PressCAPLOCK no he didn't tear it down. Philly fans be dumb. The guy who destroyed the team yo get drafts picked bad players until he was fired. Remember mcw? Ok then you got Joel who's played so many games it hurts.. okahfor was fun though now we got 2 injured centers and don't forget this man brought in Noel so actually 3. Thank God he stepped down before he didn't draft Ben Simmonds. Congrats on the 6ers being good but giving hinke all the credit is why collagalo snapped and probably ruined his career. But hey hinkes the best right just go hire him again. You know cause he still jobless. Cause no one wants him. Cause he was only good at making a team bad and acquiring injured centers.

People don’t even realize what the Process was and still is for the Sixers. Hinkie understood one thing about the NBA and past champions. You need franchise players/superstars. The national media and the NBA want you to believe that Hinkie’s plan was all about tanking and getting high lottery picks. Wrong!
Hinkie made some of the most brilliant trades ever. He obtained extra lottery picks by leveraging assets at their highest peak (MCW, Holiday) and understood that these “good” players were not going to lead them to the promise land. He also leveraged cap space to probably make one of the most lob sided trades ever with SAC to get us an unprotected 2019 1st.
Flip to the present and name me a team with a brighter future than these Sixers.
Hinkie should be commended and if you are a mediocre organization, why aren’t you giving Hinkie a call ASAP to get him in and fix your team? It’s a travesty that he is blackballed from the NBA at the moment.....

I'd wanted my NHL team to do a Sam Hinkie back in 2014, land McDavid and maybe Matthews. They didn't, but they did get other great players practically from out of nowhere.

I love the Colangelos as snakes. I think one thing left out that's important was the idea of getting undrafted and D-League players to fill out the team. These players would generally be busts (that helped get better picks), but you'd occasionally find an overlooked talented player like Robert Covington who would help the team when they needed him the most.

The process DID work. And it DOES make Hinkie look like a genius. Look at our team now...we made the playoffs as the 3 seed...broke franchise records, and analysts are picking us to at least make the Eastern Conference Finals...with some even picking us to win it all. If not this season, or even the next...a championship is coming to us within the next 3 years. This DOES make the NBA's whole cap space rules look bad and now that teams are seeing that "the process" works...we will be seeing ALOT of tanking in the years to come if the NBA doesn't address its free agency and cap space issues SOON. The Sixers went from one of the worst teams in NBA history to the hottest team in the NBA and some analysts are even imploring for Lebron to come to the Sixers next season. Sam Hinkie may have died in our battle...but he lives on as a martyr 😁.

Great video and illustrations. Sam hinke's genius was in the method employed to make his team a contender. Whether the Sixers actually become a contender remains to be seen but Sam hinke can't truly control that. An injury to embiid or Fultz not developing into an all star level talent aren't variables that can be controlled but he took what he could control and positioned this franchise to be competitive for the foreseeable future. If I was the owner of a team and a GM told me in 3 years we'd lose more games than any team in NBA history but we'd also have top draft picks for 5 year window and we'd use that to acquire top tier prospects in all those drafts I'd be skeptical but extremely excited about the prospect of acquiring that much top level talent in that short of a time period. And Sam Hinke did just that. They have a generational talent at center in Embiid, aa generational point forward in Simmons, a great 3-D guy in RoCo, a top level prospect in Fultz, and solid rotational players in Timothe, Saric, and Holmes.

Selling high on MCW is one of his best moves for sure, and he got two value depth pieces in McConnell and Covington after handing four year contracts to a bunch of scrubs.
He had no part in developing these players, and this is what's gonna decide the fate of The Process.
The good news is they have two building blocks in Simmons and Embiid along with plenty of cap flexibility to address some of their needs for now.
The Sixers were lucky that their tank was complete in less than five years, but they put themselves in the best position by adding as many assets as possible.
This pains me to type as a Celtics fan, but their Medicaid fraud just put them in a great position for the future.

There are a few things that prevent Hinkie's plan from fully working in my opinion. 1) His plan does whatever the polar opposite of creating a winning culture is. It allows players to foster bad habits. 2) Doesn't take into account how valuable veteran leadership is to young budding players. 3) Free agency. What player would want to sign with Philadelphia with the option of just about any other franchise. Every team has money now.

Not necessarily, it’s not like they were badly coached or anything. They just didn’t have talent or experience. They’re fielding a bunch of kids out there. Their coach comes from Pops tree of coaches.

We went from a 10 win team in 2015, 25 in 2016-17 to now possibly doubling our win total just one year later and going to the playoffs. Not only that but Hinkie got us the BEST center in the league in Joel Embiid and a walking triple double point guard in Ben Simmons that can lead us to multiple titles. #Hinkiedied4RSIns

LOL...The Lakers unintentionally tanked. That's called mismanagement. It's why you don't have a #1 pick this coming draft. Also, you won't make the playoffs, while the Sixers are looking like they'll lock up home-court advantage in the first round, winning about 48 games. We also have two players better than anyone you have: Embiid and Simmons. Fultz could be number three. Our designed tank > you just sucking for a long time.

It was now about noon, and darkness came over the Wells Fargo Center until three in the afternoon, for the sun stopped shining. And the floor of the center was torn in two. Hinkie called out with a loud voice, “Joel, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last. The fans, seeing what had happened, praised Sam and said, “Surely we must trust the process.” TTP 23:44-47 (credit Reddit user:JaKarrTheGoat)

Or the NBA rightly saw that if the 76ers plan worked, and Hinkie received the credit, other teams would follow it. And the NBA isn’t popular when 20 teams are trying to lose (or not doing everything they can to win) and only 4 teams have a realistic chance of winning a championship.

only reason ben simmons was drafted because of injury to joel embiid and unavailability of dario.
only reason markelle fultz got drafted because ben simmons got injured.
The INJURIES WERE PART OF THE PROCESS.
Without injuries, 76ers would had a good win percentage and would not been able to draft high.

If the 76ers can even manage getting into the finals in the next 5 years, this will change the NBA forever. And that may soon be possible with Lebron likely heading for the spurs.

2:07 - Looking back, there's no question Hinkie's process worked. But there were other good ways to get ahead. Like hiring elite scouts who can unearth hidden talent late in the draft. Developing your existing players into stars. And trying free agency anyway, by sweetening the pitch.
Like this: retain Jrue Holiday and pair him with Michael Carter Williams. Then, if they had good scouts, they could have found Nikola Jokic in the draft before the Nuggets did. Finally, they might have been able to snag Kevin Durant in free agency.
But this tank did work. It hadn't been tried before.
