxy" in 'Auf Weidersen Pet', and "The Broker" in 'Guardians of the Galaxy'), and the general was Brion James (also played "Leon" in 'Bladerunner'). The operatic song is known as "The Diva Dance", and only a handful of operatic singers can sing it correctly as it was purposefully written to be unsingable by humans. Oh, and Corben Dallas and Mr Zorg never actually meet, regardless of Zorg giving the instruction to an aide to fire a large number of employees... Corben being one of them.
Dawn Marie, you should watch "Leon the Professional". Same director, and another outstanding villain-performance by Gary Oldman. The style of the film is different, less colourful and way more serious, but a fantastic movie.
This is my number one favorite movie, I have a 5 foot by 8 foot mural from the movie release. When I was in Japan and the movie came out I went into the Japanese town near me to buy cakes and stopped at a movie store that had VHS tapes. The movie store had a mural on the wall for The Fifth Element and I was blown away and wanted it. I went to the counter, didn't speak a word of Japanese and I pointed at the mural on the wall and reached into my pocket and grabbed all of the yen coins I had, not knowing the handful of yen I unloaded on the counter was worth about 200 dollars (I was a dumb American). The Japanese guy behind the counter shook his head no no no, pushed the yen back to me and a second Japanese guy came out from behind a wall and handed me a folded-up mural of the same pattern. The mural is a picture of when Mila Jovovich jumps off of the building before she falls into the taxi. This mural has been on my wall since 1996, that is 27 friggin years! This is my most favorite movie! Thank you for reacting.. you enjoyed this movie as much as I did, thanks again!
I always love to see when someone "gits it" with this movie. Its one of those movies that seems to generate polar reactions of those who absolutely love it and those who just don't get it.
I'll tell you why I'm addicted to your reactions. A lot of people that do these movie reactions, it seems like they're performing a lot of the time. You actually say what you're thinking, and it's funny as hell.
After watching this video I think I have to start a pole for all the viewers that got to watch this reaction for who thinks Dawn Marie is one of the most adorable people ever ever🎉
I'm proud that it was filmed in London and Mauritania. Whilst filming over here *Bruce Willis* went to watch a West End show. It was our very own British Comic *Lee Evans* . *Bruce* liked the show so much. He asked to see *Lee* after the show and right then and there, offered him a part in the movie.
My fiancé brought home a kitten on Mother's Day last year saying that the kitten didn't have a mother. Long story short, we kept her, and she's named after a character in our favorite movie. Leeloo.
24:19 "We're sending somebody in to negotiate!" "Anybody else wanna negotiate?" "Where did he learn to negotiate like that?" "I wonder." Well, I mean, say what you will, but it worked.
This is my favorite movie. It has been for a long time. For the first time I've been watching reaction videos of it lately and then I got to yours. Yours is by far the best. It was good to see you fall in love with all the best parts. You're a funny girl and it's good to see someone really get it all the best bits. Well edited too. 10/10 would reccomend. Cheers and glad you loved it too.
Have been watching this movie repeatedly, from theater release, to VHS, to DVD, to BluRay to digital. A family favorite and it never gets old. Your reaction was perfect and glad you enjoyed it so much. The writer/director, Luc Besson came up with this when he was a teenager. We got lucky he was able to bring it the screen. Hopefully you will find the time to watch some of his other work. Thank you Dawn!
Congratulations on watching one of the best sci-fi movies ever made! It’s an amazing and wild ride that’s full of imagination. There’s so much about this film that I love but by far my favourite element is the music. My favourite piece is the music that plays over the end credits. It’s so beautiful and ethereal and romantic. Just stunning. I’m really glad you enjoyed this film so much. I guarantee it’s a movie that you’ll watch again and again. And her name is pronounced Mila (mee-la) Jovovich (yo-vo-vich), she was 19 when she made his film and she’s from Ukraine 🇺🇦.
The 1st assistant to Zorg (Gary O), the one he blew up! Is also a unique esoteric vibrational musician. He is Tricky... thats his name. Used to play alongside Bjork .
Great reaction, to a GREAT film! •••• Mila Jovovich is pronounced Mee-luh Yo-vo-vitch. Y, in place of the 'J' sound. •••• "Major Iceborg" is indeed supposed to look like a 'fat Princess Leia' - the hairstyle is this film's tip-of-the-hat to the famous Star Wars character. •••• I think the idea was that Leeloo's "first" body (which we never got to see) was inside the sarcophagus taken by the Mandoshiwans (the mechanized aliens) early in the film. •••• I think Korben kissed Leeloo, because of the VERY strange circumstances up until then: He was looking for 'the perfect woman' and the literal 'Perfect Woman' just so happens to crash into his cab. Then she passes out, and then he learns that she's "mankind's most precious possession." Did some unseen Power cast him in the role of Alpha Male hero/Prince Charming? Maybe his role was to wake 'Sleeping Beauty' with a 'magic kiss'? Korben has a romantic side. His conclusion was mistaken, but come now: was he REALLY an idiot for arriving at that conclusion? •••• When Ruby Rhod lets out that huuuge, long, high-pitched 'girl-scream,' it'd be interesting to know if that was really Chris Tucker's voice, or did they dub in an artificial scream, to make it sound more ridiculous? •••• Ruby Rhod gets my vote as maybe the best scene-stealing character of all time. Second place probably goes to Billy Crystal as Miracle Max, in The Princess Bride.
I originally watched this with my dad when I was 15, 16 and he thought it was so campy and silly, but I loved every minute of it. This started my obsession with 90s and retro sci-fi.
My brother introduced me to this movie right after it came out and I've loved it ever since. He also introduced me to 'The Matrix'. Love your review. You are so intelligent. It's as if you were in the mind of the producers and screenwriters.
Dawn Marie, I Loved how you thought of the most Beautiful V God made!!!!!!! I was surprised you mentioned Seris Black and John McClain, but not Bilbo Baggins.
"Why was he kissing her?" Because she's perfect & the whole gun to the head reversal was funny. As for Zorg, he was working with the Big Evil Planet (Mr Shadow) because he's evil & thinks that with the destruction will come profit & growth.
um... if what you were trying to say is "Chris Rock was in Fifth Element..." ummmm... no. No, he wasn't. Chris Tucker. Full name "Chris Fact Stated Tucker".
"Big teeth and big forehead, she looks like me!" You forgot a big smile, big blue eyes, and big laughter! Does anyone else love hearing Dawn Marie laugh? She's so funny with just the right amount of cheekiness. Great reaction as always!
Fun fact, since you are a Scot: The first half of the diva song is the "Madness Aria" from the 3rd act of Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor;" the opera was based upon a romanticized Scotland in Sir Walter Scott's novel, "The Bride of Lammermoor."
Just before the movie was released in theatres you would see posters advertising it and the posters had nothing but a black background and the title on it and no commercials on TV. People had absolutely no idea what this movie was about or who the actors and actresses were going to be.
I think I've said this before in another reaction, but this is now the most I've ever seen you laugh/have fun with a movie. And you even WHEEZED. Hahahahah awesome. 😄
Saw this on the big screen when it came out. Loved it and watched it a few more times since then. So glad you really enjoyed it Dawn. Pssst, you have great taste in movies and comedy!
Due to filming delays from Bruce Willis working on another project, Luc Besson decided to use the production team to create another film, Leon The Professional. It is one of the best action movies of all time. You should definitely check it out if you haven't seen it.
There are so many details and quirks in this movie it's impossible to catch and appreciate them all in a single watch. Hell, watching it 20 times I was still catching stuff I didn't notice before. For instance, fun fact: The antagonist and protagonist never meet. On a side note, when someone asks me what my favorite movie is, this is one of the first that comes to mind.
5:27 he's wearing a picture of the empty hallway on his head so when people look out their door camera, they won't see him. I've always wondered if his tweaker brain came up with that scheme or if he was inspired by someone else.
This is a brillant movie, I actually saw it when it came out and absolutely loved the quirkiness and 90s-haute-couture-meets-Star Wars aesthetics! It's so fun too, closest recent thing that have at least some of the appeal would probably be Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets but it can't quite compare.
Many of the monsters, background props, big wide shots and other things here and there are from sci-fi movies and TV shows as sight gags, see how many you spot. e.g.. Flying car city is 'Blade Runner' and the cars are from Pixar's 'Cars' or 'Rodger Rabbit'. Big gold monster is Kosh from 'Babylon 5". 3 rocket in tail of ship launching is from early 'Battlestar Galactica'. Little and big things.

The actor who played The President is Tiny Zues Lister Jr. The role I think he's most known 4 is Debo from the movie Friday.
One of the greatest movies EVER made. Forever and ever. You are a doll. Love ya girl.
Leeloo.
30:27 "Yeah you don't wanna see that... I do" LOL
The year is 2214 or so. Opening Saud 1914. Then jumped 300 years
Definitely one of the best films ever! No matter how many times you've seen it, it never gets old!
This is one of the best movies ever made, it is so funny it always makes me laugh watching it. Loved the reaction.
24:19 "We're sending somebody in to negotiate!"
"Anybody else wanna negotiate?"
"Where did he learn to negotiate like that?"
"I wonder."
Well, I mean, say what you will, but it worked.
Some of the best music/cut scenes/transition editing I have ever seen in a film! Great movie!
Think it's been 10+ years since I last saw this excellent film.
Thanks for the video...!
Oldman is always amazing!
Ruby Rod is such a classic character. Best thing in the movie. Then Zorg.
If she likes Gary Oldman...
@@bodan1196 "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead".
I think you'll pretty much love ❤️ anything Director Luc Besson touches.
You are so much fun to listen to, thank you ☺️
Chris Tucker made the movie for me. His incredible over the top performance is just so hilarious.
Great reaction, to a GREAT film!
••••
Mila Jovovich is pronounced Mee-luh Yo-vo-vitch. Y, in place of the 'J' sound.
••••
"Major Iceborg" is indeed supposed to look like a 'fat Princess Leia' - the hairstyle is this film's tip-of-the-hat to the famous Star Wars character.
••••
I think the idea was that Leeloo's "first" body (which we never got to see) was inside the sarcophagus taken by the Mandoshiwans (the mechanized aliens) early in the film.
••••
I think Korben kissed Leeloo, because of the VERY strange circumstances up until then: He was looking for 'the perfect woman' and the literal 'Perfect Woman' just so happens to crash into his cab.
••••
When Ruby Rhod lets out that huuuge, long, high-pitched 'girl-scream,' it'd be interesting to know if that was really Chris Tucker's voice, or did they dub in an artificial scream, to make it sound more ridiculous?
••••
Ruby Rhod gets my vote as maybe the best scene-stealing character of all time. Second place probably goes to Billy Crystal as Miracle Max, in The Princess Bride.
I'm glad you liked it. It's one of my favorites. In my proverbial top ten, for sure.
Luc Besson’s best movie of all time the music at end when they’re together in the chamber is so perfect for that scene forever together
You are delightful! I’m so glad you enjoyed one of favorite movies.
The set actually caught fire and wasn't purposely set on fire during the fight outside the concert hall.
I originally watched this with my dad when I was 15, 16 and he thought it was so campy and silly, but I loved every minute of it. This started my obsession with 90s and retro sci-fi.
Amazing comedy performances from team. It was a great film from the late 90s. It is remembered fondly for so many reasons.
5:25 It’s a photo of the view of the hallway from Corbin’s eyehole. So it would look like no one was at the door.
My daughter's, both in their 30's, always say .. Cheekon .. Good .. when chicken is mentioned in any conversation.
Chris rocks performance in the fifth element not only exists but is on record as existing. Statement of fact made.
WTF does that even mean?
um... if what you were trying to say is "Chris Rock was in Fifth Element..." ummmm... no. No, he wasn't. Chris Tucker. Full name "Chris Fact Stated Tucker".
More Gary Oldman in Leon: The Professional.
Second that!
"Big teeth and big forehead, she looks like me!" You forgot a big smile, big blue eyes, and big laughter! Does anyone else love hearing Dawn Marie laugh? She's so funny with just the right amount of cheekiness. Great reaction as always!
I don't recall big leia having blue eyes and smiling.
This is one of the very few movies I bought, truly amazing and funny.
I'm glad you loved it too.
Saw this on the big screen when it came out. Loved it and watched it a few more times since then. So glad you really enjoyed it Dawn. Pssst, you have great taste in movies and comedy!
13:45
I was trying to figure out who "Amayda Blankwidge" is for like 10 minutes before I turned on the CC to see what you said. 🤣
Great job, you don't give yourself enough credit, you figured out the elements before the movie told you.
I also have to add that Bruce Willis had the most awesome character first name ever. Corbin Dallas.
This was definitely the right one. It had action and humour. Unforgiven was a serious movie.
Did you notice that the actor playing the priest was also played Ash, the artificial person in the first Alien movie?
Due to filming delays from Bruce Willis working on another project, Luc Besson decided to use the production team to create another film, Leon The Professional. It is one of the best action movies of all time. You should definitely check it out if you haven't seen it.
Thank you for the "Melting Hat" theory!😄 😂🤣👍
Excellent! One of me favs tbh
Yay!! 😍
Your ebullient and happy reactions always make me re-experience my initial enjoyment. Smiling still. Thanks, Dawn.
One of the most batshit crazy sci-fi movies ever. I don't think Chris Tucker could get any more nuts than his role in this film.
Also check out,The Hole 9 Yards and The Hole 10 Yards with Bruce Willis.
