As we emerge from the largest financial crisis since the Great Depression, the, at times destructive, role of the financial sector in the economy has been a topic of robust debate and discussion. As a contribution to this debate, John Kay, one of Britain's preeminent economists and Chair of the 'Review of UK Equity Markets and Long-Term Decision-Making', which reported to the UK's Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills in July 2012, gave a presentation to the IIEA on the economic role of the financial sector.
About the Speaker:
John Kay is a visiting Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics. He is a Fellow of the British Academy, the Royal Society of Edinburgh and St John's College, Oxford. He contributes a weekly column to the Financial Times and he is the author of many books, including The Truth about Markets (2003) and Obliquity (2010).
