I feel like the only upsides there are to not implementing separate rankings for other characters are not having to deal with the same person on leaderboards and it makes it more straightforward if they implement individual player character usage and win rate %s if they are actually good with those characters But I definitely want individual character ranks back bc it feels way easier and more fun to pick up characters that way
100% Casuals is ironically "too casual" for me to practice matches because I frequently get matched with people who are way better than me so its like i just get stomped. The matchmaking isn't too strict. And I personally love climbing the ranks on each character, that's super fun for me. I hope the team does something cool though.
15:32 in rivals 2 though right now theres nothing stopping you from counterpicking any other character in game 2/3 of a set (iirc) i have definately had some close game 1s before getting absolutely stomped on by a different character in game 2 and it feels bad anywho this is a real cool video idea! would love to see it maybe become a monthly/bimonthly thing depending on how eventful the game is :P
Hey I appreciate that! We shall see how much news there is and how much bandwidth i have ahah and yeah, that's the other thing, is that people will play their "worse" character on rank, and then switch to their mains just to win. which i dont know how to feel about. I THINK the best argument is because counterpicking is important in platfighters, they WANT you to be able to counterpick without having to worry about ranking. but imo, i don't think that's important enough to not let you have character ranks.
@BothPlayersGG A very very old PiCrew I put together from a custom vessel maker yeah! It's not exactly an OC, more just a bunch of design elements I liked thrown at a wall. I should uh... Really think about changing it soon. But also it's been this for years and years so~
Dude awesome idea Bringing all rivals news from different platforms together in one video is super convenient for those interested in the game’s situation. Have you considered going over twitter news? Despite the negativity on twitter , dan does have quite a few discussion with the community over there. Just something to consider. Again, love the video! You have my like & sub sir!
Yes! Definitely gonna add a dev team twitter roundup into this. I just didn’t for this one cause the video already got waaaay too long ahaha But yes! Good idea!
I don't really mind CC as a long time melee player, my beef is that there isn't exactly a 'fair' spread of ways to address it character by character. Clairen doesn't have to care at all, Kragg's conversion ability and chain grabs let him work around the percent easily, Fleet has normals that actually have normal knockback growth so they begin to transition from combo to kill moves at later percents and beat CC, but some characters are simply forced to space tilts and fish for grab only in a game where tilt conversion potential is highly variable (from nonexistent to knocking down for a tech chase at low percents), and so it just makes some characters 'feel' like they have a stale game plan. If more characters had more robust or consistent throw games I could definitely see this as being less of an issue, or more aerials in particular had more normalized knockback growth, this could be another fix, but as it stands now it can feel a little tricky to deal with for some and a non-factor for others. That being said, Melee never had balance patches so we'll adapt, but in a game that *does* get patches I hope this point is worth mentioning.
This is a very interesting point! Yeah I guess specific counterplay to cc is both not obvious with a lot of characters and less effective. I wonder how the dev team will address it going forward 🤔
I’m a big fan of these videos! I used to scroll daily in Nolt for every detail but then I wouldn’t have anyone to talk to about what’s happening on it. This is a great way to keep the community informed with what’s going on and encouraging others to have their voice heard
Great video! Love this agree 100% that the community needs something like this! Individual Ranks is dumb though , we need to counterpick and make ranked closer to being like in tournament. bans, counterpicks, all that. Individual Ranked Chars ruins that one way or another.
Thank you! And that's an interesting take! I think i philosophically disagree that "ranked" should be the same as how it works in tournament. But I do agree that allowing counterpicking is good. Which is why I would like something similar to Rivals 1 ranked, where you can only counterpick to a character that is same rank or lower. So if you start off with your main, and you see what the other guy has, you can counterpick and be okay. So you're not locked out of counterpicking, but you can't smurf with a worse character and then counterpick to your main and stomp yknow? Idk, I think rivals 1 ranked was an elegant middle ground. I'm also just personally a ranked grinder, i just love getting each character to the highest rank I can go. And I would rather play other players in my relative skill level when i'm playing my off characters.
Haven't finished the video, but my biggest recommendation is to keep personal takes *OUT* of the videos if you are planning to make a "all in one ROE 2" news video. People are here for the news not your takes (even though I agree with them so far). Looking forward to find digestible bites of ROE2 news! Edit: Finished the vide. I loved the addition of showing the community Reddit with media from there. If I had to say anything about what I would personally want is maybe a more structured approach starting with the news first and foremost before anything else. Another note and this is a hot topic for some people but if there are possible leaks... possibly consider speaking on those.
Appreciate this feedback! For the most part you’re right, the news itself is much more important than my take. But I can’t lie, giving takes is fun LMAO I think I miiight still give takes just to give one perspective on it, cause it’s fun for me, and it CAN spark discussion. But I’ll always preface my take and leave it at the end of the news bit so it’s skippable for people!
Etalus special pummel sounds really cool. Btw what is your background? You have seem to have a good breadth of knowledge on a lot of this stuff, are you a software dev? Pro rivals1 player? Just curious. Thank you for making this video :)
Also I am very appreciative of you making this. I stay off socials and my free time goes into practicing rivals 2 as effectively as I can, so I often wish there is a good way for me to hear about stuff in the scene. Big subscribe from me
One more thing, I think a more descriptive name might benefit the videos going forward. I bet a lot of people would love this content but it’s hard to tell from the title what this video even is.
That’s a good point! Yeah maybe I’ll experiment with more obvious title for the next one! Also I’m just a huge fan of rivals and I like to keep up with what the devs say and stuff like that ahaha Not a developer or pro player (yet)
Unfortunately you probably have to 😔 I feel your pain though. I played a LOT of Olympia in rivals 1 and she ain’t coming till likea few years for sure 😔😔
When I played Rivals ranking up felt like RNG where sometimes I would run into smurfs due to how the rank worked so I actually prefer one rank per person.
Oh you mean when you played ranked in rivals 1? Interesting. I suppose smurfing can be an issue but that’s why I think there should just be a new floor. Like a plat player, any other characters start at gold. Or like someone who’s diamond rank would plat or above. Also as a mostly casual player I like ranking up each individual character. It’s more fun for me ahah
I wish there was a way to buy character lvls with the in game gold so it makes it easier to collect the skins and color pallette for characters that u don't play or main so u can have a complete collection.
Interesting! You know, while I understand this sentiment, I think it's nice to have specific awards for PLAYING the characters. What might be a nice middle ground is to let people farm exp in local versus mode so that when you play with your friends, everyone gains exp. As it is right now, only player 1 gets the exp. But yeah, you're right, it's gonna be hard to get everyone to level 100 to get EVERY skin.
I think in concept, I understand the desire to have a defensive option to help get out of combos + help survive. But I agree that the way it’s implemented right now it FEELS bad though.
What is it about aerial parry to do nairs that you don't like? I currently set "grab" in the air to be nair and I think its a decent option so just curious what you think!
@BothPlayersGG grab as nair is unoptimal and bad. this is because u cant buffer grab as nair out of jumpsquat 'cause u'll get JC grab. You must do air parry as nair lest be at a disadvantage the game should implement a nair button. where A forces nair always. Then no weird controls where u press parry to nair have to be used
@@G0Crazy1 the point IS that parry is objectively the best nair button. This is annoying because I hate that I had to change my controls to utilize parry as nair and it made me change three buttons around
@@ZachStarAttack there's always going to be a trade-off between number of buttons and precision. If you want to have the same number of moves with fewer buttons it's going to demand more precision. If you want to reduce precision/timing demands you're going to need more buttons. Putting Nair on Air Parry is as good as it's likely to get!

Brilliant BRILLIANT video thank you for putting this together you've easily earned your sub
Appreciate that! And love your profile! Is that a Hollow knight oc? Or a hollow knight character I’m not aware of?

Glad you think so! I’m thinking either weekly or bi-weekly depending on how much news is out so we’ll see how it goes!
