She acted herself here that's why she gave a solid performance. Anglina has borderline personality disorder, closest to Lisa's condition in the movie. In other movies she's decent at best but nothing exceptional and her choices in movies sucks, she goes for the blockbusters

The more I watch this the more I realize that Lisa was genuinely upset and heartbroken about Jamie being gone but her grief was manifested through her anger. And this just looked like another tantrum to the staff and they resort to sedate her instead of trying to console her. Truly misunderstood and unfair ):
Yep, exactly! A damaged person doesn’t know how to properly deal with their emotions because their sad feelings were more than likely stifled by their abusers. But they definitely pay attention to anger, so she’s learned to channel all her other negative emotions into anger and takes it out on others. As an institution, they probably did understand the grief but because she was inconsolable with her anger, and could possibly be a danger to others, they probably felt they had to sedate her. Just how I see it, but yes, they could’ve handled it differently.
She harms people. Badly. So imo not unfair. Sad for her though. To me people that harm other and themselves but can't stop or see what they're doing is so sad. Same with severe addicts making their families watch them die why they slowly commit suicide I from okc them all the while stealing their hearts and money. It reminds me of zombie movies where the person is still moving but you have to accept they're dangerous and not really there anymore. Anyone can chose to get help but they can't see. Right, this is why I think Lisa is borderline, and misdiagnosed as a sociopath. Lisa CAN care for other people, she’s just a psychological wreck. And I am borderline.
Angie killed it as Lisa and deserved her oscar win. But, Brittany as Daisy really stood out. Her character by far was the most disturbed. She played her in such a understated, yet very powerful way. She should have won as well. I wonder how many other roles would have inspired us with, had she lived longer. And anyone that says Angie cant act should watch this.
I feel like one of the major problems that this movie highlights on is how patriarchal this society is despite being well into modern age. Most of the problems these women face involve men, but these men are never punished, locked away, or blamed for being part of these crimes. It takes two people to sleep together, yet Susanna is constantly shamed for it, not the professor. Daisy's disgusting father continues to sleep with her and then lock her away. A lot of these characters in the mental health ward have men involved in their lives, but most of these men are living their lives comfortably and freely.
You do know that the movie was set to take place in the 60s, right? Back then people were misdiagnosed all the time, they didn't had the knowledge and/or study to know how to handle them so they locked them away. Sure patriarchy had some contribution, there's no denying in that but men and women suffered equally on that aspect.

Have you watch the movie "Gia"? that movie was made for the small screen but she was AMAZING there she won a Golden Globe, a SAG Award and other nominations for that interpretation, she was so awesome there that its the reason why she was cast and elected for this role on "Girl Interrupted" that as we know earned her the Oscar as Best Supportive Actress...If Gia would had been a movie for the BIG screen she would had been nominated for the Oscars as Best Actress...She was also great in the 2008 Clint Eastwood's movie "Changeling" earned her an Oscar nomination as Best Actress for her performace in that movie....I apologize for my bad english, it's not my native tongue, greetings..
The crazy part about all this is that I love Angelina and she was scary asf in this movie. I also love that she had her actual hair color in this movie. She's a natural blonde.
I love how this movie doesn't shove it in your face that its the 60s with the clothes, if I wasn't for her saying maybe it's was the sixties I woul dnt have realised. Sometimes when a film is based on the past they go heavy on the costumes and it's really takes the experience off for you. It's so subtle.
It reminds me of looking at my mom's pics from the 50's and 60's.... Like still regular clothes but just cut slightly different. Except the cars and my aunts "greaser' boyfriends with their leather jackets cigarettes in the folded up in the sleeves of white tshirts Levis with black leather belts and shoes and their hair greased back. They really looked the part! But mostly it was more subtle than some other movies. I think people looked more of the era when they were all dolled up for dances and in their trendiest freshest clothes too.
The way Torch casually tells Susannah that Jamie hung herself w the volleyball net, like that sort of thing isn't uncommon there, breaks my heart a little bit.
I've never seen this movie and had to read the description (which I read after seeing the clip) to find out that Elizabeth Moss is in the movie. I've gotten fond of her from watching the show The Handmaid's Tale. So then I rewatched this clip and the make-up artists did a darn good job at disguising Elizabeth's appearance! I wonder why lisa left jamie behind?...why didnt she take her with her?
because she only cares about herself
She's...a sociopath. That's part of the deal. They often forget about people. Some of them do care, but one symptom is they don't seem to have a conscience.
Apparently Lisa escapes and comes back all the time...
We got to cut those nails again ...lol xD dying!!!
I love this scene. Angelina is amazing.
Lisa stole Xander Cage's jacket.
xD
lmao
Angelina was 23 when she filmed this and she did THAT.
Excelent movie with excelent performances. Poor Britanny Murphy....she was great in this too. What a loss!
This is Angelina Jolie's best performance ever such a classic movie wow...
Winona should have been nominated for an Oscar.
Seeing Brittany Murphy shattered my heart, may she rest in peace.
1:35
Literal goosebumps..... the second she realized Jamie offed herself.....
Brilliant acting!
Lisa calling Georgina “georgie girl” sounded so sweet
Amazing character development by brilliant actresses!
When you realize Elisabeth Moss from The Handmaids Tale and Mad Men is "Torch". :O
Happy birthday, Angelina! 🥳🎂🎊🎉🎈
This Movie Was A Movie That Makes Angelina Jolie Became Famous and Makes Winona Ryder Turned Invisible from A Movie Scene.
The way Torch casually tells Susannah that Jamie hung herself w the volleyball net, like that sort of thing isn't uncommon there, breaks my heart a little bit.
lisa is such a badass and undeterred character like-
“Torch” was the best. 🤣👍
Lisa scared me in this movie 😂😅 I never knew what she would do next
I always thought it would be an interesting concept if they did a movie about Jamie's life & how she became best friends with Lisa
Whoopi's acting is very good in her role here.
So many amazing actresses in this movie
Angelina 😍
I can relate to having a serious mental illness. Mine is schizoaffective disorder. I was never in an institution for it and im glad.
I still want Angelinas jacket
This movie should be called Mean girls, psychiatric version lmao
Angelina stole the show as Lisa!
Man Winona is gorgeous
I've never seen this movie and had to read the description (which I read after seeing the clip) to find out that Elizabeth Moss is in the movie. I've gotten fond of her from watching the show The Handmaid's Tale. So then I rewatched this clip and the make-up artists did a darn good job at disguising Elizabeth's appearance! I only recognized her in this from the look she gave at 2:05 (right after Angelina's character is carried in front of her). Looks like I'm going to have to watch this movie sometime!
“Hey torch”
“Hey Lisa”
“ya miss me?”
“Not much :)”
