On your Rio, were you able to get the cat out from the top? I've heard some people say the clearance is too tight and they had to disconnect an engine mount and lean the engine forward to have enough space. I'm not sure if that's necessary

My KIA dealership said the one that was in there was for 50,000 miles. My roommates dropped it off to her mechanic and told him to do everything it needed to pas inspection. @@BeyondCashed Yes, I figured it out by trial and error. I disconnected the flange between the flex pipe and the "downstream" CAT, just letting the exhaust pipe hang. With that much inside damage in the catalyst 9 out of 10 the base catalyst also clogged/damage but surprisingly the base catalyst doesn’t look bad at all, since the catalyst are way to expensive I suggest to customer to replace the main catalyst first, luckily by replacing the main catalyst fixed the issue.

Where can I purchase a catalytic converter for my 2016 Soul! 2.0?
Amazon
Somebody should redesign the exhaust header to move the cat down below where the flex pipe sits.... Shouldn't be too difficult since the original cat already fits in from above...
This is 1.6L engine, on 2.0L engine CAT is already down below. Thanks for watching.
Great Job You got a AAA
Triple A indeed. Thanks for watching.
Dint look to hard, nice video
Thank you 🙏
In the Kia Dealership as we speak and at 103,500 miles my Cat Converter needs replacing. Dealership is asking for $4k! 😱😱😱😱
@Hachiro hey I have a 2014 kia as well! How much did it end up running you guys to replace the cat? Mine needs replacing, but have no idea how to go about it.
Nice!!! 🤙
Thanks Man.
@@lavernirving3094 if you’re car still under factory warranty take it to the nearest dealership, they will replace it with no cost on you.
Kia says warranty on the catalytic converter is only up to 80,000 miles. I have the same issue on my `16 Rio. I have 120,000 miles and they wont cover anymore
Kia Dealership quoted me $1900 (before tax) to replace my catalytic converter on my 2015 Kia Soul. After watching this video, I understand why😖
Catalyst converter are ridiculously expensive. Thanks for watching.
How long would it take for your average d.I.y. Guy take on this job if you had to guess. Could I get away with “gutting” the cat
My best guess will at least 4 hours for average DIY guy.
This thing clogged up in 50K!?!?!?
@@TeamPaulie2520 not just clogged, it was destroyed at 50k
@@WrenchingRyan because of oil consumption?
No check engine light or stored codes for this issue?
Most of the time PCM will turn check engine light on with code P0420 catalyst system low efficiency but not in this car.
@@WrenchingRyan I have a T-Mobile Sync up Drive and it keeps giving my 2016 Kia Soul the P0420 code but no light on dash could this be the issue. It shifts into all gears but idle is rough.
@@AnthonyHernandez-zi4ex Kia release safety recall campaign for dtc p0420 a ECU logic improvements. Thanks for watching. Please don’t forget to subscribe
That’s crazy with only 25k miles
I tried to recall but I think they run the engine with two cylinders misfiring.
Flex pipe
yup. lol
This is not procedure for the 2.0
1.6L and 2.0L might slightly different process but close enough. Thanks for watching, please subscribe.
@@WrenchingRyan They're entirely different setups. Cat is not located in the manifold. You didn't even designate trim and engine... For those don't know.
@@JamesValentineBaja1000 yes you are right. thanks for informative comments.
@@JamesValentineBaja1000 - where is the cat located then? I have a 2.0
@@slowgoat6089 it under the car in middle in between passenger and driver seats took me awhile to figure that 1.6 got two cats and 2.0 got one was wondering why was so expensive for 1.6 compared 2.0
I bought and installed all oem parts. My 2.0 struggles to turn like the battery is dead. I charged the battery for 24hrs, same issues. I got a jump start same struggle. I bought a new battery (oem also) same sound of the engine barley turning. Any ideas?
I have a 2017 Hyundai veloster 1.6l value edition & it burns oil, Which clogs the cat & I'm almost on my 4th one in 2 years. Rings seals whatever it is they basically want a kidney to do the job. I'm about to trade in, Then on top of it the cat is integrated with the manifold making it cost a fortune. It's a good little car but this is outrageous, Every 20k miles they poop out on me & they sold the car to me like this. I'm not entirely sure what's making it burn, They want 2k just to look & they gmfu overall that'll be almost 7k in repairs. Half the cars worth, I already spent 5,900 in cats myself and they replaced the first one with a 100 deductible. I want my money back at this point
Yeah not gonna try this one 😂
Could be a little too much for DIY. Thanks for watching.
Hyundai / Kia do not honor their warranties....
They Not Worth buying due to this.
Toyota or Honda is the way to go!
We have a 2016 KIA Soul with a 'Bad' catalytic converter -
KIA refuses to cover it. My 'solution' is to never buy another KIA.
We have had this car since new and have taken very good care of it at the KIA dealer.
The initial low price is not worth it in the long term.
Kia release safety recall campaign for DTC P0420 to upgrade catalyst overheating protection logic improvements or catalyst replacement, I don’t understand why Kia declined your claim, I replaced this catalyst under factory/SC.
Same here. Kia did some kind of computer update for the recall, but never replaced the cat. We escalated through Kia Corporate, opened a Goodwill claim, but the dealership refuses. I’ve heard people say you have to keep trying for months and eventually they’ll break down and replace it, but we live in an emissions state and can’t wait any longer.
One of my employees car’s converters failed just over 100k miles. The car is garbage!
Everything about this car is trash
you owned one?
Holy mackerel. What a complicated repair
Cat too close that's why it is clogged up with so little milage, too much heat ,and KIA KNOWS THIS,MONEY MAKER!!
