- Every C3 Unsportsmanlike Foul called at Eurobasket 2022 in one video.
- C3 - An unnecessary contact caused by the player in order to stop the progress of the offensive team in transition. This applies until the offensive player starts his/her act of shooting.
2:50 looks accidental to me. Player cuts in front, he has to evade but there's a teammate lying on the floor, so tries to grab his opponent to prevent falling into his teammate.
Agree.
4:40 is a weird, WEIRD call. Defensive team does not have possession yet. You could argue this.
Just a bad call. No disadvantage for the offensive player... didn´t manage to "suck" on his whistle and so he had to give a U... which I´m sure he regret after.
@@einargun Looking at the whole of the rule (C4 nowadays):
An illegal contact caused by a player from behind or laterally on an opponent,
who is progressing towards the opponent’s basket and with no opponents
between the progressing player and the basket, and
▬ the progressing player is in control of the ball, or
▬ the progressing player is attempting to gain control of the ball, or
▬ the ball has been released on a pass to the progressing player.
This applies until the offensive player starts his/her act of shooting
Ergo: this seems like a correct call (albeit unfortunate). Possession does not matter.
Contact is illegal (although not intentional, just bad luck) - yes
Contact is from behind - yes
progressing player is progressing towards opponents basket - yes
No opposing players between the progressing player and the basket - yes
Progressing player is attempting to gain control of the ball - yes
Personally, for unsportsmanlike fouls I will always call, although in this case indeed 47.3 should probably apply.
Do the referees have to interpret intent by the defensive team to stop the fastbreak in order to call this foul? Or can this foul be called with incidental contact that halts a fastbreak?
these are not all C3, some are C1.
Most are C3, but you are correct, few might be C1.
Can you explain C3 is?
An unnecessary contact caused by the player in order to stop the progress of the offensive team in transition. This applies until the offensive player starts his/her act of shooting.
(Basically a tactical way to stop the player instead of playing legal defense.)
