You've got it figured out. Micro hydro is the king of off grid power. Output competitive with a solar array, but uninterrupted. Those night hours add up. There is no better way to spin magnets than with water, being 700 times denser than air and continuously moving in creeks. That is of course if you happen to own land with moving water & an elevation change. That's the #1 thing I'll look for when I buy land.

Buddy's dad had an eighth grade education then went to WWII. He could build anything himself. He took an old atari game system and wired it for the local scouts for their soap box derby timing system. How could someone without any background use a computer system and make something that was so accurate. This was done in the 80's.

Thanks for sharing. Very nice presentation. A small suggestion. You could properly close up that dam with cement/concrete, to reduce leakage and put in a natural spill way, to handle excess water. Also, that bearing cap needs to be covered with a fully covered cap, I think, so that no rain water can enter the bearing cavity, under any circumstances.

If you stick to practical things, use prebuild generator, consult a professional electrician (and google) about wires, solar inverters etc, let him inspect your work, and assemble circuits and automation for you. Then all be ok, so you can do it with some help i belive.

Great work Mark. You demonstrated this very well and built an excellent hyrdropower generator. Many comments presented are accurate regarding the conversion of AC to DC. You may wish to consider the transmission of your alternating current rather than direct current because AC can withstand long distance lines, hence why most LDPDS' use AC current. Edison was wrong when he pushed DC to DC because of the immense amount of loss, however Tesla was on the money.
Instead, bring your full bridge rectifier closer to home and get the most out of your system (even charge an extra battery with that extra voltage). Again, this is great work and I would be thrilled to have such a great source of power so close to home. I do have great solar and wind potential and I was just researching different stator designs. You really broke the mold (no pun intended) on this one.

I can pretty much make anything if I have the time to do it. What I do and all the materials I have is at work. I live in Odenville Alabama which is north from Birmingham like you're heading toward Gadsden Alabama which is the same direction going toward Chattanooga Tennessee. The type of things I do is we take them apart and put them back the way they came. For me to make something like that I would have to invest a lot of money personally and it would not be economic for me to build it for you. I have been trying to build a generator out of a ceiling fan. But as always when you have hobbies other things get in the way. I am very impressed but what you did at your own home you should be proud of yourself that is a great job. Some people I work with are not that picky to do things right they rushed to quick and wind up doing it twice in one day. You're the type of person if you are in that field would be eager to learn and proud enough to do it right the first time.

      @@markp0177 Hi
      Amazing job
Do you have your old stator ?
And if you still have it do you want to sell it?
Or can you tell me of what can of materials is made?

@@boycotatlanta I sold it a few years ago. I made it out of fiberglass with several steel rings.

    Nice work Mark,
As an alternative to the plank - vortex attenuation - consider a disk set to water-air interface level, to isolate atmosphere pressure forcing air into the vertical hydro channel. The disk may encounter a force no more than 1 ATM x area.
I agree with you that vortex in the transmission of a specific rotation promotes efficiency in this system. You have a counter clockwise turbin (camera view) and the wanted vortex rotation shall also be in the same direction down the hydro channel.
To promote wanted vortex, you may add - stator fins - just before the current change from horizontal to vertical. Although stator fins (flow diverting fins) just before the driven turbine can increase system efficiency as would jet engines do, however the diversion effort will harvest energy out of the hydro flow, leading to a suboptimal system efficiency that should be avoided when possible.
    Hope this helps,
