fun fact: the quote that she used in last weeks episode, 'From my rotting body, flowers shall grow and I am in them and that is eternity' IS in fact Edvard Munch, creator of 'The Scream', which is chilling in the sense that the Nazi's seized one of his pieces (Ashes II). His art was meant to serve as a piece of his "eternity" and it was stolen from the rest of humanity. Just wild dude

As a person living in central Europe (Slovakia) I remember going on a field trip on a random tuesday, reading my lil YA fantasy novel on the bus and being dropped at a concentration camp/ station from which people where shipped of to bigger ones in Poland/Czech Republic. The mood quickly shifted from a bus full of teenage menaces yapping, playing games and listening to music to quiet and frankly shock. I will never forget looking at a concrete "playground" and hearing that people were forced to walk in circles for hours waiting their turn to be let into the building in the back where they would be showered with poisonous gas. We then went inside the larger building and saw a museum installation and behind the glass there were so many shoes of so many sizes. Empty old leather baby shoes, those I will never forget. The reaction to all this was obviously very emotional but I did not expect to be that sick physically. I think only the natural power of that place made me keep my vomit inside.
I visited Buchenwald concentration camp when I was 13. The sheer energy of the place was insane. So much pain, violence, and suffering. So much death, the essence of it stays there forever. Even as a child you can feel it. I will never forget it
What I love about your reports is I get to watch it twice. Once when I’m halfway paying attention getting ready in the morning and again when I am LOCKED in before bed.
Okay, so I’m a teacher in the public schools and LITERALLY I want to show this at a staff meeting to inspire my colleagues to teach the way you do. Professor Broski at her best once again.
As a teaching assistant at a state college and part time high school/ middle school teacher who teaches social studies teachers how to teach as well as every sector of social studies (world history, us history, civics/gov, economics, sociology, psychology, etc.) I am SAT for this one bestie. But the way that I teach to where students understand it explaining it like a high school girl with more of their language and when I feel you they EAT IT UP every single time. I explained the american revolution as a breakup letter and it was a hit. It’s my favorite thing to do! love you big 🫡
Girl I vibe with this so hard. I’ve commented on your channel before about WWII! At some point you may end up learning about what causes people to do “evil”. It blew my mind and was never what I expected. Most profound thing I’ve ever read about evil is “You cannot understand evil until you know how you can and have been enticed by it.” I think you would find all the philosophies/psychology behind why ideologies are created and how they get out of control so fascinating!! I am soo obsessed with WWII. I always wanted to understand it so bad to the point where I wanted to time travel, to put myself in someone’s shoes as a way of understanding what they went through, so I started doing WWII reenacting!! I’m a tiny 30 year old woman out there reenacting WWII combat!! It’s terrifying but also incredible. I love it.
My world war 2 class to this day is my favorite course I’ve taken in high school. She was one of those teachers, as well as her student teacher, who made you think about how you would feel if you were there. She had us play a dice game to see if we’d survive the race to Japan. It was so impactful because my great grandpa was my age when he served. So putting it in the perspective of I’m 19, flying planes over open ocean to get to France, my friends are dying, I don’t know if I’m seeing my parents ever again is insane.
In my Autozam AZ-1 Kei car NOT speeding down the highway cuz that engine be 50cc going maybe 25 miles an hour in the fast lane with a blindfold on wearing my sweatpants and oversized Mickey Mouse hoodie, windows down, podcast on full blast on the speakers occasionally scraping the boarder wall and swerving 💅
@@H.annahPaige I love listening to her history lessons, especially about art. I know we joke and stuff but art is hard for me to find interesting, but I go back and watch all her vids on historic art and what it meant for that time era. She makes it so fun😭😭
the fact talking about explaining history or any subject in a storytelling way is so true! It makes it so much easier to understand. I took a classical history paper and barely needed to study for it because I retained so much information just from hearing the Greek myths in a story-telling manner (and low-key aced it with an A+ for every assignment). Goes to show that's how myths and legends are passed on and these events are remembered so well, through the art of storytelling!!
Brittany, you are seriously my favorite UA-camr and content creator. Not only do you very obviously put so much effort into the work that you create, but you present it in a way that is engaging. I love history so much, but so much of the time it is hard to stay engaged when I feel like I’m just being read to off of note cards. The way that you explain this thing that you love not only makes me interested but makes me actually excited to learn more. You’re a great teacher
Lately i’ve been genuinely concerned about my lack of a physical media collection. I’ve realized that preserving the information I find online could be extremely important. @@birdie7910 Sorry to break this to you, but Brittany confirmed at her Dublin show that Chappel will be on Royal Court. This week turned out to be Charli XCX, but she will be on a future episode.
I’m English and my family home was built in 1891, it has existed through both the first and second war. The house me and my boyfriend have just bought was built in 1929. Old houses are made to last. I’m not sure if other countries have this, but the houses built nowadays are brittle and most aren’t made to last as long as the ones made back in the day.
That U-Boat she mentioned is at The Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. I was an archive assistant there for a bit. They also have a bunch of stuff from the World’s Fair there. My favorite thing is something that wasn’t on display but was just in the basement: a treadmill for a squirrel to power a lightbulb. Edit: I def got spooky vibes from the u-boat. I made a point to avoid that section. I don’t believe in ghosts, but I’m also not going to hang around to find out.
Re: U505 Spooky Vibes. Oh, night events, closing everything down after a night of tours was not comfy. 100%, I made sure to not be left alone down there.
The real kicker of being a history lover and growing up thinking, "What would i gave done? I would have done this or that or the other." But then growing up and realizing, I would have in fact just clocked in at work, bought groceries, did laundry, and pet my dog.
I relate to the U-Boat experience very much, and I'm so glad you pointed out the chillingness of that sort of thing. I visited the National Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C. last summer and they had a real train car from transporting the victims of the Holocaust to the camps. They had two paths for it, one through and one avoiding it. I decided to go through it. Multiple videos were playing of Hitler's speeches and of German broadcasts at that time around the exhibits and were echoing in the train car. Angry German speeches from Hitler and bombing news coverage. There was such a surreal feeling of death, suffering and melancholy with the background being the man that started it all. It was so terrifyingly evil and sucked from any true empathetic humanity. There was still the presence of death, the dead and the everyday people who lived through that horrifying experience in that train car. I will never forget it.
I visited the museum in 8th! The part that really got to me the most was the room with all the photos of the victims. It was haunting. I remember standing next to my friend, who is Jewish, picking up a tablet (?) that showed a picture of a family just a while before they were taken to a camp. Truly, truly haunting.
I feel you so much when you talk about art and losing it and coming down to our memories etc.. I always had that fear of losing everything because of how everything is getting numeralised. I've been spending more time printing photos and memories like concert tickets.. and everything basically I can print to keeps a souvenir, doing scrapbooks and so on.. trying to get my favorites books, movies and music cds on physical media in case we truely lose everything. There's been a few times I was really gratefull of doing that, because when certain social media closed, my friend lost everything but I didn't. I truely encourage everyone to get photos printed and anything they can hold in their hands... we never know.
My Latin teacher in high school was amazing and she'd make stories and chants to remember the way words worked and when we talked about Roman history, she would always make it so exciting. She made sure she knew each kid's struggle with learning and would cater to each student so that we could all understand but in our own way.
I'll never forget this! I saw Dunkirk in theaters when it came out. Upon exiting the theater, an elderly woman asked me to sit and pray with her. I think she had family who lived through those events. I don't recall exactly what she said as she spoke softly, and there was still credits rolling, I think. It felt surreal, almost like it never happened. I think the film helped her get closure. ❤ I'm so glad I took the time to sit with her in that movie theater.
Literally. Like who is Brittany. Not a prosecutor. I never will understand why the internet wants random people to be accountable for things they have nothing to do with

Love it when you talk history, it's really valuable and nice to be in a position where this knowledge is available in a calm format. History can be overwhelming but it was my favourite in class, because it argued for discussion points and perspective changes. Large ramble incoming: As some one who lives on the coast of England, Dunkirk was a very important story to know about, and was pretty much common knowledge. Mostly because we had boats go out on our shores as well as the more port available towns and city's like Portsmouth and Southampton. Other common knowledge history that surrounded the culture of my home town was the battle of 1066. Which was a crazy moment when the throne was just up for grabs and pretty much 5 guys all claimed it. As well as the Crowley curse, which is much more local to my town. Alister Crowley died in our town and its said the people born in the town are cursed to return before they die. The only way to break it is to find a 'hag-stone' which is a rock or pebble that has a perfect hole through it. These have to be found on shores and naturally worn or eroded. I have yet to find mine hah.
As a European and an English person I forgot how much of this kind of thing is inbuilt to our upbringing and how we take a lot of our shared history for granted.
You should talk about Spanish anarchism during the 1930s next! Thee was this amazing successful anarchist movement in Spain where people lived and worked with the motivation being community, rather than money, and productivity spiked and it was just really really beautiful and profound. I wish more people knew about it
The International Spy Museum is one of my favorite interactive museums! Literally every single exhibit has something interactive, the ww2 exhibit alone has a mission dedicated to finding 'dead drops' and finding hidden camers in time-dressed rooms while you act as an American spy. Its sick as hell and i couldn't recommend it enough.
Brittany talking about history reminds me of my 9-10th grade history teacher who was very passionate about world war 2, he has German heritage and hes very proud of it. when we got to the topic of world war 2 he would bring in artifacts that his grandfather had when he served during the war, he also talked about his grandfathers struggle having to fight against the Germans when he was one himself. I've always loved history
Absolutely loved this episode. I worked on WW1 and WW2 planes for about a year and seeing the cigarette cards of the English aircraft made me so excited. Hearing you talk about the U boat and whether or not it was haunted reminded me of a few things that happened while I worked at the museum. So it was a small museum, local to my area, but one of the largest of private collections of war aircraft in the US. There was the main museum building, a WW 1 hangar, an English control tower, a German hangar, and then of course we had a few storage warehouses on the property along with the hangar the mechanics worked in. Now a few things of note, the English control tower and the German hangar were all authentic. They were disassembled in Europe, and rebuilt over on museum grounds and restored to their conditions that they would have had during the war. The control tower was mostly fine, as a mechanic I didn’t work in there often, and the only time I ever actually went inside of it when when I had left the company and came back for a tour as a guest. The German hangar though? That shit had some weird vibes. I worked in there for about a month straight on one of the planes, and there was something about the vibe in there that was so so off. There were still bullet holes in the steel struts of the building from its war days. There was a steel strut that had a name and date etched into it from a polish prisoner of war. The man had been forced to work in the hangar and managed to carve his name and the date he carved it into the steel. I got chills the first time I saw it. It’s hard to even fully describe the feeling in the hangar though. There were a lot of moments I felt watched, there were a lot of moments where everyone I was working with was completely on edge. There were times I would get nauseous for no reason. Something in the hangar, the energy or maybe something else entirely just felt purely malevolent. The warehouses on the property had a weird feeling to them too, one of them was for aircraft storage, one of them was parts storage, but the third one had a lot of old artifacts in it from the war. German silverware, gas cans, spotlights from an old ship, along with an anchor. We even had a plane that was found and recovered with the pilot still in it. As far as I know, the remains were properly buried, but the plane was bought by us, and has been stored in the warehouse since probably the 90s or early 2000s waiting for restoration. The warehouses had a lot less evil of a feel, but sometimes if you were in there alone, you’d feel watched, or like the whole building was holding its breath.
22:35 if you've never been, I highly recommend the Holocaust Museum. Not sure where they're all located, but I've got one in Michigan. We took a class trip there in 7th grade when we started learning about the Holocaust, and it was extremely eye opening for my 12 year old brain. It stuck with me so much that I've gone back multiple times as an adult. It's extremely harrowing and surreal so be prepared, but if you're interested in learning more about that side of WW2 it's very informative and brings some realness to it rather than just being on paper.
The US Holocaust Memorial and Museum in DC is the best - I would definitely put the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum as the second best. Both are so worth visiting!
Brittany so what I’m hearing is you’re gonna fly to DC, go to the spy museum, civil rights museum, imma throw in African American history museum and finish up at the holocaust museum and take the next day off to mourn
I love WWII talk. My grand father on my dads side was a ball turret gunner on the b-17 planes. His plane was shot down over Germany and he was captured and was a POW. He received the Purple Heart. My grandfather on my mom’s side was in the navy. He never talked about his time in the war. He only ever said that it was the worst experience he’s ever had- it was a living hell.
being a german american, i’ve always had a fixation on ww2, luckily i had no family in the camps during the holocaust, but i had family members in the nazi party (both of my great grandfathers, one of them hid a jewish family and helped them flee to the netherlands) so i’ve had this like, fixation on it since i was a child since my grandfather on my fathers side (american) was in the 10th mountain division for the american army, so the extended sides of my family were fighting against each other lmao. my grandfather in the 10th helped win the battle of riva ridge and also fought in po valley!

Since you enjoyed Band of Brothers, I think you would enjoy watching The Pacific. I really liked how it focused on how the war affected soldiers individually. It is also focused on a part of the war that I as a student hadn't really been exposed to. We only hear about the mainland fighting and Germanys horrors, but this show focuses on all the fights on the islands and later Japan.
Thanks you! I’ve watched all bbroski reports right till the very last second. Last year and this year has been difficult but your weekly hour long info dump is a balm for my soul so know that your appreciated. In a way you’ve definitely opened my eyes to art and history as something fun and interesting to learn from and not a slog to pass a class. I really once believed art was bs so whatever responsibility you feel towards your voice and impact know that first and foremost you’ve inspired appreciation out of me and into the world.

Brittany talking about the Museum of Science and Industry with the U Boat had me kicking my feet I always loved history like she does, and seeing that boat as a child was so crazy it is genuinely massive but walking on the inside of it is so cramped. If you guys ever get the chance to go to Chicago and love history, science, etc. Chicagos museums are honestly one of my favorites (mainly bc I grew up going to them so I think its nostalgic lol)
okay couple things: 1) you HAVE to watch masters of air (AUSTIN BUTLER IN WW2 UNIFORM i was foaming) and also the pacific (these are both made by the same people as band of brothers) 2) the international spy museum in DC is cool but also Spyscape in nyc is so much fun it's a lot more interactive.
Brittany I just wanted to say I'm so impressed with how you handle everything thrown your way and you're a very level headed person. People are always trying to bring others down, but i wanted you to know not everyone feels the same.
Professor Broski, watching this episode and the one before had me so nostalgic for my European trip I took after college. My boyfriend love love loves Band of Brothers. We stayed with my cousin in Germany, and he would take us to all these different places, talking 4 hour + drives for the history. I highly recommend the America military cemeteries in Margarten, a location featured in band of brothers, an unsuccessful mission unfortunately, also where my great great uncle is buried, and Luxembourg, where some of the band of brothers and general Patton is buried. Margarten is amazing, the people of the Netherlands are so kind and take such amazing care of those graves, it’s crazy how years later they are still so thankful and grateful for the WWII efforts that gave them their freedoms. The one in Luxembourg has an amazing staff, Lucy was able to answer so many questions, even uncomfortable ones, with such grace and honesty. I love love hearing you talk about Europe, to reflect back on your previous episode, go to Northern Ireland, do the GOT bar hop, where each bar has a door made from a tree in the Dark Hedges, I.e. the Kings road. Ballintoy harbor is my boyfriend’s favorite place in the world and rightfully so, as it’s gorgeous, and is the setting for the iron islands, dunluths castle (I know I effed up the spelling) was used with overlaying CGI, for the iron islands castle. Plus giants causeway is close by and while not used in GOT is a must stop. See the titanic museum in Belfast, you talked about your feelings of death and the human experience in the last episode, that was the kind of feelings I had in that museum. I’ve loved these last two episodes feeling very emotional and nostalgic listening to you talk about this stuff.
I forgot to mention the Germany leg of our trip was first with my cousin for 7 days and then we stayed with a family my boyfriend did an exchange program with in Ireland after for 5!!
looking back at history, we forget that times overlap and people are involved in the movement of time. what i mean by that is, in my school we looked at ww1 and solely focused on hitler and the immediate area surrounding germany and the atrocities that took place in germany/surrounding countries. but in actuality, there were so many overlapping periods and people were involved in ways that we simply forget, or don't take off the blinders and stop having that tunnel vision. take earnest hemmingway volunteering as an ambulance driver for the red cross! another example is the cowboy/samurai timeline. it's just insane to think about everything happening all at once, and forgetting that events don't happen in a bubble, or vacuum. i love history
Your thoughts on the destruction of art really resonated with me. I recently listened to a podcast about the most prolific art thief in history Stephane Breitwieser who stole from nearly 200 museums. I won't spoil the ending, but inevitably quite a bit of it was damaged or destroyed and when I heard that I remember feeling this deep sadness for all of the talent and beauty that other people and future generations will never get to truly appreciate.
I’ve grown up in Chicago and have lived here my whole life, I’ve seen that u boat dozens of times. Even before I understood what wwii was, like as a young child, I was terrified of the submarine and had chilling feelings every time we went near it. The only time I went inside was for a school field trip and it was terrifying
this whole conversation is very relevant to how i feel about the Pale st1n1an art being destroyed right now 😞 to see their places of worship once decorated with beautiful tile work now just a shell or dust of what it once was 💔 i absolutely resonate with the heavy emotions you describe about the loss from any war
you would loveeee red dead redemption 2!!! a big side quest in the game (that i am obsessed with) is collecting cigarette cards around the map.. i loved picking them up and seeing the different art and packs
If you liked Band of Brothers, you should watch Pacific. Don’t quote me on this, but they were directed by the same person, or at least were very similarly directed. This one takes place during WWII in the pacific islands, and was just as eye opening. When I learn about WWII, it’s usually the European side, and was so interesting to finally find new information about that time. It’s on the same streaming service and also has 10 long episodes.

36:04 this fear literally plagues my life. I turned 27 and suddenly have all this anxiety about not remembering things and losing my memories. I’ve started physically journalling and got a bluetooth photo printer so I can glue in photos from my camera roll with little write ups. It was really hard to write at first but now I’m stuck in a city far away from home with no one to really talk to so i’m absolutely going OFF yapping in this journal.
HOW IS IT THAT I LEARN MORE ABOUT HISTORY FROM MISS BROSKI THAN ANY HISTORY TEACHER I EVER HAVE. Like the fact I get excited whenever I see it’s a history episode and I actually choose to listen is crazy.
my HS history teacher was the best teacher I ever had because he was an incredible story teller. I always say I wish I could sit in on one more of his classes (he’s retired)
I also don't think any single person's voice should be consistently valued over another's, but people who respect that are people I enjoy learning from. People want to listen to you because you're confident in what you have to say but it's never self-serving and you don't actively try to persuade your audience. Especially being from Texas, it's refreshing to watch your videos because you're not stubborn. You always try meet people where they're at to make sure what you're saying is understood, and that's a hard thing to do when thousands of people are paying close attention to you. I don't know if you're a patient person IRL, but you seem to be a very patient communicator and teacher online. I really believe that's why we're so willing to lock in (unbuckled, checking my lipstick in the rearview) and listen to literally anything you have to say.
Okay I have something to recommend for this WWII hyper fixation era cause I had a mini one a little while back. On Spotify you can find news reports and bulletins from WWII, and people have made playlists with 40s songs, radio ads, and news bulletins that you can listen to. I think 1940s Evening Radio is a good one, but there are plenty. It’s crazy cause it’ll go from A Zoot Suit (For My Sunday Gal) to a broadcast during the Blitz where you can hear air raid sirens in the background. Honestly chilling. But I will say that the news was so different then because it was all geared towards radio, so the imagery and language is so fascinating to listen to and does a wonderful (and sometimes scary) job of painting a picture of what was happening and how people were feeling. Also if you want you can find full playlists of just radio news bulletins, and warning, those can be pretty dark. I listened to one talking about the fall of Berlin and the reporter started talking about the discoveries of s**c*des of German officials. It was very interesting but honestly I had to turn it off for a while afterward.
tbh i wasnt trying to accomplish anything with this i was just curious. i understand why ppl expect her to talk about it, but im sure its difficult learning your friend (allegedly) slept w a minor :( hope brits doing okay
fun fact: the quote that she used in last weeks episode, 'From my rotting body, flowers shall grow and I am in them and that is eternity' IS in fact Edvard Munch, creator of 'The Scream', which is chilling in the sense that the Nazi's seized one of his pieces (Ashes II). His art was meant to serve as a piece of his "eternity" and it was stolen from the rest of humanity. Just wild dude

Okay, so I’m a teacher in the public schools and LITERALLY I want to show this at a staff meeting to inspire my colleagues to teach the way you do. Professor Broski at her best once again.
Omg you should totally do that !!

I love it.
do u have any book recs for the causes of evil? sounds super interesting!
So putting it in the perspective of I’m 19, flying planes over open ocean to get to France, my friends are dying, I don’t know if I’m seeing my parents ever again is insane.

the fact talking about explaining history or any subject in a storytelling way is so true!
I’m English and my family home was built in 1891, it has existed through both the first and second war. The house me and my boyfriend have just bought was built in 1929. Old houses are made to last. I’m not sure if other countries have this, but the houses built nowadays are brittle and most aren’t made to last as long as the ones made back in the day.
this rings very true where i live (in canada)
That U-Boat she mentioned is at The Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. I was an archive assistant there for a bit. They also have a bunch of stuff from the World’s Fair there. My favorite thing is something that wasn’t on display but was just in the basement: a treadmill for a squirrel to power a lightbulb.
Edit: I def got spooky vibes from the u-boat. I made a point to avoid that section. I don’t believe in ghosts, but I’m also not going to hang around to find out.

Love it when you talk history, it's really valuable and nice to be in a position where this knowledge is available in a calm format. History can be overwhelming but it was my favourite in class, because it argued for discussion points and perspective changes.
Large ramble incoming:
As some one who lives on the coast of England, Dunkirk was a very important story to know about, and was pretty much common knowledge.
I grew up in D.C. and can confirm the International Spy Museum is my favorite museum I’ve ever been to!!
I love when you talk history!! I can’t get enough of it. You make learning so fun and it brings the curiosity from my inner child
I wish more people knew about it
Locking in to hear Professed Broski discuss WWII history after finishing my morning 1 hour brisk walk… life is beautiful what can I say
The International Spy Museum is one of my favorite interactive museums! Literally every single exhibit has something interactive, the ww2 exhibit alone has a mission dedicated to finding 'dead drops' and finding hidden camers in time-dressed rooms while you act as an American spy. Its sick as hell and i couldn't recommend it enough.
truly such a cool museum!!!

Dude that museum is legit I need a real reason to go back to dc just so I can go again
It's extremely harrowing and surreal so be prepared, but if you're interested in learning more about that side of WW2 it's very informative and brings some realness to it rather than just being on paper.
there is one in the washinton DC area, it was very immersive- i took a junior class trip in 2019
theres an excellent one in dallas as well
The US Holocaust Memorial and Museum in DC is the best - I would definitely put the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum as the second best.

I won't spoil the ending, but inevitably quite a bit of it was damaged or destroyed and when I heard that I remember feeling this deep sadness for all of the talent and beauty that other people and future generations will never get to truly appreciate.

i agree it’s just the internalized misogyny that bothers me. i don’t think anyone has to speak up about a situation that doesn’t involve them.
GOOD MORNING FELLOW TEAMMATES!!!
32:44 like every state in the US banning books they deem as “not appropriate” for children
Watching the pod is my favorite part of my workout. Makes cardio fly by 😮💨😮💨
