Since theatre is back from lockdown and we started to rehearsal Lucia de Lammermoor by Donizetti with a lot written in C, I should update my review with some “real life” ensemble experience. And I’m in trouble because there’s nothing to talk about. “It just works”, that’s it. Intonation is impeccable. Usually I need much shorter barrels for my Buffets in Bb and A to tune well, but Moresky tunes fine for me with stock barrel (shorter). The tone is sweet and sound emission is clean and easy.
Great review. One thing that I often find lacking with such reviews is whether the keys are nickel or silver plated. Very important for anyone with a nickel allergy…

Спасибо Илья! This little horn sounds amazingly sweet in your hands. I too, bought a Chinese (not Moresky) clarinet in A, and was pleasantly surprised with its quality and craftmanship. Thanks to your video I am thinking about purchasing a Moresky bass clarinet.

I bought an moresky bb clarinet (hard rubber 18 keys version for marching band) and i found it pretty good for price. The only problem i found is throat a and ab are quite sharp, easily fixed with some tape on tonehole and now play in tune. I also have a buffet b12 and this play same if not better (i can get more homogeneous tone with chinese moresky than buffet). My worry is about key material quality but after some outside play and some resehal nothing have lost form. Of course my professional clarinet have better tone and projection but cost over 20 time this, i found this chinese over my expection.
Hello Marco, thanks for sharing your experience! Does your Moresky Bb clarinet has a model number, in the case of someone is interested in one? What it's price is?
@@igalkov i tried to post link but idk why i can't see my comment. You have to search moresky clarinet 18 keys and is 1st result, i paid around 140 euro in italy tax included, they have 17 or 18 keys version of this and bakelite or hard rubber. I bought 18 keys hard rubber (the most expensive one) because i feel (just my feeling) that hard rubber clarinet have a better sound than bakelite or other plastic one. Last thing, the stock mouthpiece wasn't much a disaster but is too much unfocused for my play (i play vandoren m30 and recently bought new d'addario ev10e, both good for me).
@@marcograsso1386 Maybe links of this kind are prohibited, I don't know. I've found the clarinet you described, looks like the model number is MCL-186 (in the pictures provided by the seller).
I took the plunge and got a Moresky C after seeing many positive testimonials, this one in particular. I was a bit skeptical at first since my experience with a Chinese Eb did not go well, but the Moresky C is fantastic for the price. There's some keywork that probably needs adjustment, the low F is really flat (though doesn't that apply to any size of soprano clarinet...). and I have to figure out new altissimo fingerings, but overall l it's much better made than the Eb I got previously. What I especially like is its distinct timbre, it sounds bright and happy compared to the Bb without being shrill or piercing like the Eb.

On eBay, I see C-key clarinets that look exactly like the Moresky, including the distinctive plated hole in the bell, but the seller says that this particular clarinet is "pre-branded." Do you have any idea what "pre-branded" means?
As I say in the video, E201 is not made by Moresky factory but is made by another manufacturer OEM and Moresky just puts his logo on. No wonder there’re another instruments that looks like this one because technically they are the same
@@igalkov: That's very helpful for those of us who are considering one of these Chinese C clarinets, especially after hearing you play one and also watching your video about correcting intonation problems. Thanks very much for your reply.
Dear sir Thank you for your review on the Morekey Clarinet. I have the same Clarinet and I thought it's an E flat. So how do I tune it with concert pitch?
Hi, sorry, I don't understand your question exactly. Is your clarinet in E flat or in C? If it's in C, it's already in concert pitch. If it's in E flat then your C is E flat in concert pitch, and to play concert C you need to play A. Hope this helps!
Hello! The C clarinet uses standard mouthpiece of Bb clarinet. There's some manufacturers that makes a "specific" mouthpiece to use with a C clarinet, but I've never tried them and I don't see much sense in it because my Bb mouthpiece (which is Behn EPIC) works tremendously well with my Moresky C Clarinet.
I have a c clarinet but the notes above C sharp are out of tune. Wondering if most c clarinets suffer from this problem. Do you use regular Bb fingerings for the notes above high C sharp? Thank you for the info on the clarinet.
Hi! Do you mean altissimo register (above the staff) C sharp? It's complicated register for all clarinets. Even my A clarinet doesn't exactly match my B clarinet in terms of fingerings in this register. Is it sharp or flat? Or just all over the place? Altissimo have a tendency to be on a flat side for high-pitched clarinets like C or E flat clarinets.
Hi thank you for your reply, yes only the altissimo C sharp, D, D sharp and E do not match the fingerings of the Bb clarinet and as you indicated they are on the flat side. It would be good to get at least basic fingerings for these notes that are already been used and tested but don't know were to get those as the c clarinet players are really not that plentiful. maybe someday, somebody will get inspired and share those 4 precious fingerings so desperately needed . ha ha !!
@@ccuriel4874 I see. I don't know your exact gear or your level of playing, but from my experience I may propose some possibilities to try. First of all, be sure to have a strong and stable breath support. Second, this register on a higher pitched instruments needs a strong embouchure and back of the tongue control. As for the fingerings, I may suggest a rh G#/D# to be added for a C#, and a throat G# -- for D# and E. You may experiment with all four pinky keys for D, but usually I found D to be stable. For more fingering possibilities, you may want to check a wonderful Tom Ridenour's Fingering Guide. And of course you may try different mouthpiece. Hope these helps!
