What a shame he didn't live long enough to see his creations become some of the biggest names in pop entertainment. I'm sure he could have got a cameo like Walt Simonson and Ed Brubaker.

Still happening today. Artists, in all industries, games, comics, and movies are looked at as worthless replaceable employee numbers, not people. Glad to see artists going out on their own so they control their property.
The gaming industry seriously needs a union or huge overhaul of how it treats it's creators.

Comicbookgirl19 - Will never see this but your genuine appreciation and presentation of some subjects like the X-Men and Jack Kirby...is so good and true of heart it actually brings a tear to my eye and reminds me why I loved these creators and their creations so dearly as a kid. Stuff I could never explain without being laughed at by most people I've met and wouldn't dare try. They were more than fantasy, they are a living, breathing mythology. Lightning in a bottle. You totally get it. I've almost forgotten that elusive spark that ignited the soul and the imagination as an adult but just watching your videos when you talk about the things we both love stirs something in me. Exactly what Jack Kirby said, the Source. This was so damn good. You and your channel really are quite remarkable. Im too poor but want to give you money or a hug or something. I'd die for friends like you. The Dreamers. So precious few and far between.

Right on Comic Book Girl! Good retrospective. As a kid in the sixties, I loved Kirby's Marvel work and followed the Fourth World saga when that came out.

Great breakdown on the history of the King. It was Kirby that inspired me to draw and got me into comics and so forth. Hail to the King baby!
Kirby created mythology that felt like mythology. He gave us techno-mythology for a modern age in Thor, New Gods, Eternals and The Inhumans. They all had sprawling casts and were epic in scope in ways that no modern creator can match. The New Gods especially. It felt like true mythology. And no one, and I mean no one, has been able to depict raw, seething energy like Jack Kirby.
Long live the King!
Kirby was not just the most AMAZING! artist in comics (and maybe in the history of the USA) but he was also an INCREDIBLY nice guy. He often invited people (including myself and my best friend) to come see him at his house in Thousand Oaks CA. He'd say, "I'm in the phone book. Stop by anytime!"

Working a month behind your publishing date is an incredible stress. At the time of print media being the primary distribution method, this was the best way to make the most money by printing only popular titles (no internetz).
Today we have the modern convenience of instant digital distribution, allowing for more humane production timelines. This empowers creators to spend more time on art/writing and production, allowing for greater quality and diversity in the medium.

Really interesting artists surprise you with their artwork. There are people who are incredibly good and nothing else. Kirby is the absolute best most talented "bad artist" there is. At first glance his artwork is rough, ugly thick lines, ape-like poses, distorted faces, weird areas he seemingly couldn't draw right, but when you look at the image as a whole it's AMAZING, it explodes all over the page, all the ugly rough work is pure genius ... Hail King Kirby !!!

If you look at DC’s Sea Devils, that series is actually the character template for the FF, with the Challengers being a visual inspiration for the FF in their first issue.

Actually, it was Bill Everett (with Stan Lee) who created Daredevil, not Kirby.

There are reasons why he is the king of comics.
This was a really great documentary on the true Creator who made Marvel what it's known for today. While you didn't touch upon the huckster nature of Stan lee's relationship with Jack Kirby, you didn't give Stan Lee the exaggerated amount of credit that he gets for things he never had the capacity to create or even dream of so that's good.
