I found a whole pallet of those cold weather MREs when i was in Afghanistan. Nobody else really had the means to boil water though. It made my MSR stove worth every penny id spent on the thing. Those cold weather ones are sooo much better than the standard MREs. Even the egg meals were good. I ate real well that winter in the mountains.
@richardjohnson4052 I wasn't quite on the hammock level, but always had a book and a stove. Nothing better than a hot cup of coffee in the morning, or a book to read when you have time to kill.
Actually, the title of this video is kind of Clickbait because I just turned 54 years old this month and I have never even heard of this meal so apparently you can live without it lol
Good to see you again Nathan I enjoyed seeing a new review. I hope you decide to do more but I do understand as a person who loves to try combat rations from around the world it can get very expensive. Thank You for sharing this with us.
Great to see you back in action! Was practically screaming at my monitor for you to remember the Tabasco sauce, lol. I would have mixed the chocolate powder, coffee, non-dairy creamer and maybe the sugar packet together and added twice as much hot water - mocha! I also would have added twice as much water to the fruit drink powder, but that's only because too weak is infinitely better than too strong with that stuff, IMHO. Thanks for the tip about draining the water off the reconstituted eggs!
Nice to see you're back nathan - I enjoy your reviews very much. I know what you mean by "tomatoiness" in tabasco, however it does not contain tomatoes - weird eh? Only peppers, vinegar and salt.
@@jasonrichardson1999 The point is Steve1989 is better and more viewed by a large factor, because his channel is better. This channel is just a bad copy. This kind is just a taster. Steve knows the history behind MREs.
@@jasonrichardson1999 I am glad you agree he should stop doing the MRE reviews and just have his other channels. Nobody watches these videos, especially if Steve1989 has new content. I am not sure how it was even recommended to me? I guess I have to block it or something.
I was literally thinking about y'all yesterday and how I missed MRE reviews. This is crazy! Haven't watched a single MRE review on any other channel since your last video about them. Welcome back, hope y'all are doing good.
HE LIVES! I was thinking about you recently wondering if you vanished form the tubes... ? Question is, how do you feel? Do you want to keep going? I do know you'll still have viewers to watch your vids!
While MRE's are convenient, they are stupidly expensive, nor are they tasty. Anyone wanting to stockpile food for when the shit hit's the fan, there are so many more options that cost a lot less, taste better and is better for you than MRE's.
I was herding sheep in Montana when a team of Special Forces training nearby stopped by my trailer and dropped off two cases of these. I was already familiar with MREs from my time in the Army but these are on a different level. The turkey tetrazzini was great.
This one is the "extra fiber" meal to make sure the previous MREs are moving properly. If you can, spread the oats, figs and GORP into different meals so it's not all acting together at once.
I know videos would be shorter without drink reviews but… I just skip completely thru the drinks on 100% of all MRE videos. They’re all practically the same and and I couldn’t care less about the drinks
A shit ton of tiny little things that all together supposedly give sufficient calories, including some sort of milkshake (for breakfast?), hot chocolate, coffee, various snacks, etc.. All I would want is a BIG helping of eggs, and a double portion of coffee. Little to no fuss or mess. One big meal and off we go, good till lunch. All these finicky bits strike me as an unsatisfying massive waste of time.
He seems to be kinda negative as far as approaching the older MREs compared to other guys eating 40yr old kits. I mean imagine it’s the end of the world and to be worried about black specs in oatmeal. If it’s that or radioactive mud… mushy oatmeal is the way to go!
God i'm glad i'm not deployed anymore. i'd eat the eggs and the nuts and throw the rest away. oats taste like cement to me, and i wondered if you'd ever notice you have some hawt sauce to breathe a little life into this pathetic arrangement. if i were active duty now, i would ALWAYS carry a bottle of crystal extra hot sauce in a very secure enclosure. that koolaid mess seriously needs some booze to make it work. i wouldn't even try it. prolly look at it and throw it away. would prolly mix the coffee (or trade for one) and MAYBE mix it with the chocolate drink. that might be tolerable. why don't they have beer mix or something we would really like?? wtf? we're the usa, we should be able to figure that out!
I make my own MRE for breakfast. I get the Mountain House Eggs and Sausage, 2 packets of instant grits, and that's it. Pour the two packets of instant grits into the Mountain House bag, with 5 to 6 ounces of water, so when it's ready you just stirred up real good and the Grits will soak up any excess water that you had. Believe it or not.
Add too much water and you then "dump out the extra water" half the flavour goes with it. Add less, and you can always add a bit more. Just about cover the eggs or any freeze dried main, and you'll be about right.
I'm not a huge fan of freeze dried eggs. I have the peak refuel one and I always thought it would be better with a little ketchup and maybe a little kraft dinner powder cheese lol
When you had to eat this crap as part of your job, you learn to mix certain stuff together, like the coffee goes in the coco mix with the creamer and sugar. The fig bar gets broke up and thrown into the oatmeal and the Tabasco goes into the eggs immediately. The quicker you eat it, the better chance you have of keeping it down.
I subbed because of your content. I enjoy it. Why would I want it to end. I'd understand if you stopped. But I'll sure as hell keep watching em if you make em. And I want to. Continue please
Good evening from the Great State of Texas. Glad to see you are back. How does the military heat up the water needed for this style of mre? Thank you and have a good day.
It would be nice to actually see you eat the food instead of wasting it.. ya it’s an MRE but eat it if you say it tastes good. Not trying to give you shit.
Keep it. Maybe do a video twice a month. Even if a ration has been done by others, it is YOUR viewpoint that matters. For those of us that don't have the luxury of buying several rations at a time, varied data from many inputs (especially yours) helps with choosing what to spend resources on. Thanks.
Welcome back Nathan! It is good to see you back and posting. I hope that you continue posting, but as others have said, I understand that this is an expensive hobby. Good luck and best wishes.

A job? Film yourself open, prepare & eat an MRE. America... What a country!
You're back ! Cool beans 😎 . Been snacking on some mre's myself , just needing to go easy on them myself due to being diagnosed with diabetes 🤦

Pet hate, this is not an MRE, it’s an MCW. Try eating it straight out of the pack without rehydrating it! 😂
Red Horse Knife Works makes that knife currently. It's called the hell razor.
In a cold weather environment, you never heat water and not consume it; soggy eggs be damned.
Just had this meal last weekend on an open air overnight camp weekend. Too much water makes it suck so be careful
