They used to play around Cleveland/Akron before they released any records. Miriam on drums, replaced by Nick from the Electric Eels in 1977. Fantastic from the very first show onward.
" 'Gravest Hits' is the first 12" EP by the American garage punk band the Cramps, compiling both sides of their first two 1978 Vengeance singles, "Surfin' Bird" and "Human Fly", with an added fifth track, a cover version of "Lonesome Town". It was released in July 1979 on Illegal Records and I.R.S. Records. The tracks were all produced by Alex Chilton and recorded at Ardent Studios in Memphis in 1977. The EP's liner notes were credited to "Dr. J.H. Sasfy, Professor of Rockology, American Rock'n'Roll Institute, Washington D.C., U.S.A.". Gravest Hits is one of the first records of both the rockabilly revival and the psychobilly genres. The photograph on the back of the original sleeve, of the band in performance, was taken at the Palladium theater in New York". Source: Wikipedia
The CRAMPS were SHOCK-A-BILLIES finest hour. So pleased I got 2 C them @ their peak - as great, if not better, live than on their stellar recordings. 🧟♂️
I was at a record store and i bought "bad music for bad people" never heard em just loved the album art. So i bought it. I listen to all sorts of music i liked the album my friends didnt get it!! But a few years after the cramps started getting popular with there live act and people started seeing them in a different light. Most my friends liked em years after i tried to get em into their music. Better late than never. Same thing happened when i played my friends the b-52s!!! I swear my friends are all slow learners...... LMAO
I was at this concert, and I'm on the back of this album cover, but you can only see the back of my blonde head. Amazing concert especially when Lux almost jumped over me!

Walking one rainy night in the fall of 1970's through the dark streets , wearing my black leather jacket and sunglasses after dark , on the Lower East Side of NYC.. I had been in a fight earlier , but, you wouldn't tell your Mom, you were a man of teens.. as the blood ran from the nose and started to coagulate.. I stood in the "CUBE" at Cooper Union.. I said I would meet some friends at club CBGB"S for a few drinks at what they said what was 'Halloween' like band known as THE CRAMPS. I was embarrassed that I fought off two of the 23rd Street boys cause I refused to cross the street and got a bloody nose.. In short by the time I got there the bleeding had stopped.. , but, I had shiner.. Ricky D, Sharon, Pat , Nico and Andreas were there along with my fave at the time Lisa 'the Punk' . She felt bad and gave me kiss to make it feel better, 🙂.. whatever happened to such girls.. 😕 Anyway, the details are sketchy as it's been nearly 45 years since these events that happened in what was drunken stupor of sorts.. It was getting close to my decision to leave and become a 'Man'.. But, that night belonged to THE CRAMPS. Halloween came early Sept.. The songs on this Album is what they played as week later I brought it at a store near a place called 'Trash' It said on the back it was like a late night TV, when TV and movies were annual events and not streamed or even available for viewing year round.. In any event the Cramps were Rockabilly from an ED WOOD movie with a Twist of ELVIS .. It was a time I can't fully remember, but, never forget.. it was a time I had friends, Girls I knew and ;loved and liked .. it was time now long gone like the singer LUX Interior who looked like a Demented Elvis, with his GF Poison IVY.. on guitar. Years later I heard LUX had died in LA he married IVY and they lived together till the end. You had to be there to understand
